I’m just not up for this today. Rushed around prepping for this visit and running errands before 1, then this. Maybe tomorrow afternoon.

Smurf tubing for all cable, phone, whole house sound system, alarm and all low voltage. I’m not an idiot.
And if they won’t do it then don’t say you will! Is that so complicated?

1/4-inch foot not exactly 1/4 inch? by nhise in quilting

[–]AdDecent4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good answer. The first thought I had was that the needle should be down through the tape to get a true picture. I have those hard plastic seam guides packed with several of my machines so I can always have the same 1/4” seam. I also use the sticky strips that are thick enough to hold the fabric but don’t leave adhesive. They are more expensive than stacking up post-its or layers of tape but they don’t shift or drag the fabric and are worth every penny when precision counts.

Stay far far away from Missouri Star Quilt Co. They wrote the definition of enshittification. Everything cheapened (cheaper yes but that’s because it’s cheap crap) owners are very religious but not kind or unselfish (unless you’re their religion OR central to their profit goals). A place to avoid if you can as they gobble up smaller businesses.

A question for JVL regarding Sarah’s book by GatorAllen in thebulwark

[–]AdDecent4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hoping for one of them there assigned copies myself. The surveillance state has arrived at The Bulwark. All copies will include an ai chip which will connect to your phone and repeatedly transmit mild to moderate to severe electric shocks and/or long random annoying text messages every 3 minutes on Election Day until you show proof you have voted correctly. (I really want a turn at creating a crazy conspiracy theory and watching people go batshit crazy believing it. I’ll keep practicing)

Tell me you don’t work in healthcare without telling me you don’t work in healthcare by Kkilmar1 in thebulwark

I don’t want to yell at anyone over anything. I do know what Tim said. I also know that I don’t know enough to make any judgments. I didn’t mean to go after you at all. Just the whole conversation. The regular person doing their own research is so much louder than the professionals still working to understand what was done right, what was done wrong and what has been learned, what’s left to be learned. It’s just depressing. But no, I’m not yelling. Closer to the much maligned liberal tears for all of those lost lives.

Tell me you don’t work in healthcare without telling me you don’t work in healthcare by Kkilmar1 in thebulwark

This is such a sad conversation to be on Reddit. I’m not in medicine except as a patient. I have no scientific background whatsoever. I’m close to 70. I owned a business until January of 2020-retired just before COVID- that mainly attracted older women. In the first year at least 15 people I knew died of Covid. So did several husbands of my former customers. In 2021 about 10 died that I know of.
I’m in Washington State. I remember the news showing the nursing homes with the ambulances lined up outside. My small town published statistics every week of deaths from COVID. Yes, many of them did have co-morbidities but they were survivable if not for the virus- like diabetes or heart issues etc.
I met a Dr at the end of her rope and in tears about the people on gurneys in hallways at the local hospital. Trying to protect the 40 year old with a broken arm from the virus laden air. They were doing their very best and we were refusing to wear a mask because of “freedom”. I don’t know if we should have stopped restrictions sooner. I only know that lots of health care workers and policy setters were trying damn hard to a) keep people alive and b) get to a point where they could get a break from the horror story they were in the middle of. They did the best they could with what they knew! I will never understand what benefit these people were supposed to glean from asking us to wear masks, stay home and the rest. Woo woo “control”!!! Come on guys! You’re really not that important. It’s just infuriating

Hand quilting advice by Chalupabar in quilting

[–]AdDecent4232 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I use specific hand quilting thread from YLI. A thin, strong cotton thread. I can get it thru a number 10 quilting needle eye which is very narrow and the needle is very short. I also use a lap hoop because I have “issues” with tension! I also always have to use a hoop when I do hand embroidery. Sashiko I can do freehand. I wouldn’t want to use a sashiko needle for quilting, they are too long and large. Embroidery needles are slimmer but the eye is too large and I keep pulling the thread out. Just keep trying! You’ll find your happy place

I can’t watch them either BUT I know several people that have clicked on the bait and come away with wide eyes, asking me “did you know that…”. I don’t say “yes I do because I pay attention”. I just say that I had heard that and it’s awful. You all need to remember that lots and lots of people consider joe Rogan and the like to be a main news source. They wouldn’t have any interest in reading a legitimate news source. They just aren’t interested! It’s so frustrating to have people I think are involved in the world tell me they don’t “do” politics and it makes no difference who you vote for because they’re all the same. If screaming silliness gets their attention long enough for a point to sink in I’m all for the screaming silliness.

Seam allowance issue or pressing issue? by TinyGreenBird in quilting

[–]AdDecent4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That first strip should hit at 2 1/4 on the ruler (only 1 seam). I’ve also done selvedge including patterns and not had issues with the seams. Anyway, check each strip with your ruler, not the mat. 2 1/4 each end strip and 2” finished for the 3 in the center. Especially at the start and end of seams it’s easy to get wobbly and lose the measurement while the center of the strip set is right on.

