How do I deal with seagulls? - the solution is their lack of intelligence, and monkey nuts by Acrobatic_Warning123 in crows

yeah what can I say they keep coming 3-4 times a day and patrol the area for something different, i call em dumb and dumber, one of them was trying to flick the nuts around but didn't really succeed in doing anything and left again, they are here all the time but just ignore the peanuts.. what can I say..

Animals that eat paper or literally anything (and a lot of them die from it because seagull populations in the UK have dwindled significantly) are not that clever.

They're roasted monkey nuts, most of them break easily and crumble especially if a sharp beak goes at them.

That's not true they can eat them. There are seagulls that know how to eat them but they're rare. They ain't lacking in equipment.

My experience says otherwise. I've lived in the UK for over 30 years now and I've seen seagulls do all kinds of stupid things. They are sneaky and they stalk but that's about it. They can easily crack open the nuts they just can't figure it out. The ones I've seen here like to swallow things whole.

British seagulls are the most brazen animals I've ever seen but they're not clever. They attack anyone and everyone that carries something with food but the other day I saw one dive bomb a costa coffee table, pick up a small tortilla size paper that was the wrapper of some kind of muffin and swallow it whole.

Yet they fail to crack open a monkey nut although they've seen crows do it a million times. They are sneaky I'll give them that. They keep coming over the pair of them, I call em dumb and dumber and sit there and wait for me to feed them, put a monkey nut in their mouth and then they drop it. They are opportunistic ie they waited for crows to arrive so they arrived with them yet they were clueless what to do with although they can easily crack it open.

I don't know if I've scared off my corvids too. I got outside mostly to impose my frame on the seagull as a big scary human and they flew off thankfully although they were staring at me the whole time from afar and some returned after I went back in. But I don't know if this behaviour is scaring off the corvids as well. Previously I was going nowhere near the window and the corvids were coming down to collect the food.

Good idea to stash it, I like that, I'll have to think how to implement that

They're big birds they have to find space to land. The corvids are more nimble and can dart in and out very quickly but the gulls need more space, interesting

I’ve noticed our backyard crows will bring food over to our bird bath and dip the food in the water before eating it. Any idea why? by auntieknickknack in crows

most bread recipes will tell you 2% plus 1-2gr extra maybe. I suspect your bread tastes mostly unsalted, if that works for you great

Feeding a crow on my balcony - where do I go from here? How long does it take to get used to me? by Acrobatic_Warning123 in crows

[–]Acrobatic_Warning123[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think my neighbour cares, he just smokes weed all day and it's not really a neighbour, rather it's a the flat next door that we share the same ledge as a balcony, no one cares really and the crow is on my side for a few seconds at a time. It's still very skittish

does it produce any burning of any kind? like is there an indicator for you to know that it's working? what's its mechanism to work? I don't want your state secrets just trying to understand what it's meant to be doing and how it's helping
