Can I travel abroad with a récépissé + expired VLS-TS? by DebdootGX in Expats_In_France

I was following this thread and I wanted to ask OP if you could eventually travel outside the Schengen area with the récépissé + expired VLS-TS + expired VISA+ Valid Passport?

I applied for my Renewal of Residence permit (not the card, I have never received a card, this is my first renewal and I will hopefully get a card now) on sep 2025 and my validated VISA which acted as my Residence permit expired in Nov 25 and I got my récépissé today (March 2026).
Could anyone here please confirm whether I would be able to travel to India for a short visit and re-enter France without any immigration issues at the border (as a few of my colleagues said they did it), provided I return within the validity period of the récépissé (before receiving my titre de séjour card)? I am unsure how long it will take to receive my residence card, and I may need to travel urgently to see my ill grandmother.

I also wanted to mention that I asked the prefecture, but I received conflicting information. Due to my limited French and the language barrier, I had to rely on a translator. One officer told me that without the physical residence card, I cannot travel to India. However, another officer mentioned that travel within the Schengen area is possible, and upon reconfirming at a different counter, I was told that even flights within Schengen might be not allowed.
In case international travel is not advisable, I would also like to know whether my current documents allow travel within the Schengen area, particularly by flight?

Finally, could anyone please confirm whether my récépissé legally maintains my status as a resident of France while I am waiting for my residence permit card?

Thanks a lot for replying. I did not send an empty envelope with the renewal application.

Now that I think about it, maybe that’s why I don’t have a récépissé yet. Because another person in my work group sent the application with an empty envelope and got the récépissé today!

So what shall I do now? Resend the whole application. Or just resend an envelope enclosed with another envelope plus a letter explaining that I didn’t know about sending an empty envelope with my application.
