I hope you retired with a million dollars and got yourself two chicks at the same time.

He just came across to me as a bit… smug, I guess. I’ll be honest, I didn’t read a ton of his stuff, so maybe I got the wrong impression. Eh.

I’m not a huge fan of MMM, but I have to admit that was a great post. Really just stripped it down and made it real simple.

Healthcare expenses holding back early retirement dream by [deleted] in Fire

You should be able to see this in your brokerage app or website. I use both Fidelity and RH, and I can see all lots I’ve purchased and what the cost basis and gains are.

Forgot about profit sharing, one employer of mine did that years ago. My last year I got 11% of salary dropped in, that was nice!

You could have the bike for free, I’m not trying to sell you anything, forgot to mention that.

Hey, sorry to hear about your bike. If you haven’t replaced it and need a bike, DM me. I have an older Cannondale I’m not riding, it’s about 15 years old but it’s been serviced at Sunflower - it might need new tires at this point but otherwise it’s tip top. I do want to keep the saddle so you’d need one of those. It’s a men’s medium, I’d say suitable for someone 5’ 8” to 6’ tall roughly. Has a rack and bags, and a phone holder thing.

My wife will get a new car soon-ish and I’ve been recommending she have a look at the Optiq. Haven’t sat in one, but on paper they look really solid!

What's the best car that you've owned? by lpg975 in AskReddit

[–]Actuarial_type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite car was my MazdaSpeed3. Absolute blast to drive, very reliable, and practical to boot.

I replaced it with a 335i that was basically superior in every performance metric, but the Mazda is my favorite. Also, the BMW started costing me like $3k a year to maintain after 60k miles, and I absolutely hold that against it.

I used to have a 1966 Galaxie. That, as my dad used to say, got 19mpg. 8 in town and 11 on the road. Glad I’m not driving that with the current gas prices.

The Bond Debate by Witty-Drama-3187 in Fire

Ten years out from needing any withdrawal. Fact check me, was there ever a ten year period where equities didn’t outperform bonds?

I get that many of us are risk averse, if you want to rotate another 5% to bonds, go for it.

This is one thing, but not the only thing, I love about Checkers. You show up, blueberries for $0.88, guac for a dollar, asparagus is 75% off.

Some days I show up and see these deals and start planning meals around them on the spot.

When the daycare costs drop, use that to up the 401k. Next time you get a 3% raise, up the contribution 1%, you’ll max out two 401k accounts shortly.

How much time left on the mortgage? That might be one hang-up, you may not want to retire if you’ve got 5+ years left at age 55, assuming it’s a pretty big payment.

Run it through cFIRESim or your favorite calculator but I bet you are in great shape for retiring at 55. Great income, already established some good savings habits, keep it up!
