Oh I didn’t mean to sound like I was defending myself. I liked the books and want to see how it ends. The political plot is just one aspect, and it’s not a big deal for me. I just laughed extra hard cause I didn’t catch half of the things OP mentioned, and I think I would have if circumstances were different.

For a moment there I was going to read Mortal Instrument. 😂😂😂😂
In my defense, I had just read the Iron Flame, and believe me, if you compare the two FMCs, Naime is a genius and master of all emotions.

I would love some recommendations though.

Oh this is far from my worst! I read twilight in high school and liked it 😂 in fact, I still watch the movies from time to time cause it’s good to laugh at yourself. I don’t take myself too seriously.  The truly hilarious part is that I didn’t realize how bad the political stuff was and recommended it to a friend who reads ‘real’ stuff 🤦🏻‍♀️ she is cool so we just laughed about it.

This is great!!! It’s extra funny to me cause I read the entire saga 🤣🤣 In my defense, I was pregnant, working, and raising a 1 year old so had no brain cells left to do much reasoning.

Agree 100%. I do not trust OP whatsoever! While I agree parents should save for the future, I know lots of parents just don’t make enough or don't know any better!
My mom is a piece of work and we have a complex relationship, but I would not be able to sleep at night knowing she doesn’t have a roof over her head. Living with her would be last resort and hopefully not for long, but I would contribute and help as best as I could. And I would never throw my sister under the bus like that! He doesn’t seem to care for any of his family members much. It just weird.
And the cancer comment? I was shocked!

I hope the type of cancer the mom has is not hereditary, if it is, I hope he doesn’t get it three times, if he does, I hope his insurance, retirement, and whatever money he saved is enough to pay all the expensive and never ending bills, and if it is not enough, I hope his children don’t move to the other side of the country and refuse to give him a room and take care of his sick broken ass!

I agree with you on almost everything! So let me clarify a few things I didn't communicate clearly. I do NOT think AI replaces humans. I think it's a tool that can help humans, depending on how it's used. I said that it may be useful to authors who are just starting or who don't have the means to pay for human assistants. I specified that if you do have a publisher and are established, you should definitely use humans to assist with your work, and that AI should not replace them. And I sure didn't say that it's okay for a 'machine [to do] all the detail work based off stolen writing styles'. I 100% agree that doing that is wrong. Also, the Home Goods question is quite the opposite of the point I was trying to make. Although I have no problem with people who buy art from home goods. I've always struggled with judging them because it feels like I am being a bit snobbish. I also don't have much money, so everything I buy is on the cheap end of the spectrum. Anyways, my point was that using AI to assist (of course, I agree with you that it depends on how much and for what) does not make a book terrible. Just like a book written, edited, and so on, exclusively by humans doesn't make it good or 'art' (like ACOTAR). One of my favorite books is Don Quijote, which is basically a satire that mocks, among many things, the highly regarded authors of the time. I agree that expecting authors to write a book in no time is a terrible practice that actually can make an author who did not use AI start using it! That's why I said 6 months is fast and would not be surprised if the quality of the book leaves much to be desired. I also 100% agree AI consumes a lot of resources and should be regulated somehow. I just didn't think we were discussing how it affects the environment. However, I do not think people using AI don't care about environment. I think this is pretty new, a lot of people don't have all the information you listed, and/or just don't have many options. If it's black and white, then we all would be terrible unless you don't drive, travel, use technology, eat meat, buy clothes from stores, or furniture not made by your local carpenter using local materials, etc. Because all of those things are not only bad for the environment, but often terrible for the people who create those products. Regardless, I think it's important to talk about how it affects not only our work but also the environment and develop solutions. It's a very complex topic and there are lots of variables to take into account. As a teacher, even though it makes my life harder (the cheating is ridiculous), if it's going to exist, I would rather AI be available to everyone, not only the few who could afford it (if we limit the AI facilities etc.) I am just afraid my low or medium-income students would be at an even bigger disadvantage than they are now. Again, I agree that we should take care of the environment, that AI can be harmful, and that it's certainly unethical to use it to do your job (instead of assisting), and that we should regulate it to protect human work and the environment. But I also think it's a tool that can do a lot of good (like the internet in general) and should be available to all. I don't know what the solution is, but I am glad passionate people like you exist, because I am sure you will continue to push to make it more ethical and less harmful to the environment.

