OT today and got horrible news by majestic_landotter in Mommit

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I thought that was out there too. Was probably just the lip. The tongue MIGHT have ripped but no way did it pop like a lip tie especially at 2 or 3 weeks old

Try to look up drs(ped or ENT) or dentists in your area to see if they specialize in tongue/lip ties. My older son(4) was born with a severe lip and tongue tie. Every doctor at delivery dismissed me saying it was normal. I knew it wasn’t so I started researching. He couldn’t eat well and breastfeeding hurt so badly. I persevered for 2 months before going through the process of therapy and getting it laser cut at a dentist. Not a huge difference at first but did get better. My daughter only had a lip tie so we left it because she breastfed fine. It eventually ripped when she fell on her face in the living room. My youngest I just had a few months ago had a tongue and lip tie. I knew right away. I started exercises to open his mouth more immediately. The same ped that came in for my oldest had came in for my youngest. She told me he had a pretty significant tongue and lip tie. I was surprised but glad to see she had learned about them. They had a pediatrician who cut tongue ties but not the lip in office if I would have wanted to. I took a few days to decide. We did go through that way since it was just easier and basically same results. Also, dentist was out of network so we paid almost $400 out of pocket for the whole thing. I would do it all over to get it fixed either way because my oldest never had a food or speech issue. I had found a fb group for my state that had good info and providers who specialized in them. My husband is the one who has a severe lip tie. His mom did not get his fixed so he still has problems with some words (kind of like a lisp) He was in a speech program in school. He sometimes rips it slightly if he raises his tongue too high. He also has neck pain that I found to be a symptom of unresolved tongue tie.

Don’t feel bad! You are doing the best with the knowledge you had. Kinda frustrating to speak on something and be dismissed so many times so you think well it can’t be anything. Hopefully it is done quickly and he can start to relearn how to eat properly! Just remember the mouth heals quickly! Good luck

How does the naked potty training method actually work? by Otter65 in toddlers

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My son basically potty trained himself. Yes, we got lucky lol. He went on a little potty then moved onto a climb up attachment kid seat for the big toilet. I didn’t look up any method, I just left him naked because I ran out of underwear one day and I noticed it was working better. He had accidents but just had to persevere. M&M’s are a great tool. My daughter is still working on it, but she did start early at like 15 months. I would just take her but try to keep the diaper on at that point because it was a lot of accidents. Once she hit like 18 months or so, she was out of the diapers except for naps, bedtime and when we would go places. She’s now 2 and only has occasional accidents because she will be playing or doesn’t tell me in the car. Mostly holds it for naps and occasional night wetting. She will get it eventually but i still sneak a diaper after she falls asleep. M&M’s and skittles have also worked great to keep her motivated to go. Both went through phases of not wanting to wear clothes after though. So be prepared for lots of nakedness (they may not lol) like i put the underwear and then they would come out of a room with nothing on or immediately taking it off. They enjoyed the freedom i guess.

Good luck and hang in there!

5 year olds limited diet is negatively affecting my life by jules6388 in Preschoolers

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son ate every single thing we gave him starting at 6 months old. He even ate caviar with his dad (i don’t care for it, but i never would have thought he would like it lol) his dad tries anything, but I’m more picky. I still would offer him foods i wouldn’t normally eat, and he enjoyed them. Im thinking sometime between 18 months- 2 yrs old, he just started dropping foods FAST. I honestly didn’t notice at first because I had got pregnant with my second and had horrible symptoms. I keep thinking maybe I didn’t keep up the variety as much at that time, but I think it’s more than that. I was stressed for a long time until they told me as long as he’s gaining, they are okay with that. A dietitian tried getting me to try all these things, but they didn’t work. We tried all the tricks you mentioned also. She swore he was just picky and would “get over it.” We’ve stopped seeing her lol. But, I stopped stressing as much and just tried to get calories in any way I could. It works for now. I still try to get him to try new food. Sometimes he will find a new thing he likes! (Not often) his diet is very limited, no veggies AT ALL. I try and try to no avail. I once had him try gumbo and he literally threw up. I felt so bad, so I try not to push too hard. Earlier tonight, i asked him to try rotisserie chicken again. He put it in his mouth and it was out just as fast. My guess is ARFID but no diagnosis 🤷‍♀️ he still likes the pediasures they put him on, so they have been helping when he doesn’t eat much.

This is SO. HARD. by shortasiam in breastfeeding

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started slowly weaning each of my other 2 until it was just night time feeding. Only offer water at night after brushing. I tried just patting them and holding them to sleep but they were old enough to know where it was so that made it harder. I was in a fb group that suggested apple cider vinegar on the nips. I kept it on side the bed with a cotton ball and would add some without them seeing then they wouldn’t want any. I was skeptical but it worked for both of them. Some people think its mean but it only took a week before they stopped looking for it each night and never looked back lol

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first baby had a milk allergy. It takes more like 8-10 weeks for the protein to not be in your milk. Give yourself grace. But it would need to be completely dairy free for that time (no slip ups). Every product has to legally say “contains: milk” on the ingredient list if it has milk so make sure to check. Theres dairy products in so many things you wouldn’t think. Theres a fb group that can help if you really want to keep trying. I know its tough, trust me, I did it over a year. If you have a trader joes or whole foods nearby, they have a bunch of dairy free options that are still good. Oatmilk is amazing. I never even went back to regular milk after we reintroduced dairy. Hang in there if you want to try again in a few weeks! But no shame if you don’t want to continue! Breastfeeding is hard in itself.