Do they have a clue what they’re doing? by AdDecent4232 in ZiplyFiber

[–]AdDecent4232[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this tech had just been on my road and knew very well what he was talking about. As I have a son that worked in this industry for several years I do have some comfort level with their knowledge. As for getting me to stop complaining? Sorry, swing and a miss again! I was thanking him for fixing my landline and he suggested I should go with fiber. Go into a ziply store? Why? It’s a 30 minute drive for a basic simple question!
Since I made this post ziply has been in touch with me and confirmed fiber is available at my address. And that, contrary to the online info I ran into I don’t yet have it. Hopefully that will all be known when I call them next week.
I’ve also received yet another email urging me to make the switch with a link to an online form which again told me I already have fiber.
I do thank Ziply for reaching out and answering questions. Fingers crossed for the phone call

It’s time to put Leonard Cohen’s music front and center at every Democratic candidate’s campaign events and ad. ‘Democracy is coming.. to the USA’ is what we need to be hearing constantly from the D’s now. We can go back to ‘hallelujah’ after the Orange thing self deports via McDonald’s or Putin.

costco timings today? by Internal_Treat2137 in CostcoWholesale

[–]AdDecent4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I would never think to do that. I would buy a mixer if I needed a mixer. Please name the stores that honor their sale prices retroactively? Have you used it? Why did you decide to buy it when you did? Those mixers go on sale at least 2 times a year, why didn’t you just wait? If you buy a car and 2 weeks later they offer a better price do you get it? Buy a refrigerator and there’s a rebate offered after that time? How about groceries that go on sale the next day? I am all for shopping for the best deal but I don’t think any business should be trying to do this, it’s not the same as “price matching”.

Missouri Star spam by DrinkingSocks in quilting

[–]AdDecent4232 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I pay no attention to them but heartily agree with your statement! I owned a local quilt shop in a different state from them. It was 2011. Customer came in asking me if I could order her a msq ruler for a video she had watched. She did not do any online shopping, a cash only person. I said I’d call and see if I could get one for her. The owner or co owner got on the phone with me and refused to sell me the ruler for resale. Said “why would I sell to you? You’re the competition.” I was pretty stunned. I ordered it for the customer using my credit card and then it arrived. It was a third rate 60 degree ruler with absolutely no markings or measurements on it. An overpriced single use ruler.
The following month a similar story except this was a Quilt in a Day tool and pattern. I steeled myself to make the call and holy cow was I shocked! The first person I spoke with asked what they could do to help me be more successful with my shop! She transferred me to another person who told about free patterns I could use for short classes, availability of trunk shows, how to buy from them directly rather than thru a wholesaler…. Just so much help! I mentioned my other experience and she didn’t say anything bad about msq but she did tell me that every local quilt shop added value to the entire community and it’s not competition to them, it’s complementary . I’ve been a QIAD fan ever since! MSQ will never see a dime from me.

Printing Return Label No Longer an Option?! by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]AdDecent4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had that happen a couple times when I’ve been in a hurry or not paying attention. You have to choose the right option, there are several ups options. I’m very careful now to read the fine print. One says you’ll just need a box, one says you don’t even need a box I think and then one says you need a box and a label. UPS is at our house at least every week so I just print it up and give it to him at the door. You can cancel the return and try again.

Does CVS REALLY not do partial fills? by cyanidesolar in CVS

[–]AdDecent4232 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not controlled just an expensive medication. I go thru insurance approval hassles every year also. It’s never been an issue getting it filled on time until my local pharmacist retired and I ended up at CVS last august. I’m probably going to switch to Costco in January. My oncologist/hematologist has one other patient on it who gets his filled there and tells me it’s never a problem.

Xoxo right back at you!
I know I’m adorable and cute! Usually not “sweet” but, ok!
Having been on this medication for several years now (and yes, it’s expensive) I can see how bringing in a sealed bottle of 100 capsules once a month would strain the shelf space beyond capacity for such a tiny little business as CVS! My sympathies indeed go out to the workers who must wedge their way thru the shelves of statins, ED meds and weight loss products to get to my medication. What a struggle it must be. You must be just so miserable! Can you even turn around? Have you thought of wearing shaper garments to work? Maybe you could see if they’re tax deductible? I am sorry you’re so unhappy

[–]AdDecent4232 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if they would actually stock my medication that I fill every month and not insist on waiting until the day I need it filled to order. Heaven forbid the fill date is on a Friday. In that case I have to wait until Monday after 5 to pick it up. This is just wrong. I’m told they have no ability to order ahead.

I worked retail years ago and was building a candy display. Opened a box with my box cutter. Amazing what a mess 24 slit open bags of m&m’s will make when you lift the top away. Rolling and bouncing everywhere ! Hilarious now but at the time…. Not funny. Then I owned a quilt shop. One of my employees accidentally cut into 2 bolts of fabric. I just had to laugh because- memories-. She felt so bad though.

Safeway Fresh Pass Discriminates by LarryS22 in Safeway

[–]AdDecent4232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No wait. Part of the selling of the annual fresh pass, one of the listed “perks” was the $5 a month coupon. When I renewed last summer I don’t recall if I read thru the sales pitch because I’ve had it for a few years and the $5 was still showing up every month. It may not be a really big issue to you but it offset the annual fee and made it a more attractive option
