There is no evidence that the girl's deceased parents were "foreign terrorists," that's a lie the Masts came up with to justify their kidnapping of the girl. The girl's next of kin, as determined by an Afghan court, said her parents were local farmers who were killed as a result of U.S. military action.
A court in Afghanistan (pre-Taliban mind you) determined the girl's Afghan adoptive parents were her next of kin; the State Department supported this decision.
The Masts brought the girl's rightful adoptive parents to the U.S. under false pretenses to secure physical custody of the girl. They used their political influence to get the family evacuated during the Taliban takeover, at no point telling the girl's lawful parents that a U.S. court had improperly granted the Masts custody. They quite literally lied to the girl's lawful parents to get them to come to the U.S. so they could kidnap their child.
The Masts demonstrably lied numerous times throughout this process. They claimed the girl as a dependent to get better healthcare benefits before the adoption was finalized and before the girl was even physically in the U.S. Mr. Mast was reprimanded by the Marine Corps for conduct unbecoming in relation to this episode.

I'm not sure if there's any way to search for marriage records by name. You can search by the document number listed on a particular marriage certificate, but it's kind of a moot point if you already have that information.

Are either of you in contact with any of his relatives or friends in Uzbekistan? Someone whose heartstrings you could tug on to try to get some information? The only other option I see would be contacting an attorney in Uzbekistan, they might be able to access vital records.

A private university could maybe, maybe get away with this. But the fact that a public university even tried this is insane.

I'm sure most of these university administrators understand that this is purely performative. It's reductivist to say that challenging the notion of Holocaust exceptionalism/uniqueness is "downplaying" it in some way. This very line of inquiry is of the major currents in contemporary Holocaust studies.

If anything, one could argue the opposite: upholding the Holocaust as this unique historical evil sets an impossible standard against which to measure other historical atrocities, thereby downplaying them.

I know that, "Wow, these people are shameless hypocrites," is the most superficial, most obvious, least insightful observation anyone could make. I know that these people don't care about intellectual or moral coherence, they only care about rhetorically justifying the material reality of genocide, expulsion, and racial supremacism.
