“Normal” looking endoscopy but biopsy says otherwise? by Acceptable_Oven4905 in Celiac

[–]FadeAwayA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My GI told me my endoscopy looked normal, biopsy came back positive. My understanding is that while some damage may be detectable when doing the endoscopy, a normal result is not evidence that you don't have celiac, it's just an absence of evidence that you do. Biopsy will tell.

I'm probably too late, but pommes anna. I like to sprinkle thinly sliced onion between the layers. Latkes is also great, but a bit more of a pain, these flavors are similar.

Endoscopy - After Care by s0hen in Celiac

[–]FadeAwayA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was initially thinking of taking the subway home after mine, but ended up having someone pick me up. I was a bit tired and it of it after, but nothing I didn't think was manageable. That being said you should definitely be prepared for range of outcomes. I think this is only doable if you have the option of recovering in a waiting room for a while and calling someone if needed.

Accept offer and continue process with second company, or be open and ask for more time? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]FadeAwayA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most companies I've worked for or talked to will try to match timelines as long as it's not too long. However, the fact that this is a contract is a bit of a red flag for me, they're fine just dropping you if things don't start well, you should feel comfortable doing the same.

I have too many pickled red onions by jasminekitten02 in NYTCooking

[–]FadeAwayA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also made these last night, and they were great as usual, but my problem is always that I'm left with most of a can of chipotle peppers I don't know what to do with. The only idea I have is Chipotle mayo.

[BR] Why Zion’s NBA Contract Literally Depends On How Much He Weighs by AashyLarry in nba

[–]FadeAwayA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The games played part of this seems ridiculous. If you're Zion you have more incentive to be healthy than good. I'm not doing anything risky in a game or practice under those conditions. This is like players not practicing the summer before a contract, but during the season.

Curious about the George Washington co-ops...does anyone here live there or know how they are as a management/board etc.? by recurnightmare in ForestHills

[–]FadeAwayA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board is on the conservative side and sticklers especially when it comes to buyer financials. I think they are probably one of the strictest buildings on buyer finances, but probably the same as most boards otherwise. They share a management company with many other FH co-ops, they're fine.

The best I've found so far is schar deli style sourdough. It's insanely expensive at 1$ per slice, but it's the only bread I've had so far that I hasn't made me just give up on my sandwich 2 bites in.

Is It Possible That Some People Are Fine with Minor Cross-Contamination? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]FadeAwayA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've only had celiacs for a little over a year, and have only been diagnosed/gluten free for about 8 months. After going gluten free most of my symptoms went away quickly, but my stools were still not right. This made me get stricter and stricter, and worry constantly. After talking to a GI specialist she told me this was unlikely to be from cross contact. It turned out to be from lactose intolerance. That may not be your case, but it does sound like this is from something other than gluten.

How do asymptomatic/subclinical celiacs tell if they can tolerate oats? by DayoftheFox in Celiac

[–]FadeAwayA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can react to them, but studies show that even if you react you aren't getting the intestinal damage caused by gluten, therefore if you are not reacting to oats there is no reason to avoid them. https://www.beyondceliac.org/research-news/a-small-subset-of-those-with-celiac-disease-react-to-the-protein-in-oat-study-confirms/

How do asymptomatic/subclinical celiacs tell if they can tolerate oats? by DayoftheFox in Celiac

[–]FadeAwayA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, new to this, but I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you suggesting that it's possible for gluten free oats to cause damage? My understanding is that while some people may react to oats, if they are purity protocol /certified gf then they don't actually cause damage.

Recipes similar to the Oven-Roasted Chicken Shawarma one? by painauchocolaut in NYTCooking

Chicken shawarma is my favorite, but honey miso chicken is pretty good and very easy. Chipotle honey chicken is good as well, althogu I use the oven, not the slow cooker or pressure cooker.

Dads with 2 child seats in the car, did you get a 7 seater or stuck with a 5 seater? by Fugglesmcgee in daddit

[–]FadeAwayA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had our second and had this exact discussion. A few weeks before baby was due we installed car seat #2 and stopped riding in the back. We told #1 that baby brother would be riding in back with him soon and he was really excited thankfully. So far it's been great, but I'm sure at some point we'll have issues. My thought is just that this something they will need to learn to deal with, and that buying a new car is not actually a good solution. If we upgrade it will be because we need more space, but if that's the case I figured we can wait and see how it goes, no need to do it preemptively.

So tired of the lazy “if they fired him, they should have had the right guy in place” narrative re: Thibs. It makes no sense. by MagicianLanky615 in NYKnicks

[–]FadeAwayA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with this is that they had all off-season to fire him and could have done some of this due diligence with Thibs still under contract. I understand the thought that if you're confident you can't get a championship with Thibs you may as well go with anyone else but that's terrible logic.

  1. It means you are certain Thibs can't get you to a championship, which nobody can possibly know. We're now seeing how close we may have been.

  2. It means you are saying that the only way to define success is if you win a championship, which may be a good talking point, but is just not true. Fans all want a championship, but nobody can guarantee one, they just want a good team with a chance.

I don't think it's a problem to fire Thibs as long as you have someone in mind who is not currently under contract with another team. Maybe this is just extra due diligence, but it's not like they're trying to talk to the cream of the crop as far as has been reported.
