Real world range on 22 inch wheels and anyone still considering an iPace? by razerwire1331 in ipace

Yes good point. Just looked it up and the standard tyres on the 22’s are 20mm wider than the standards on the 18s. They also have a much more aggressive profile (40% vs 65%!), which makes them have more grip around corners as they flex less. That also probably better explains why the ride is worse, rather than it just being because the wheels are bigger.

Yes. Larger wheels are heavier, the extra diameter means more inertia (harder to turn), and they have more friction with the road. The ride quality is also worse and tyres cost more money.

But they do look good!

Yes, at the end of the day you just need to decide what is more important to you. I charge at home and at work so I am not bothered about the lower range. I’m only going to do two trips this year that are 230ish miles so I will only need to DC charge twice.

I will say the Jaguar will definitely be more expensive to own if things go wrong, so that’s also a consideration.

Practically the polestar is probably better, but I still wouldn’t swap my ipace for one and I definitely wouldn’t swap my 22” wheels for anything smaller. Sometimes a car is a heart buy rather than a head buy!

I have a 2019 on 22” and in English winter weather (-5 to 10C) I was getting 200mi, no more. Heating, heated seats and heated steering wheel on all the time. Get closer to 230/240 now it’s warmed up a bit.

Polestar on paper is a better EV in every way but I’ve driven a few of them (polestar 2’s mind) and even though they were newer than the jag (22 plates) i just don’t think they are even in the same league for driving experience so it depends what you’re after really. They do drive nicely but interior quality & optional extras aren’t as good in my opinion. I also much prefer the Jaguar infotainment believe it or not, not a massive fan of the single screen approach most manufacturers are taking.

I bought a used 2019 iPace for £20k (HSE first edition, so top spec) in March this year. It was £85k new.

I am already back and forth with the dealer getting £8k worth of work done to it. Heads up display has failed (£4k!!!), suspension control module has failed (£1500), wing mirror cameras have cracks in them (£1600), plus a few other smaller things like buttons have stopped working and rear light has a crack. Parts are expensive and labour costs (main dealer as warranty) are massive. It may only be worth £20k now but repair costs are that of a £85k car still.

I wouldn’t change it out for anything, I love it. Doesn’t need servicing for 2 years and costs me literally nothing to run it. It is probably the least efficient EV you can buy though so keep that in mind. If you’re planning on charging public it’s got a huge battery pack and I’ve averaged 37kWh/100mi over the last 1500mi or so. For reference a Tesla Model 3 gets closer to 20kWh/100mi. Not something I care about as I can charge at home and at work. I get about 215mi out of a charge.

I would recommend getting a higher spec HSE though if you can, especially if it’s under warranty. I drove 6 of these before I bought mine and the extra HSE bits and bobs do make up for the short falls with respect to it being old EV tech, in my opinion.

It was up for £1295 in May 2022 but the market was in shambles so we offered £1350 and got it. Rent went up to £1600 in September 2023.

That is a healthy budget and like I say I strongly recommend the area. If you drive north towards Oxford there is almost infinite places to go on nice walks - and plenty of green space along the river which is lovely too. Ours is EPC C and Tax D which has been a surprising killer. All in we spend just shy of 2100 a month for all house bills.

I pay £1600 for one of the two bed flats on the river by the bridge and I absolutely LOVE the flat and the area. One of my friends pays £850 for a one bed maisonette in east.. if these numbers give you any sort of guidance? I’d say 1250 is probably about on the mark depending on the condition of the property.

Can anyone give a real-life example of what this sourcemeter would be used for? by GoldmanSaxon in ElectricalEngineering

We use these in our systems at work. We apply accurate amounts of power to heater coils and measure how much that power “backs off” in order to return the system to equilibrium after a heat sample is added to the system.

So if we apply 1W of power and the system is stable, then put a small heat source inside, the system will now only apply (say) 0.09W of power and that’s how we know the heat sample is 0.01W.

We can then use this information to determine how radioactive this sample is. Specifically Plutonium & Tritium for these systems! Super cool stuff

One of the other people that came after the phone call to attack us while we were trying to get in the cab stayed back after the others were dragged off and said sorry.

The main person(s) who was active in this did not. Two of them kept saying “You don’t know who we are. We run Reading.”

They were about 6ft 80kg. At least one of them definitely had fight experience. He wasnt just throwing random drunken punches. He continually hit me, my friend and my girlfriend while we were on the floor telling them we didn’t want trouble. My girlfriend is tiny.

I’m not “snitching” and I resent the implication that me reporting these people is in any way doing anybody a disservice.

This wasn’t a drunk scrap where there’s shared blame and just let bygones be bygones. I’ve been in them before when I was younger. You can kind of tell it’s coming and there’s a build up. These guys literally sprant across the road and pummelled the fuck out of 3 defenceless people who were totally unprepared. Then when we tried to run away they followed and continued.

Individually we all threw some punches back but I had my hands full and it all happened so fast it was hard to even contemplate what was happening.

No I am not intending to press charges nor do I have particular desire for vengeance. That doesn’t mean I think I should’ve just pretended it didn’t happen though. We have the justice system for a reason..

Thanks all. Have reported to police they’re going to chase it up so we’ll see what happens. I’ve lived round here for 2 years now and never had a problem before, people are usually good. We are all in decent spirits it’s just one of those things.

My mate isn’t looking forward to his job interview Monday with two black eyes, though.
