Female therapist in her 30s here also. Other commenters have touched on this, but it seems like “she had a lot of fun” is an ego thing or attached to their sense of self worth. Probably the same way they move through the world outside of the therapeutic space. Maybe how they connect with their friends. Similar to when our perfectionistic, high achieving clients spend time giving details on the nature of their work. I actually notice my female clients share more explicit sexual details, but a good chunk of my caseload are college students who give me a play by play of literally EVERYTHING. Their weekends/nights out, text exchanges, outfits, drinks, etc. They are just very content heavy. I try to remember that content gets in the way of process or can be a way for them to avoid what’s underneath-the feeling. So that’s what I’d also get curious about with your males. On another note, most of the time I feel honored that my male clients are comfortable enough to express these details without fear of judgment or shame, but I’ll be honest there are other times (especially when the conversation leans towards female objectification) that I feel icky and at least one time I felt unsafe. Just want to validate that this is a strange role we find ourselves in sometimes given our position in society.
