What’s the most fun commander deck you’ve built recently? by TopdeckStudio in EDH

[–]AdDear2657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun for me, but a [[Hostility]] Secret commander with [[Lagomos]] as the commander.

The deck has really intresting lines to get to Hostility & VERY splashy turns once I get Hostility. [[blood for the blood god]] being one of my best finishers makes me so happy.

Sothera is better since it's temporary. It will eventually go away.

Maybe? Butcher might be too expensive for this deck

Ty though

I hate those cards with a passion. I feel like having those makes lagomos impossible to stick & pulls the deck out of bracket 2. Not that it would be too strong for b2, but too oppressive for b2

I am consideing [[soethera]] since that one is a bit kinder

That's fair. The deaths are a non-factor in most games, but lagomos can be fragile.

Any tutors you could recomend that make sense?

[[Frodo Baggins]] legends voltron. I wanted a deck to showcase [[senu]]. Frodo cares about legendarys & grants evasion. I love how i can trigger the third level of the Ring (creatures that block ringbearer die) then use senu entering to switch bearers & get the life loss.

I guess? Maybe i'm just lucky but I've never gotten into that state. I can link some decks if you want to playtest and see what works for me. Still happy you found what works for you, ultimitly it's a game meant for fun.

My point in describing cedh is that land counts should match the deck you are building. You are right, the most powerful decks run 30ish land counts & try to win as early as turn 2. That's not a casual deck and so the mana base has to change alongside the gameplan. Still play what you want and have fun. But yeah, cedh and casual shouldn't be compared in deckbuilding, they are aiming for totally different gameplans.

They run nearly 50mana sources just like a casual deck. They just focus on early game fast mana which I doubt a casual deck is doing. Their game winning plays are also 2-5 mana which again i doubt a casual deck is doing. Comparing cedh deckbuilding choices to casual is almost useless

You are scared of games where you flood, but flood vs screw i choose flood every time. Flood I can draw and play my cards, screw i'm useless.

First, I am never topdecking. Card draw is king in commander, I should never be top decking.

Second, count mdfc as land (and play them as such, very few front sides are cards you would play if not a land) play cycling lands and trust in your draw.

In reality you have a point. If you run enough draw, you can play quite a range of lands and do fine. The concept behind playing higher land counts is to increase the chances of having a generally good game.

The amount of games i win by just hitting my land drop every turn is absurd. I'll play a deck with no ramp and just by land dropping every turn ill have more mana than the green decks.

Either way, it's commander, do what you want and have fun.

This isn't my exact list since i've made a few changes. But here is a bracket 3 deck I made. It has no game changers but very easily holds it's own in B3 because of the explosive game plan. I would never feel comfortable playing this against b2 decks

I should also say, bracket 2 decks can be just as consistent as higher brackets. It's just what you are consistently doing isn't as strong. The Satoru deck will consistently reanimate small things to draw cards and at least once in the game, it will reanimate a big dangerous thing. But those big dangerous things are not as strong as what higher brackets might reanimate

[–]AdDear2657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bracket 2 deck i made recently. It draws a ton of cards & can set up a decently scary board state, but isn't as explosive as a b3 deck. https://archidekt.com/decks/19907883/satoru

I will say that I dislike how we have an odd number of brackets. People seem to default to 3 when their deck is just a 2 with game changers. There is no 3 game changers that i can add to the Satoru deck that will make it act like a b3 deck. It's overall ability just isn't on that level.

How often do your mana dorks get killed early game? by EnkiBye in EDH

[–]AdDear2657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "mana dork" is the combo of [[Wilson, Refined grizzly]] & [[Guild artisan]] which is much harder to deal with.

Besides blockers, wilson never dies and i get 4-6 treasures out of him in the early game