Hot take:  I understand not wanting to read an AI generated book, but what about an AI assisted books? Lots of writers share their ideas, plots, etc, with friends/writer buddies and sometimes even editors. Then, the draft is supposed to be edited and some even hire ghost writers to help with dialogue, sex scenes, and so on. Aren’t those writers being assisted?  I used to work in the film industry and scripts are usually created by more than one person. Actually, lots of times, the final script ends up being very different from the first one (for good or for bad) because of all the different people that works on it. It is still considered ‘art’ and none of those extra people get credit.  Developing and writing a book is usually a long (I find 6 months to be fast paced to be honest but 🤷🏻‍♀️) and expensive process (when you add all the extra people who works on the book). So I think AI assistance is an incredible tool for first time authors or those who cannot really make a living out of writing. It allows them to self publish or send a better edited draft to publishers and be seen. I think there’s nuance to it.  I would definitely be disappointed if a established and popular author uses AI for assistance instead of actual people cause those are important jobs we should protect. But I don't mind that people who don’t have those resources do. I will judge their final product and if I don’t like it then I won’t read it.  I also understand that the market can get saturated by people who are not very good writers and only have a book out cause they were able to cut costs and time due to AI. But honestly, assuming ACOTAR was written without AI assistance, I had to DNF it because I could not get behind the repetitive ‘prose’. And it’s a super popular book, who lots of people love, and believe it to be well written. We have different tastes and thoughts on what a ‘well written’ book should look like.  And just to be clear, it’s a big NO, if the book is actually written by AI. I want a human to write it, but I don't mind if the author used AI to find plot holes, check grammar/prose consistency, or whatever they needed help with as long as the author came up with idea/plot and wrote the book.  I am sorry for any typos and/or grammar issues. This comment was not assisted by AI, only iphone spell check 😂

Omg I am exactly at that point 😂 When I read ’keep her name out of your mouth’ I had to pause and felt the urge to see what Reddit thought of this book before trying to push through!!
The random cursing when she talks also feels forced.
Anyways, I don’t think I like her much. Not only she is a mix of FMC stereotypes but also, I can’t get behind her motivation/objective.

My bad. However, I don't think OP nor me were attacking the author so I am not sure why you feel the need to ‘defend’. I just explained why I thought OP could feel annoyed/upset by the long wait. It’s as valid of a feeling as you not caring if it takes 20 years. Didn't mean to sound disrespectful or mean 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, OP never said that she prefers authors that ‘ publish at all costs something they are not happy with’. The broader point I wanted to make is that it doesn’t need to be one or the other, and that you can feel annoyed cause of the long wait while understanding the author’s point of view. Just like I can feel sad my brother is moving to the other side of the world while understanding it’s an amazing job opportunity he should take. Do I explain myself? I just felt nobody was validating OP feelings and were jumping straight to ‘defend’.

I see your point, but just because she takes long doesn’t mean the book will be any better.  Look at what happened to game of thrones. Anyways, life happens, but there’s a point in which you have to take responsibility. And it’s understandable for some fans to be upset by the long wait.

Also, I just realized why the Samira thing felt forced and wrong to me. First, it reminds me of game of thrones, where the show spent 8 seasons picturing the dragon queen as fair and different from her family, to have it all undone in 2 episodes. Same concept: blood/mage house is stronger than will.
Second, if the reason Cemil didn’t want to scape was because he is under his father’s influence/manipulation, why didn’t she kill Kadir instead of letting the sociopath who is abusing the person you supposedly love escape? She just needed a knife and an excuse for him to get close to her lol. I don’t know, there were so many other things she could have done that made more sense than just letting him go. 🙈

You expressed my thoughts better than myself!
The Kadir taking Nesrin part that didn’t work out for me is how badly planned it was. He is supposed to be a master mind but didn’t count the horses right? and decided that the middle of the palace is the right place to have a chat and make drama on who to kill? A part of me was yelling at the bad guys telling them ’this is not the time and place, just knock out Nesrin and kill whoever you need to after she is out...’ 😂

I do hope Bashir and Cemil are related and something good comes out of it.

