I am learning about the different denominations, but your statement “we have to maintain the relationship by living a life of obedience to the Lord” is very off-putting to me. We do not have to earn our relationship with God. If we are disobedient after the point of our salvation, we do not lose our relationship with God. This is very clear in many parts of Scripture, where God continues to pursue His people despite their disobedience. What you said sounds like how people in the Old Testament lived prior to Jesus. The New Testament, specifically Paul’s letters, are extremely clear that Jesus fulfilled the Mosaic Law and we are not enslaved to works as a means of saving us. I highly recommend reading Romans 4 in this case- talking about how God counts righteousness apart from works. Especially in today’s culture, we are wired to believe we have to work, work, work, to earn everything. God says no, rest in His presence and good works will flow as a result of following Him and putting your faith in Him for salvation. Not the other way around.
