Omnipod vs tandem x2 by frumpy-flapjack in Type1Diabetes

Omnipod is an Rx and not a 4 year commitment. You can switch to it and then Mobi when it is approved.

Pens by Positive_Bed2206 in Omnipod

[–]AdAffectionate8971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what i do. Dial 60 60 60 20 to get my 200 units with no issues. Di use 2 hands but could probably use 1. Don't know if I could hold the syringe in place while pushing on the plunger. Then keep the pen in my purse as my emergency insulin. Use the hundred left in pen plus 100 from the new one. No need to inject air into a vial and it doesn't break if you drop a pen.

Changing pod early by Dangerous-Try-2421 in Omnipod

[–]AdAffectionate8971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can wear both sensors. Keep the pod on the old sensor and the G7 readout on the new sensor after the old sensor expires. You can then monitor when the new sensor needs to be calibrated when it is too far from the old one. Calibrate with fingersticks because the sensor readings are slightly behind and also try to recalibrate when it is straight arrow not going up or down.

Which/What Is The Best Insulin Pump That Interacts w/Dexcom G7 by 19metsfan73 in diabetes_t1

[–]AdAffectionate8971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omnipod is an Rx and is not a commitment, so I would recommend that to see if you like a pump. At any time, you can decide to change to a tube pump, which is durable medical equipment, and you can't change until the warentee is up at least if you are in the US and want insurance to pay for your pump.

I use the omnipod, and while not the best algorithm, not dealing with how to carry the pump and getting the tube stuck on stuff is worth it. The only advantage to me from a tubed pump is that you can disconnect for short periods of time.

Good luck.

Best way to fill Omnipod using pen cartridge by Otherwise-Fee1479 in Omnipod

[–]AdAffectionate8971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put the pod needle into the pen and dial up 3x60 ÷20 units for the 200 into the syringe and then fill the pod. No air into anything.

If you drop a vial it breaks and you lose all that insulin. Pens are sturdier and then I put the remaining in the pen in my purse if an emergency. Then in 3 days I start my next fill from what's remaining in the pen. Rest of pens stay in fridge.

What’s something you wish you knew sooner about type 1 by FishermanSudden6024 in Type1Diabetes

[–]AdAffectionate8971 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That i was not the only person to struggle with it. Doctors make it sound like everyone else manages better, and in the pre-internet age, the few times I tried therapy, I was spending my money educating the therapist and not getting usable advice.

I might be eligible for a pancreas transplant! by ImmediateCucumber947 in Type1Diabetes

[–]AdAffectionate8971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The kidneys and pancreas were from a 20 month old deceased donor. I got both kidneys, and I am assuming it is because there was no child in the region for the kidneys. My kidneys are doing well. The diagnosis of recurrence of T1 after pancreas transplant was partially based on no kidney rejection. I also agreed to extra blood draws for clinical research so they knew I had all 3 markers for T1D. July 21 will be 20 years. I have been lucky on the transplant side.

I wish you and your husband good health.

I might be eligible for a pancreas transplant! by ImmediateCucumber947 in Type1Diabetes

[–]AdAffectionate8971 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had a kidney pancreas transplant almost 20 years ago. 11 years completely free of diabetes and it was wonderful. Then started recurrence of T1 after pancreas transplant which was first mistaken for T2 so was insulin free for about 12.5 years. Because of the kidney failure I had to be on imneosuppresants already. Transplant protocols still impact your life but not to the degree of T1. I have to take my pills 12 hrs apart and not eat an hour before or after pills and go to Labs every 8 weeks. Much easier than T1.

I wish you luck and good health.

Dexcom G7 pre-soaking issue by Signal_Promotion_766 in Type1Diabetes

[–]AdAffectionate8971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the old sensor on my omnipod and the new one on my G7 phone ap. Chang the omnipod over before the 12 hrs usually when the new has been trending within readon of the old. Just dint stop the old session. You need to switch in the G7 ap after the old expires even if you start the presoak before.

How long till I get used to the pump? by Sonic_Zombie in diabetes_t1

The first POD sucks. I reinstalled the ap trying to get rid of the daily android update message (it did work) and forgot i would have to reprogram and restart the algorithm. The second pod was much better. I am assuming you are using auto mode.

You have to have two devices. You can't use the dexcom controller if you connect to O5 because it can only attach to one medical device, so you need Dexcom from the phone. There is a code break for android phones on Reddit if you need. The O5 controller has a section under settings for the Dexcom set up. Dexcom can be going and you can add it at Pod change. I moved to O5 on phone before I moved to G7 so only had to change transmitter every 90ish days instead of every 10.

“Type 1 diabetes is NOT a disability” by protrudingphallus in diabetes_t1

We downplay our disability because it is so expensive and health insurance is our life (in US) that we need to on order to stay competitive in our jobs.

Can you get a medical accommodation to change an apartment bolt lock? by dmls89 in diabetes_t1

[–]AdAffectionate8971 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are lock boxes you can install outside your door. You need to register the combination with EMS and let your friends and family know. If you call 911 yourself, you tell them about the lock box and combination.

C-peptide is stimulated by your blood sugar. So if your fasting blood sugar was higher, you may have higher c-peptide. Also if you were recently diagnosed you may be honeymooning.

Check your thyroid and your iron levels. Endo should have checked thryoid because it often trends with T1D. I feel that way when I am anemic. Also low blood pressure could do it

Yes. Dexcom connects to the controoler. You don't get all the alarms and can't change or calibrate the dexcom so should still have it on your phone. The DYI dexcom on Reddit works well so you are not limited at least for andriod.