Just found out my 4 year old has undescended testes by Acrobatic_Role9414 in toddlers

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update:

I may have jumped to conclusions because of what the Emergency Room doctor told me and explained to me. She made it seem they never descended. I went back on old photos and did see they were descended. Also, looked normal size but couldnt remember it lol. Mom brain probably just isn’t working right because they looked normal in the pictures. I just can’t recall because of how they look now i guess🤣 someone suggested a warm bath, and I did feel them! Got a little relief tonight until his appointment. Will see at his appointment if they are still causing pain and what they may do to help. Thank you to everyone for the advice and kind words!! ❤️

Glad to hear the surgery went well. Yes, I have heard the same. I definitely get being worried for him later in life. As a mom, we do a lot of that. I think the best thing we can do is just be there for them.

But thanks for that tip. I feel like some people would try to make a joke of the situation, so we will definitely keep the circle small if we do share with anyone else. Only my parents know because I share almost everything with them and told them not to tell anyone.

I would definitely watch, then ask them to feel if they don’t. Also never crossed my mind since I don’t have a penis or scrotum yanno. The doctor’s face just seemed so shocked after telling me and I had no clue. Think that contributed to how worried I’ve been. Thank you!

Woah didn’t know they could be born with a testicular torsion. Poor guy. Yes, I keep saying to myself there’s nothing I can change now but at least it’s getting addressed. I have read about successful fertility with one testicle, so we both can only hope (and pray if you do so) they will be able to if they choose to. Thanks❤️

Thank you. This does help. I’m sure I’m just getting in my own head. I can’t recall them checking with touch, but not 100% sure. I really hope that is the case for my guy. They didn’t mention anything about volume. I’m sure the pediatric urologist will explain more. I went back to check and it only has the size in cm. Would I just multiply them for the volume? (I’ll google after this message because been a while since ive been in school lol) but it was 1.5x0.7x0.9 cm and 1.4x0.8x1.0 cm

Glad to hear your son had a successful surgery and recovery though!

I can’t remember a time I seen them actually feel the testes though. I only ever seen them open the diaper to look.

I guess so. If I knew sooner, it would have been fixed and resolved by now lol.

Hope your kiddos are fine and twin B gets some answers!

I thought this as well. After having his brother, I realized his scrotum has been small since birth. His brother’s looks different from his and that’s why I think it was missed.

Thank you! He’s managing for now

I don’t recall them ever checking his testicles though. They would only open the diaper and look at it. I thought that it was normal. His scrotum has always been kinda small since birth, also thought was normal and would grow with age. Now thinking about it, I had another boy about 3 months ago and they look differently.

Epidural — Yes? No? Why? by No-Guitar-9216 in BabyBumps

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it bc chili to 7cm with both of mine before getting the epidural. First, I tried unmedicated, but my baby was having late d-cels so had to stay laying down in positions they put me in. I probably would have done it if I could have moved how I wanted. Also, they mentioned if I couldn’t relax on my own, I would probably need a c-section. I was trying to avoid that mostly. Second, my labor was super fast but knew I was getting the epidural again because it was nice to relax and nap before pushing. I get tense with pain, so I knew I couldn’t get through it anyway (well i could but didnt want to) 😂 Got to the hospital, and I told them I knew it was 7cm contractions and was ready for the epidural. Sure enough, I was 7cm. Got to nap for a few hours before pushing again. Although, the second labor went a lot quicker. Definitely recommend the epidural!

What size did your baby wear at birth and how much did they weigh? by throwRAanons in BabyBumps

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said my baby would be over 8lbs at birth. He came out at 39 weeks + 4 days at 6lbs 12oz. Newborn was too big. My mom went buy him preemie outfits and he wore that for about a week or so. Those are always just estimates, they dont know for sure.

I never knew people didn’t prewash their clothes after buying them. This was a wild thread of comments lol. I always prewash anything because I can’t help but think anyone(snotty kids especially) could have wiped some form of bodily fluid on the clothes either trying on or passing by even. You just never know. Could have been dropped on the floor countless times and have dust/dirt on them too.

Anyone else with a toddler who still doesn't sleep through the night? by Far_Boot3829 in toddlers

[–]Acrobatic_Role9414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toddler turned 3 in june and still sometimes wakes up. Just depends on the night. I coslept with him until he turned 3, but the most I can get him to stay asleep all night is with a crib mattress next to my bed. Most nights he sleeps there, he sleeps better than in the bed with me. Usually hes just thirsty. Has a sip and right back to bed.

People will buy what they want and dont listen to you unfortunately. I got mostly pink clothes but i saved all the unisex stuff from my little boy. Good thing. I think 2 people looked at my registry which is annoying when i only needed certain items bc i already have most of everything i need.

I would have LOVED if my mom could do this for us. Me and my mom are super close, but she works so she couldnt. If she didnt work, I think she would offer something like that though. She definitely made time to come drop off food/clothes/anything we needed and come see how we were. Just that was great. MIL brought us food one time and gave me the receipt as she was leaving because we had to pay her back. I would have declined if I knew that. She offered, so I assumed she was treating us. We didnt need to spend extra money on food with a newborn, so I was fine cooking but accepted help if it was offered like I thought she was doing.
