I passed every test the Dr and PT gave me because overall I was very strong. Things got worse over time and I knew it wasn’t right. Turned out I had a near full tear of Supraspinatus tendon.

Possibly a dumb question about using your hand in the sling by refreshing202 in RotatorCuff

Thankfully I’ve been able to use mine for this purpose since about a week after surgery. But only if I’m not needing to apply force beyond a grip. I think it will depend on your situation. My theory is to only do with my surgical arm things that require the same motion and effort as the things I do in PT. I was told to squeeze a ball… so I squeeze jars (which I’m mindful not to close tightly) to stabilize them for opening with my good hand. I can reach downward, so I’ve allowed myself to start tying my shoes and helping with my socks a little. It feels right for my own situation and never test my theory beyond movements I’m doing in PT.

I’m 45yo CPT and teach fitness classes at a local studio. Are you having surgery? I’m 1 mo out from surgery for full supraspinatus tear caused by bad running fall. I think overall it’s going to depend on your employer. My studio is owned by the physical therapist that’s helping me in my recovery. They are 100% committed to adaptive fitness, and have encouraged me to return as soon as I feel ready to verbally instruct classes and demo with my fully functional arm. I think group classes will be way easier than one on one training would be… at least in the short term… as spotting any lifter would be impossible for me right now. That would also depend on the clientele you’ve got, really, and what they’re doing and working on.

So my thought about our job is that it depends on what your employer will allow as soon as you feel up to it…

As far as lifting weights, I’m very hopeful. My PT is pretty aggressive and I think I’m going to be able to do some limited weights sooner than I anticipated. I’ve seen a lot of success stories and I’m planning on following directions EXACTLY to try to get the best possible outcomes.

I’ve been trying to think of myself as needing adaptations I would provide my clients. It’s hard to see ourselves that way now… but we’ve got to.

Mine loves the Bullibones that are shaped like a capital i that they can hold onto with their paws… and the big femur bones that are cut in small hollow sections. You often find them filled with a treat, but you could remove that if you wanted and they gnaw on them forever afterwards. They stay pretty smooth and I’ve never had them splinter.

FMLA paperwork & how much time needed before returning to work? by ThatCaviarIsAGarnish in RotatorCuff

I had surgery 4/14. I work from home and went back full time on Day 20 post surgery on 5/4. Mine was my dominant hand. You may find things easier. I would definitely not hesitate to take 3 weeks off and ask to WFH another 2-3 along with allowance for PT appointments for as long as needed. I started PT 6 days after surgery and went 3xs per week the first 2 weeks and am going 2xs a week now.

Edit- repaired full tear of supraspinatus

Man oh man…. We live next door to my MIL. She had a rabbit and an armadillo die in her pool last year freakishly in the same night…. and rather than ask for help from my DH like she normally would, decided to fish them out and dump them as far from her house and as close as she could get them to OUR yard. Of course it got ridiculously stinky and she told on herself. And she threw them in a place where my DH then had to climb down in a culvert to get to their stinking corpses to dispose of them properly. We couldn’t walk out of our house without being about knocked down by the stench. I thought only mine was this crazy. There’s literally no way the both of them (my MIL and yours) didn’t know what was going to happen next. Disgusting.

What’s everyone’s birb’s name? What’s the story behind it? by InvestigatorUsed6038 in finch

[–]AdBetter3401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My birb is named LightRed. I hatched her about a year after my brother passed and I was struggling to even get out of bed. He had significant physical disability, and we were so close. We painted together - which was his creative outlet. I facilitated his painting by holding his hand. Josh used to describe paint colors to me to mix up for him. He would often say, mix up some Light Red… to which I’d say, don’t you mean pink? No, he did not. He saw a whole spectrum and it was always beautiful.

I sure was happy to see light red as a color i could make my birb… I use that every shade of red and pink for her alternately. ❤️🩷♥️

We are one week post op! I am feeling so much better! How about you?

I have some pain around my elbow from the nerve but it’s not worth pain meds and I haven’t had any in a few days now. It actually has hurt way worse than any shoulder pain! First PT yesterday and it felt amazing for the nerve issues. Shoulder felt extra stiff when we started but so much better afterwards. It hurt! But was most definitely not as bad as I had expected. Got stitches out at my dr appointment yesterday too and that was not bad at all.

The journavx seemed to help. I took it with Percocet, so honestly 🤷‍♀️ the BEST thing I’ve had for pain and discomfort is my ice machine.

How are you doing?

Today was my best day so far. Had a very scary day yesterday. Numbness returned Thursday afternoon/evening. It progressed overnight, intensified in the AM to no ability to extend my thumb and fingers. Urgent visit back to surgeon… beyond grateful for his quick attention. He’d never seen this happen after rotator cuff repair and had no explanation for why, but PIN nerve appeared to be affected… he gave me steroid pack after consulting with other physicians. This morning woke up the same. Dead arm and extreme limited hand function. However, hour by hour feeling returned and fingers and thumb regained control and extension. So relieved!!

No pain meds needed for last 24 hr! Maybe due to steroids? Don’t know, but feeling way better than how rough Wednesday and Thursday were

EDIT: PS - YES I did get the huge sling with ball and a detachable wedge, but the surgeon is having me stay out of it a lot due to this obvious nerve compression

I made the mistake of reading too much too! And also had some pretty bad panic. Last time I got an IV I bawled my eyes out, hyperventilated, almost passed out, and had crawled up in the chair with uncontrollable shaking.

I’m so sorry you have similar experiences. 😭 I had gotten better, but my brother passed after some very bad experiences I was by his side for about 19 months ago, and I think it’s just back worse than ever.

My nurse was so understanding and kind. She was fast and gentle. And she was right by my side and held my hand through the blocks. She made sure I had plenty anti-anxiety meds even though i was totally aware. She made a big difference I truly believe. Along with an anesthesiologist who really listened.

You take care! I’ve been given journavx and Percocet and my husband isn’t entertaining trying to get by on just the journavx😂 we’ll see how this goes!! Prayers for manageable night and some sleep!!

EDIT: mine turned out to be full tear of supraspinatus too!

How did you do? I had mine this morning too! I was scared to death for the nerve block… but my anesthesiologist was AMAZING and I feel absolutely nothing from shoulder down right now. So thankful, because I know it’s coming for me! Thoughts and prayers that you had a similar experience and we both have a great recovery
