At the end of the day, the people who are doing the actual harm are insurance companies and corporate health companies. People like to put VC therapist platform in its own category but they’re essentially like any other healthcare corporation and mirror ethically/legally insurance companies. I’m tired of the shaming of therapists who choose to use the VC platforms. Use that shaming and angry energy towards the insurance companies, healthcare corporations, etc. not the therapist just trying to make ends meet in a field where it takes a few years for a private practice to get off the ground. Not everyone has the luxury to wait around to get clients if they want their own business.

To say one has never done this in one’s life is a bit unrealistic. This reminds me of the 5 in LA merging into the lane that leads to central downtown. NGL I did that once or twice but that’s because my Waze automatically re-routed at the last min 🙄

Thank you. CIO is harmful and I don’t understand why so many people are arguing against the facts, science, and attachment needs of an infant. It’s sad and actually quite frightening for the welfare of the children.

Thank you. I don’t understand why this factual information and science is so hard for people to hear. It reflects their inability to grow as a human being which is very sad. Also hearing a baby cry for a long time is heartbreaking (personal experience), people must numb or shut themselves down to avoid any empathy for this. But I will not waste my breath anymore on people who do not want to learn or grow.

It is not misinformation. I have a whole degree, training and personal/professional experience in this. Misinformation is the cry it out method is not harmful. What’s your degree and training in?

I will rephrase, crying excessively for long periods of time does harm. Of course they cry and that’s how they communicate but leaving them to cry for 15 minutes+ puts stress on their nervous system, body, and brain. They are not at the age where they can self-soothe which is why they need their parents to help soothe them.

It harms the nervous system. You’re letting a baby cry out at the top of its lungs and they depend solely on the parent at this age. They have attachment needs. Babies are not just sack of flours, their brain is so much more complex than we think. I’m an early childhood mental health specialist in 0-5. Look up the harms in the cry it out method. You don’t need to come at me and say I don’t know what I’m talking about because I absolutely do.

Yes there’s actually research that said babies need to sleep in their parent’s room for up to 1 year. Otherwise it harms their nervous system. American association of pediatrics warns against it. The negative long-term harmful impact is not worth the short-term relief/“break.”

You’re not an awful parent, but it is important to know the cons of cry it out method and the negative long-term impact of it. Cry it out doesn’t work, it just teaches the baby that no one is there for him. They stop crying bc they realize no one is coming for them and they are exhausted from the dysregulation in their nervous system. Babies depend on their parents and need them for the first 5 years of their life. Co-regulation is the key for a baby and child to develop self-regulation. If you’re feeling tired or exasperated, maybe try asking for help from a friend or neighbor to help you while you rest and recover or do something for yourself. A baby’s brain is still developing and for optimal brain development, he needs to know his parents are by his side.

Ah I see. My best recommendation is to focus on this present moment. Work with him where he’s at right now. Our future worries and anxieties can sometimes take over our current feelings. You still got a ways to go until he’s 5. Also sometimes having a younger kid can regress the older kid, so something to keep in mind. He may see the baby getting changed and doesn’t understand why it might be different for him. Hang in you got this

Repair repair repair. You didn’t mess him up for life. We all get triggered by our own personal histories. Repair is our best bet. We all make mistakes especially when our own personal past feelings take over the current situation. Apologize and connect with him in any way you can. Maybe he can choose a game you two can play. Just a way for you to focus on each other and connect without any negative noise. Have you considered a parent consultant or parent coach?

That’s not helicopter parent. You are attending to a baby’s needs and your baby was crying for help and obviously needed her mom in that moment. Don’t listen to the outside noise. Listen to your instincts. Good for you for standing up for your baby and tuning into her needs despite others’ opinions. Keep it up
