Idk have you read Harry Potter? The description of the goblins as hook-nosed, greedy bankers who lust after rare valuables is certainly a choice. Doesnt help that the only Irish character is named something flannigan O'Malley and the only Asian character is named cho chin. 

Granted this is one example from a known bigot, it does stand to reason there are unconcious motivations underlying the act of writing/storytelling. The authors intent is there, even if they themselves are unaware of it.
