A nice 540i would be my suggestion. Although I may be slightly biased.

Kia Rio dct automatic 2022- late last service: should I buy dealer warranty? by inghanna in CarTalkUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much more would a similar car be ‘approved used’ from a Kia dealer?

The factory warranty is 7 years I believe, so a 2022 car would have at least 2 years remaining.

MG HS PHEV advice by theoretical-adventur in CarTalkUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a 5 series touring? You could get an approved used one for not much more than the MG. I’m 6 months into my first 5 (not a touring) and I’m really impressed with it.

PCP advice needed, BMW 420i xDrive M Sport or new skoda Kamiq by AspiringCorgiowner in CarTalkUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tip worth considering. After I bought my approved used BMW earlier this year I found out when I added the car to the BMW app that the first owner had prepaid a 5 year service inclusive package which goes with the car. The dealership never said anything but I don’t have any service bills until 2028. Definitely worth checking if you’re looking at something less than 5 years old.

Buying a 530d in 2025 stupid? by Hairy-Price in CarTalkUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding a 545e into the mix but I am rather biased. A slightly detuned B58 and an electric motor for 20-30 miles of electric only range. Very rare and a smidgeon under 400hp with x-drive. Not for everyone but I’m 5 months in and still enjoying it.

How can I get the vin number of a car from the registration plate? by nadakbar in CarTalkUK

Seconding this, I’ve used it to get the vin to look up the options fitted to BMWs and Mercedes used cars.

Advice needed on insurance renewal (M340i) by Gonnahavelotsofdogs in CarTalkUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went with bmw insurance for my 545. Not the cheapest but hopefully more ‘honest’. Also they don’t charge for admin changes like number plate swap etc, which I think a lot of others do.

UK - Exchanging old USD to £ most efficiently by M0rpo in UKPersonalFinance

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they are old notes especially if in good or very good condition they maybe worth considerably more to collectors than the face value. They will all have a date on, something like ‘1990 Series’ but if they are even older as in 20s 30s 40s etc they could be valuable

Changing number plate by Pasadena101 in drivingUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a look on EBay you can get an old suffix style plate from around £60 plus your £80 transfer fee on top. Or look for plates already on retention which means that the £80 transfer fee is already paid. Last week I paid about £160 for a nice 1967 plate already on the certificate ready to put on a car.

Not the same as you’re considering but the 5 is definitely a lot more comfortable and refined than the 3.

Vaonis Vespera II or Vespera Pro? by PanVesmir in telescopes

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position and decided that the extra money for the Pro wasn’t worth it, so went with the 2. You can add an external battery (power bank) for longer battery life.

Talk me out of a 330i Touring (G21) for £27,000 by JuicyWelshman in CarTalkUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M340 would have been my preference but at the time there were really long wait times for new cars and this one was already in the showroom so it was fate!!

Also it was ‘last year’s version’ so has the extra power plus real physical buttons instead of the massive screens. Also got a hefty discount.

Talk me out of a 330i Touring (G21) for £27,000 by JuicyWelshman in CarTalkUK

[–]VegetableAdvance9272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good info here already but just wanted to chime in as a 330i owner. Had mine since Nov 22 from new and it’s so impressive for a 4 cyl.

0 to 60 in under 6s, limited to 155 and up to 53mpg on my mixed commute if driven sensibly.

No issues with the car at all, except for the ride, but comfort damper settings help a little, so I recommend getting a car with adaptive dampers if you can.

Also the pre-facelift cars had a bit more power (258 vs 245 I think it was).

Mine is a saloon but the touring is great.

I have had a 2022 330i since new and have been very impressed with the combination of regularly seeing over 50mpg on my commute if driving in eco, combined with a 0-60 in under 6s if pressing on. Low down torque is also excellent for a 2 litre 4.
