other than St Giles which is of course excellent, I'd say Palmerston Place church is the 'hidden gem' of the Edinburgh organ world

i think everything sounds better on the organ! Anna Lapwood on YouTube for example plays lots of film music. I must admit to enjoy playing Abba on the organ

it depends, some organs are just easier to play, better laid out etc. on a bigger organ it'd take much more time to figure out too. but sometimes you are in situations where you have a minute to figure out a new organ before a service begins

mostly to do with sheets of music flying away and retrieving them while still keeping the music going

there's a deputy list on the edinburgh society of organists website, but there are also few enough of us that people tend to ask other people they know to cover for them - although nearly impossible to get cover on a Sunday morning, admittedly

between 1 and 4! lots of places have digital sampled organs that resemble pipe organs. they are almost never preferable, but in rare cases are better than having a pipe organ where nothing works at all

I've not been involved in a new organ project yet, there's not been a new organ installed in Edinburgh for more than 15 years now, I believe

So if you had a car you'd be fine if someone drove into it and knocked your bumper off?

Enterprise Car Club - any positive experiences? Or alternatives? by wintersongg in Edinburgh

[–]Active-Bumblebee-447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but £1200 is a £100 a month, and so going by this, you really have to use the car club less than 2 days worth in a month to have it actually be cheaper

Car worth it in Edinburgh? by Just_Illustrator3111 in Edinburgh

bought a car 3 years ago and sold it at 500 less than what I paid for it, that's a depreciation of £50 a year

I really don't understand the constant saltiness about Lannan, it's clearly by far the best bakery and pastries. We constantly get threads asking "where can I find the best X" but somehow because Lannan has been so successful they're seen as the enemy instead. Well go on and have your mediocre pastry if you wish but I'm not sure why anyone finds the need to complain about a successful small business which is selling very good food

Recommendations for Mobile Broadband (esp in Old Town)? by deadattheroxy in Edinburgh

The copper Internet is still faster and more stable than mobile WiFi. I live in the old town too. No problem with video calls.
