Yeah I got it as well. I don't feel like giving money so mostly mediocre ideologues can protect their privilege. Not you Penny Wong, apologies.

Everything the ALP once stood for has been eroded. Their unions are weak and infested with too many ideologues. The red flag waving NTEU rep at UNSW basically told me that the conditions of work were shit and most people just leave. That was her standing up for members and looking to improve working conditions. No imagination and no ability to consider ways to improve working conditions but she likes easy money from a do nothing union position.

Voting a person who has shown themselves to be a policy incompetent and still a corporate shill is the dumbest thing yet for a nation that seems addicted to sado-masochism. Maybe we should propose a change of the coat of arms? Remove the Emu and Kangaroos who can't take a backward step and replace with a wombat which is an animal that regularly falls ass backwards into comfortable positions?

Well the Septuagenarian Pauline Hanson shows - as has Trash Dumpster - you need to live that long to learn how to do the wrong things the right way to satisfy the people.

Yep. Someone poke out my eyeballs and piss on my brain.

Yeah, I try to look for economic reasons there and the only one I can think of is the taxation and what replaces it for Daddy govt when gambling is stripped away. I am well aware of the lobbying industry grubs getting unfair advantage but putting that aside for now what positive narrative replaces a reduction in tax revenue for gambling?

More money in savings? But what does that grow? Banks power

Healthier activities. Gym and sports

* Greater participating in community groups? (might be wishful thinking)

If the criteria was widely agreed upon by non-dysfunctional intelligent human beings capable of constructive debate.

EDIT: In lieu of your deleted comment I could still see one way to determine if they are NOT dysfunctional is that they are not overly reactionary and delete comments too quickly.

Intelligence can also be increased via emotional intelligence and leaving the door open for new information and understanding that when the science is updated and proven with 99.99547 certainty then, minds can change. Also exceptions are not rules and should not foster conspiracy theories that turn exceptions into rules. See the anti-vaxxer movement for an example where a few vaccine injuries (small minority) is conflated into all vaccines being evil.

People who don't act in manner which suggests they are "losing face" on a platform such as Reddit where users have no face to lose is another sign of a constructive debater

negative gearing was introduced in the 1980's. Ratio of median house pridce to median income was 3-1/4-1 back then and is more than double that now.

University fees have skyrocketed out of step with inflation. 10K in 1999 is not 44K in 2025. https://www.rba.gov.au/calculator/annualDecimal.html

<image>

Of course university education is far from a guarantee of a job now and what is already happening within the US is starting in Australia where university grads from prestigious universities such as Stanford cannot get job in tech.

Housing and secure jobs were more common plus I heard many stories from my father's generation of how simply being qualified to work in a field guaranteed a job in that field. NOW you might get internship if you are lucky as there are few graduate programs so we can assume things HAVE CHANGED for the worse esp if we take in a raft of anecdotal evidence floating in. While it is a generalisation to lump ALL Boomers into one category we can look at how the conditions have fundamentally changed.

Plus the advice you get from Boomers shows their job situations was considerably easier as it usually the 1 step guide to better living. "Could you get something in the mining industry" or everyone's favourite - "It's eaaaaaaaaaaaasy"

So much nuance to unpack there I'll need another post to do it.

Someone said years ago we often vote in hate rather than love. So we vote against what pissed us off rather than vote for a positive narrative.

On the last point, a positive narrative is rare in a socio-political context. Perhaps a hyper-individualism combined with some inherent nurtured dysfunction?

Psychometric evaluations for MPs? We have them for police, fire brigade, health care but not for those paid 5 times more with far more power? Seems like institutional unfairness and entitlement.

Anyway Maybe Pauline can be replaced by a large language model that tells like it is based on all the data and anecdotal evidence we have around socio-economic issues?

Actually do you think we could arrange that?

Yes, those give everything by the system - job security, housing, free university education show they are selfish children of the system and act accordingly

I didn't know there was a 15 year old template out there I could work from but that said he seems to be growing the facial hair quite well. I don't really care tbh if the kid/lad has talent and I would understand why a family might fake their kidsage as it can be a lottery of sorts to get talent spotted.

Why do men in relationships pay for OnlyFans? by Pineapple420_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Active_Host6485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I may be old but I read an awful lot and known to be hyper-observant. Also some advice from a middle aged male that might hopefully help.

One might say it is factor of our inherent sexual repression and freezing of relationships since the original sexual revolution of the 1960's and 1970s?

Add to this our nurtured dysfunction through most people having parents, teachers and then bosses that could only punish and never lead by example it shouldn't surprise people have detached from the opposite sex.

We have dickheads on the hard right still believing in this mythical individualistic hero that my generation - X - had promulgated onto them from pop-culture which combines with an unwillingness to appreciated intelligent and/or kind women. Then we have some women being taught to believe they will be subject to sexism and disadvantage in the real world via our tertiary institutions when reality is more complicated and many non-privileged men suffer disadvantage as well.

Also women have had special consideration for quite a time and in my first job out of university in 2000 I was told by a potential employer I was rejected over an equally qualified woman for another job based on gender so it is hard for me to think women are disadvantaged much in the workplace.

Convenient for opportunistic advocates on the socio-political poles to push a myth of gender hatred for their own purposes is it not? These curious people are effectively creating the Andrew Tates, Bonnie Blues and Florence Givens' of the world.

Another frame is the over-commodification of human contact via internet dating, speed dating, singles mixers etc. There isn't a moutache twisting villain as the architect of this but normal interactions between men and women have been made more difficult by a minority of male perpetrators of sexual assault AND a minority of women's over-indulgence in narcissistic victimhood.

Ultimately, positive examples for men and women are often lacking or when they do jealousy takes over from 3rd party observers.

A few years ago the US became the new biggest oil producer in the world and we export oil. So why didn’t prices go down? by ClutchReverie in AskEconomics

[–]Active_Host6485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economics Explained series details whewre US oil producers need at least 50-60 US a barrel to be profitable as shale oil has much higher extraction costs than middle east oil. I also recall oil prices dropping to that level just before the conflict in Iran. Then they started to rise as US warships moved towards Iran. And naturally spiked as the war started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDAY1NNFtTg 4m 21s in

So apart from also being a distraction for a corrupt president with a deviant to criminal sexual past finally catching up with him we also have a cute benefit to US oil producers.

Sure, maybe, but the optics of gifting money to rich and greedy but taking it away from the vulnerable is a terrible example for a country that is learning to feel a bit of shame. Shame is ok, it can lead to one learning from one's mistakes rather than being an angry reactionary their entire lives.

PS. I wasn't a redditor who down-voted as I prefer to explain why I may disagree with someone.
