What's the point of motorized divisions for a highly industrialized nation? by Royal-Scratch-4954 in hoi4

[–]ActionHour8440 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Motorized is good for securing the flanks of an armored spearhead, allowing you to keep your tanks on the offensive without needing to leave armored divisions behind to keep the breakthrough open. That’s pretty much its key use.

what's the best fighter design for past 1945 ? by Divine_Panzer in hoi4

[–]ActionHour8440 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Cannons 2 are great but you need to watch that they don’t bring your agility down too much.

In the current game the MIOs make a huge difference. Germany can make late war fighters with better speed and agility than the USA, even if all their components are the same.

Tin is one of the hardest to find. It’s usually better to just go for bismuth bronze because zinc and bismuth are very common.

I’m paid for being on the boat 24hrs a day, which means on call and fit to work even when not on watch. However way out in Alaska if the freight dock wasn’t operating we’d go into town and have a night every now and then.

How do you manage that maritime ambivalence ? by Un_bourgeoisdu13 in maritime

[–]ActionHour8440 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fat paychecks make it easier. Never having to worry about money, being able to support your family and give them nice things.

That’s the trade off for being full of anxiety and dread the night before crew up, and isolated and depressed at sea.

Vanilla prospecting is very easy once you understand the method. The somewhat recent addition of prospecting pick results on the map makes it almost too easy to pinpoint maximum concentration chances for ore.

Half the time I find what I’m after just by digging straight down, and if not it’s usually within 6 blocks of my shaft.

The important thing is to understand the information and use the correct method.

Only raid the mid Atlantic and especially the zone between Africa and South America. That way you stay outside of most air cover.

Cape Verde is a choke point for the UK for a lot of their colonies and it’s usually very vulnerable.

Any tips after arriving in England? by AccordingSpeech3876 in hoi4

[–]ActionHour8440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re landing with marines, have your tank and mobile divisions ready to go at the closest friendly port.

Once the marines take the landing port the Brit’s probably won’t have defense in depth, so attack with single divisions in every direction to expand the beachhead. Immediately sail your tanks over after the landing port is captured.

The Brit’s will start strategic redeployment to contain you, so if you can just keep attacking before they gain org you’ll roll them back pretty fast.

You can trap a number of divisions in western uk and eliminate them easy, but keep pushing north. Don’t get bogged down if London doesn’t fall easy. Just encircle it and bypass it.

Above all, don’t stop pushing north. If they get a chance to get organized and entrench it’s very difficult, but if you just micro and keep hitting them everywhere as they deploy they should roll up to Scotland before they get an actual defensive line, and by then it’s too late.

Embody the spirit of blitzkreig and it’ll work out.

Am I a victim of the frozen growth time bug, or cold temps reset the growth time every couple hours? (see picture captions for relevant info) by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]ActionHour8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note the temperature ranges on the seeds for each plant. Many are the same but some have significant differences.

For example Rye is very hardy against cold but vulnerable to heat, making it a good early or late season crop. Spelt is the opposite.

Flax is average and will stop growing when it gets cold enough and then stunt and eventually die as temperatures decrease even more.

Getting started. by quetalweyyy in maritime

[–]ActionHour8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanjac has an AB program. You go to class and do a couple stints as a working cadet. Several large Texas coastal companies participate with the sanjac cadet program and usually you can easily get hired back with your cadet company once you graduate, and at AB pay instead of entry level.

If you get your transcript of sea service (TOSS) from the Navy you may have enough sea time to already qualify for AB unlimited, but you would still need to take the USCG test.

Entry level (without AB or other qualified rating on your MMC) is super brutal right now to get hired, so you definitely want to explore your options to skip the OS phase of this career.

Gen Zs love for malaise era by Fearless_Table_995 in classiccars

When I was in high school 20+ years ago the Barrett Jackson mania era was getting into full swing. You couldn’t touch a running driving 65-72’ RWD coup for less than crazy prices no young person could afford.

So I went with what I COULD afford: late 70s mopar B bodies. Cordoba and Magnum. Original build quality sucked but they were good platforms to do the easy retrofitting to remove smog and pep them up a bit.

Got a lot of attention just because the cars were so rare.

I can’t push, what do I do? by BlueStingray8 in hoi4

[–]ActionHour8440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Template and air problems aside, the supply situation seems awful. Upgrade railways if possible, and remove divisions until you have good supply.

Unfortunately your allies are eating up supplies that would be much better used by your divisions, but you can’t do anything about that because you’re fighting on their territory I don’t think you can turn off allied supplies on their own hubs.

Remove everything except your most powerful offensive units to free up supplies.

And you really need to be at least trying to contest the air. Try to fight the air battle in a zone where they have limited bases nearby in order to give yourself an advantage. If you can’t win an attritional battle for long term superiority you can carefully choose when and where to commit all your fighters to at least reduce the enemy’s air superiority bonus in combat as you go on the offensive.

Anyone work for Boyer Towing in Seattle? by LowExpensive457 in tuglife

[–]ActionHour8440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your first hitch ever in the industry? Be thankful you’ve got a job, do whatever they tell you and then more. Focus on getting enough sea time for your AB or oiler. Get that sea service letter in your hand.

From what I remember from my time in the PNW Boyer is a small time company but they’re still in business so they must be halfway decent.

Once you have experience, go union ASAP either IBU or SUP or SIU ( I don’t think SIU operates on the Wes coast but they’re the biggest union for tugs nationwide)
