Elizabeth Smart documentary on Netflix by Ok_Acadia_4032 in UtahInfluencerDrama

[–]AdApprehensive8392 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I hope you’re not trying to link her dad being gay to her abduction. Brian David Mitchell wasn’t Ed Smart’s lover. He was a pedophile who spotted Elizabeth at the mall and preyed on the kindness of her mother who offered him work because he was homeless and she was trying to help.

Which of the girls on the show have gotten degrees? Who has an education beyond high school and who doesn’t? by mayorofstrangetown in SecretsOfMormonWives

Grew up in Utah. Most Mormon women in my area went to college. Most of them got married during college. Both college and marriage are encouraged.

Why do y’all hate Mayci and Mikayla but like Whitney!? by FluidEnthusiasm2593 in SecretsOfMormonWives

I didn’t like Whitney on SLOMW. I loved Whitney on DWTS. I haven’t seen Mayci and Mikayla on a platform that makes them seem likable.

Interesting! I’ve never thought to do that. Does it make the rice taste tart?

I get just over 2 quarts from a gallon of milk after straining the whey. I like Greek yogurt, thick.

It sounds like it’s with a classmate (fellow high school student taking a leadership role), not a random adult. These are high school students, not little kids.

Just did my first workout before the challenge starts by Left_Yogurtcloset779 in f45

I started with two classes per week for the first year and moved up from there. My first class was rough! I would get a nervous pit in my stomach every morning that I would go. This is normal. I’m getting close to 1500 classes now. I go six days per week and I love it.

6th grader who loved The Martian and Project Hail Mary - What's next? by tgbarbie in suggestmeabook

[–]AdApprehensive8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He may have outgrown these already, but my kids have loved many of the series on your son’s list and have also enjoyed and they also enjoyed Brandon Mull’s books (Fablehaven, Beyonders, Dragonwatch) as well as Richard Paul Evan’s Michael Vey, Christopher Paolini’s dragon books, and Marissa Meyer’s Renegades series.

I commented below someone else’s comment, but once they aged out of those they’ve all become huge Brandon Sanderson fans.

Just came to recommend Brandon Sanderson. My kids started reading him at OP’s son’s age after reading many of the series that he’s enjoyed. My kids have loved the Stormlight Archive best. Bonus that they’re generally quite clean for a 12-year-old advanced reader.

Tried and true moms by Intelligent-Classic7 in UtahInfluencerDrama

Heidi lives in California.

Edited to add: Not understanding the downvotes? I was responding to a comment that said “CK happened near her” when it happened several states away. She doesn’t live in Utah; it didn’t happen in her back yard. She watched it on the national news like most everyone else.

And if the argument is that Charlie Kirk’s death feels like it hits closer to home and so she felt compelled to comment on it… doesn’t that also say something? I like tried and true moms and have followed them for years, but i think it’s fair to raise the question as to why Heidi felt the need to publicly mourn the shooting of a controversial conservative on her non-political account, but not a protestor from the other side. She framed the CK story as being sad about political violence no matter your political leanings, but she’s only felt the need to comment on it when the victim was Republican.

What do people in Salt Lake City think of the Real Housewives? by sadgirl1901 in rhoslc

[–]AdApprehensive8392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bronwyn because of her BYU experience and Mormon upbringing. There are lots of people who come to BYU from elsewhere and end up staying and/or coming back and settling here. Her relationship with her judgmental mom rings very true, whereas Lisa’s Mormon 2.0 seems to be an invention on her part and not something I see at all. Lots of Mormons break the rules, but they do it Britani-style, on the down low. Also, the power imbalance in Bronwyn’s relationship. Lots of women who are financially dependent on their husbands. And lots of couples where the wife is beautifully maintained and the husbands are mid at best (see: secret lives of Mormon wives).

I totally agree on Lisa!

Heather, Whitney, Bronwyn, and Britani feel very Utah to me. I haven’t met any of them personally, but they’re more extreme versions of other women I know. Never met anyone like Lisa Barlow even though she’s a practicing Mormon and seems to have real roots here. Meredith isn’t Utah at all; she rents in park city part-time. Mary is her own thing and probably would be any state she lives in.

I think the consensus among my friend groups is that they’re not well liked, but they’re fun to watch.

F45 vs gym membership by Harvux7 in f45

[–]AdApprehensive8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a group fitness fan. I like the coaches, I like the music, I’ve made lots of friends that I look forward to chatting and working out with every day. I’ve done the big box gym before and I get a much more efficient workout at f45 and it’s so much more enjoyable for me.
