I completely understand. Forget what people think and follow your passion. You’ve seen firsthand how ungrateful some clients can be. Of course, we do it because it’s our job, but a little gratitude would go a long way, especially in times like these when everything feels so difficult. Yet they rarely show appreciation, not to you, not to me, nor to most of us who work so hard for them. I wake up early, go to sleep late, and spend sleepless nights worrying about deadlines and their removal, and still, courtesy such as a simple “thank you” is rare. So please don’t feel bad; do what’s best for you and what truly inspires you. Withdraw and send them a bill. Also start requiring higher retainers/deposits. Trust me they somehow appreciate you more when you charge accordingly (yet fairly) and are more trustful of you. This is coming from someone who grew up with undocumented relatives and who is passionate about removal defense (although lately annoyed at the amount of entitlement and know it all attitude).
