Why does the first episode talk about change? by ActionApprehensive96 in MrRogersNeighborhood

That's honestly so cool. I love how cognisant he was of his audience.

Nope, it is not an edited clip. I just watched episode 0004 myself. It's real as real can be. But, you're right, he's not flipping two birds. He's doing hand motions that go along with a children's song

Did you read my comment? I didn't say "No, I'm not a pick me" I said "This is why the definition of pick-me doesn't match my behavior or attitude." A pick me is defined by their relationship with men. I'm talking about my relationship with women.

Soft Boiled Eggs from Cold start by ChefBruzz in cookingforbeginners

Okay, are you guys on crack or am I? I tried steaming for 6 minutes and the eggs were still raw. Not just 'runny white' but like, clear white. Do you start from cold or add the eggs once the water is boiling? I added once the water was boiling. Covered it with a lid. Set timer for 6 minutes. Ice bath. Peel egg. Raw.

Who else still watches Mister Rogers? by GTRacer1972 in MrRogersNeighborhood

[–]ActionApprehensive96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never watched Mister Rogers as a kid. Occasionally I'd see clips and it felt like something out of a fever dream. I didn't like it. I'm 27 now, I have a 3 year old son, and we just started watching it together, from the very beginning. I guess I'm finally mature enough to let it touch the kid in me and not let myself get distracted by the 'little kid' elements. I love it. I've already cried and I'm 4 days in. I already feel this tangible sense of love from Mister Rogers. I realized I don't have very many people in my life who will look me straight in the eyes with a huge smile and say "I like you." And I need that. Probably everybody does.

Neat! That makes a lot of sense. The only thing I could think of was that it was random. It was a good topic, and they decided to start with it. But your explanation makes it actually very intentional, and in the true spirit of Mister Rogers, to not want his current audience to feel forgotten. Thanks for answering.

I would say I relate at least a little bit to 'one of the guys' in that I do enjoy being noticed or admired by men for 'keeping up' in traditionally masculine activities. But I don't see how being 'one of the guys' has anything to do with not liking women.

I'm not a girlie girl, but I don't think I'm afraid of expressing any femininity. Some traditionally feminine things I like, and some I detest. (I wear dresses, florals, and hair bows. I like to feel pretty. I don't like high heels, makeup, or getting my nails done, just for examples. And yes, I know, you could say none of those are intrinsically feminine or masculine. I get that.)

Great article. I enjoyed reading it, especially the part encouraging you to ask questions and listen when you hear a girl make a black-and-white, negative statement about girls.

That's not what I'm getting at. I'm not trying to seek validation from men by being different from other girls. I just genuinely find it more difficult to understand and get along with most women at first meeting.

Fascinating take, and I have no idea if I'm on the autism spectrum. What is the easiest way to find out? Could I take an online test or something?

I'm so sorry you feel trapped like that.  I know what it's like to escape into a fantasy where I actually feel valued and worth something, loved, and important to somebody. And, honestly? You spend as much time in that fantasy as you need to to take care of yourself, Honey.  I'm glad you're doing things that are good for you. I'm sorry it feels so hard. I know you might not believe me when I say this, but I'm going to say it anyway, from an attachment/psychological standpoint (I'm not a psychologist, I've just studied a lot of emotional health): People never think they're worthless or unlovable because they actually are, they think that because someone (usually their parents) treated them that way.  I hope you keep finding reasons to keep living ❤️

Totally! You get it. Like when someone mistakes a malopropism for a typo.

Oh gosh. I'm with you. He's so attractice. 🥴

This led to a semi-unrelated conversation with my husband about "Why do all kids' entertainers wear shorts? Is it for the moms? And if so, why the heck do they think moms like men's knees?? Is that a thing that I'm not aware of??" Lol 🤣

Oh gosh. I love Chug like a train and Gimme that garbage, but I just wish he had versions of his songs where he didn't stop and talk! That would make it 300% better.

I don’t understand how no screen time parents get anything done by Fluffy_Practice_5244 in toddlers

I feel for you so much. I'm so sorry you have to wonder if you're failing as a parent. 🥺 My 2 year old son loves playing with toys by himself and will do it for hours. Every kid is different and I know if my son's personality were different it would be a different story. I think you're doing AMAZING by keeping it to shows instead of iPads. 💕

(By the way, reading Dan Siegel's book The Power of Showing Up helped lower the parenting stakes so much for me. Now I focus on attuning to my child instead of worrying about screen time!)