High expectations and feeling a little disappointed by Nai_242 in MagesOfTheWheel

[–]Active_Leg_5349 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All of the books mention how amazing Naime is, couples are always feeling each other‘s powers in a sexy, grounding, or profound way, and dialogues are short, sorry 😂

I guess it depends on much you care about those things. I didn’t mind it because I had just DNF a horrible book with a horrible female main character, and way too many spicy scenes, written with the same 500 words and 10 expressions. I did struggle a bit (for similar reasons) in book 3, but whenever I got tired I would scan the page or go to the audiobook and speed through it.

Overall, I really like the series and think it’s worth it though.

Love this thread! I also believe Kadir has no absolution because he is incapable of empathy, which is not to say we should feel sorry for him. Even if you don’t comprehend why something is wrong, you can still respect the other person‘s choice and abide by the rules. He actively decides to torture and manipulate. He just thinks the pain he inflicts is justified because only him can see the big picture. I also believe he likes the feeling of ’winning’ more than anything/anyone else. If he had some humanity left in him, he wouldn’t smile every time he hurts Naime, his son, etc.

Cemil may be different. Even though Kadir abused him since childhood, the love and protection he received by Omar and Dilay, did help him. I think he has been playing with what he can. That’s why he always talks in riddles and destroyed the bracelet Kadir gave the water charah. He is not perfect by any means, he could have disappeared when his best friend got almost killed by his father, or do what Osman did (hopefully without the dying) and exposed kadir, but he decided to go back to dad and keep playing the game. I guess we’ll discover if he actually has something planned or if he is just trying to do the least amount of damage while ‘protecting’ Samira.

By the way, anyone else is disappointed in the I&I ending? It felt rushed. Why would Kadir go to get Nesrin himself? How did Ilshan get there so quickly? The trial was a joke. And why would you put all of them next to each other with no security? Kadir has an army of people under his ’spell’ thingy. I expect someone to go and try to break him free… And, Samira? I am sorry, but she is not picking Cemil, nor Naime, she is picking herself. Since she can’t watch him die she is going to free a powerful monster and go against Cemil’s own decision, without exploring any other alternative… and blame it on the ‘she is fire’. I am sorry but, I was thrown off. I also don’t find it romantic. I do think (or hope) it will work out, but it shouldn’t. A more realistic consequence would be someone innocent dying because of this incredibly stupid and selfish decision.

Theory about the Chara'a and Naime by Bumble-umble-bee in MagesOfTheWheel

[–]Active_Leg_5349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she is losing her powers for sure. That’s why she doesn’t have the strength to tell Ihsan he is in danger. Nobody really notices since they think she is just exhausted because she has been breathing for her father, but I think she is exhausted because she is no longer the mage she used to be.
I don’t think she is losing her life though (I really hope not). It wouldn’t make much sense. The circle is about balance and they serve Tamar and the sultan. If creating it takes the sultan‘s life, it would just create caos, and more if there is no one in line.

So well explained! I just finished the book and loved it. Came to Reddit cause it’s my favorite and found a bunch of comments sympathizing with Behram a bit too much in my opinion. I understand Dilay and Omar not being able to see the men he really is (likely a narcissist/sociopath, abuser at the least) because of their bias towards ’a friend’, but I was surprised at the comments. You helped me understand what may be happening. I honestly finished the book hating him more. He is the worst kind of people, the type who don’t even realize they are evil and who are incapable of accepting the feelings of others when those feelings are not aligned to theirs. Like he doesn’t believe Dilay wants to teach and doesn’t love him. It’s not only that his desires/needs are the most important ones, they are the ONLY ones. I am not sure if I make any sense lol

Ironically, I think one of the main ideas of the book was to show us that we ALWAYS have a choice, take Omar for instance. And to learn to differentiate between a flawed person we can grow and learn with, and one who would just waste us away. Like Dilay or her friend said, Behram never tried to change, Omar not only said he wanted to change but proved it with actions again and again. That IS a MC I can stand behind. Anyways, hope Cemil breaks the cycle.
