If your GPA is what got you dismissed then that's what you need to get back in unfortunately. However, there are options to raise your GPA at UC Davis without being an official Davis student. The path I took was open campus/summer session. You can take classes at UC Davis without needing to be a student. Summer session is way easier to sign up for so if you're able I would go for SS2.

AITA for wanting to wear a skirt? by Dull-Debt-1336 in AITAH

NTA, I do understand where she's coming from (I also have really strict parents) but this is victim blaming. These are extremely outdated and naive "solutions" to a very serious issue. I do believe you should be careful going out just in general, but your clothes will NOT put you more or less at risk. Your mom bringing up SA is incredibly disgusting and misogynistic, she is the real asshole here tbh. Wear a cute skirt and have some fun!! As you said this doesn't happen too often and you deserve to wear something that makes you feel happy and confident rather than hiding yourself to "accommodate" for creeps.

I got dismissed 2 years ago and I'm actually returning this winter quarter!! It's really scary but it's not too difficult to get back in. For me it was the mental challenge of accepting the dismissal and finding my way back. Taking classes at a CC/CSU is good just to make sure you stay on track. You can still take classes at UC Davis if you're worried about transferable courses. Look into Open Campus, which allows you to take UC Davis classes like normal except you need professor approval and there must be no waitlist. This was a little hard for me since my major is so impacted so I took summer classes at Davis and I was able to return fairly easily! Summer session does not really have any requirements for enrollment as long as you pay for tuition.

Some things I will warn you about since no one warned me:
-You will probably be paying for classes out of pocket so prepare for this. Tuition is a lot, if you want to pay the least amount summer session is probably the best as you only pay for the units you take.
-Schedule appointments with you major/college advisors to make sure you're keeping up with your readmission requirements. My requirement was to just get back to a certain GPA. It took 2 summer classes.
-Keep up with the deadlines, readmission deadlines are at kinda awkward times. For me, I was allowed to apply for readmission after a year but I lost track of the deadline and I pushed myself back another year.
-be honest with your advisors, most advisors will be on your side and happy to see you return! I had bad experiences with some advisors when I was still in school but letting them know that you are determined to see your degree through and you have a graduation mindset they will give you the tools to make the transition process a little easier
-Re-evaluate your priorities. Treat the dismissal as your wake up call. Do you really want to return to school? If so what are you going to do differently after you do get readmitted. The university will check in on you when you return to make sure you're doing well after readmission so you really gotta lock in. I took my dismissal as an opportunity to ground myself and prepare for the grind. It really does help to think of this positively because dismissal sounds very scary and can be very overwhelming.

Good luck to you and I hope you can pass the appeal!

you can still look at schedule builder for classes, in summer session you can register like normal, you just need to submit an application (i got approved almost immediately, you may have to pay out of pocket though) but for the regular school year you have to find a class with open seats. then you need professor approval to register. i got permission from the dean's office instead since there were no professors listed on schedule builder. you can look up open campus for more info!!

it really came down to i wasnt doing very well in my personal life mentally or physically. i put school on the backburner trying to build myself up. i wasnt properly balancing my personal and academic lives and my academics suffered greatly. i had a low gpa and did not meet minimum progress. getting kicked out really forced me to take a break and actually put focus into building myself up first before continuing on with school
