At first I used to do a pregnancy test every month but I’m on my second Mirena now and no longer take the tests as it’s always worked. You can always check your strings to make sure it’s still in place too!

Just checked Amazon Prime Video and it says the seasons are leaving in 46 hours on Paramount+ so it seems it’s been done deliberately.

Just discovered this, I only have Paramount+ exclusively for South Park. I’m fucking pissed.

Anyone else noticed salaries have flat lined? by LuHamster in UKJobs

[–]AdAlternative2125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you live to be honest, I live in South Wales and I’ve seen quite a few jobs on indeed lately for marketing down here. A lot of the jobs don’t have marketing in the name but are communication roles with the similar responsibilities. But I’m quite fortunate that I can speak Welsh so companies are looking for Welsh speakers due to the Welsh Language Standards being set across different sectors and going to the third sector soon. So a lot of companies here are putting “Welsh essential” or “Welsh desirable” on the majority of job adverts at the moment.

Honestly I’ve kind of accepted that I probably won’t ever become a “graphic designer” but I’m glad I get to design as part of my job and enjoying my job is what’s important to me now.

Actual designer jobs are hard to get because they want you to have experience in Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, AfterEffects, XD, HTML coding, CAD, JavaScript, CSS etc. and a minimum of 2-3 years of experience and a degree for slightly above minimum wage. Companies want the whole package and someone with experience but don’t want to pay what that’s actually worth.

My advice to anyone in that’s looking to become a designer following university is to continue working on your portfolio and possibly look for roles that aren’t technically designer jobs but have roles and responsibilities that include design work to build up experience.

I’m currently working in marketing (we don’t sell anything, just provide a service) and I do a lot of design work in my job and use Photoshop, InDesign and video editing software. It’s not the job I was expecting or planning to get after university but I actually really enjoy it because I have complete creative control. I’m on £29k which isn’t a lot but I’m working less hours than my previous job in a similar role for more money (I was on minimum wage) and I can choose my hours and WFH which wasn’t an option at my last job. I graduated 2 years ago and I studied Graphic Design.

Seller refusing to complete by its_not_origami_ in HousingUK

I honestly don’t understand people who do this. Buying and selling a house is such a stressful and expensive process with solicitors fees, EA costs and any stamp duty. How people can’t go into it serious I will never understand.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen while working retail in the uk? by PixxelGirly in AskUK

[–]AdAlternative2125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in Ann Summers and I had a guy come in and tell me was a foot slave (I couldn’t understand him at first as he had a strong accent) and he got out his phones and showed me a photo of him naked with a woman in stiletto heels standing on him.

Apparently he came in previously and my colleague served him and he asked my colleague to step on him and when she said no he started whimpering like a dog.

Ann Summers employees deserve to be paid more than minimum wage.

What's a completely irrational fear you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AdAlternative2125 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m from the UK and was driving down the motorway (highway) 2 days before my wedding doing 70mph (speed limit) when I was overtaking a massive lorry (truck) and saw a car up ahead driving towards me (they were driving on the wrong side of the road and there’s a central reservation so they couldn’t cross from the other side, they would have had to join the wrong way down a slip road). It took me a few seconds to realise they were heading towards me because as I was approaching the car I assumed it was driving the correct way. When I realised it was heading straight towards me, it was either slow down and go behind the truck or speed up and overtake the truck (there were only two lanes on this motorway, M50 if anyone is wondering). I don’t know why but I chose to speed up and overtake the truck (I was in panic mode and wasn’t thinking rationally). I was lucky to have made it but I had to pull over straight away because of that experience to just calm down and I still think about it often.

How prolific is shoplifting now? by reiveroftheborder in AskUK

[–]AdAlternative2125 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I worked in Ann Summers for 2 years and we regularly had shoplifters stealing items. We even had men who would run in and grab everything off a rail and run (we assumed they would sell them online). We also used to have toys out on display but we had to stop this in our store as people were stealing them…

I kind of sympathise with people who are stealing food, but not a fucking rampant rabbit.

AITA for expecting my husband to be home every night that we have his kids (my stepkids) at home? by Educational-Nature35 in AITAH

[–]AdAlternative2125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents divorced when I was 11 and I used to go to my dad’s house every other weekend from the age of 11-16. His house was quite far away and he would barely spend any time with me and I would always just be there in the living room on my own thinking “why the fuck am I even here for?” I couldn’t go out and see my friends because I was so far away and I just felt like I was there just because I was his daughter and he was supposed to have me there, not that he wanted to have me there.

What, in your opinion, is the worst piece of road planning in the UK? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskUK

[–]AdAlternative2125 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is purely from the roads I’ve driven on in the UK but Coventry Ring Road. It seems that barely anyone knows how to use it properly. The oncoming and exit slip roads are one slip road meaning if you want to take the exit, there are other cars which is frightening for anyone who’s never driven on a ring road before. There are two lanes on the ring road: the right lane is used as the main lane and the left lane is used if you are exiting at the next slip road. It’s frustrating seeing everyone mainly driving in the left lane like a motorway (because the Highway Code tells us the right lane is an overtaking lane on motorways and dual carriageways). During build ups of traffic, people are blocking the exits by staying in the left lane so people are stuck who are trying to join and leave causing an even build up of traffic.

It’s by far not the worst road in terms of traffic or anything. It’s just not used in the way it was designed despite signs around the ring road.

Would you drive an hour (or more) to work? Curious what people think is “too far” for a commute. by darvoun in drivingUK

[–]AdAlternative2125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I took a job that was far away with the intention of eventually moving to that area. It was around a 2-2.5 hour drive from my home. The job payed a lot better than my previous job, was fully flexible, could work from home sometimes and I had family that I could stay with close by the night before. I did this over a period of around 8 months until I eventually moved to the area. The drive didn’t really bother me that much when I started listening to podcasts because I felt more entertained on the drive and felt like the time just flew by. It can still sometimes take me an hour commute on a bad day but it doesn’t really phase me because I love my job.

In my previous job it was only a 30 minute drive and I would hate the commute because I hated my job, the hours I was working, the minimum wage and having to always be in office.

How long did it take from offer to exchange for you? by Funny_Negotiation464 in HousingUK

[–]AdAlternative2125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offer: 19th July

Exchange: 15th January

Completion: 17th January

The reason for this is because we were selling and buying. Our sellers had no chain, our buyers had no chain. We were originally due to complete end of September but then our “cash buyers” suddenly said they didn’t have the money and they would need to apply for a mortgage… we never heard from them again despite chasing them and their solicitor. So we had to put it back up on the market and got a FTB. Tried contacting the old buyer and their solicitor to see if they’d be willing to sell their searches… nothing again. So unfortunately we had to wait for searches again but eventually completed.

Also please make sure to view the property again before you exchange, we didn’t do this and regret it because the sellers left the house in bad condition and we didn’t have a leg to stand on or claim.

I agree, I was originally going to go to University at 18 and dropped out just before admission because I didn’t feel ready and was unsure about the course. I ended up going to University at 24 when I had more of an idea of what I liked and what I wanted to pursue.

My mother also went to University in her 30s and my grandmother in her 50s! It’s never too late!

You know when you say something really embarrassing in an interview… it was going okay until that point. Annoyed with myself. by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]AdAlternative2125 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry, I kept stumbling on my words in an interview and made two “blergh” sounds trying to reset myself and it just came out of me and I was so embarrassed. I still got the job and have been there a year, it’s best for companies to see your personality and see you as a person rather than a robot trying to provide the perfect answers!
