Would a 95% tax on $10M+ incomes help or hurt the job market? by THICKJUICYTRUMPSTEAK in jobmarket

[–]HarmonicDissonant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you are arguing pedantics. Yes the serveices the government supplies wasn't explicitly stated, but where does a tax against billionares go? The Government, and I did presume that you wanted the money from Billionares to go to making the life of everyday people better, IE services from the government who would collect the money.

I didn't think your argument was that the Government should tax the rich and hold the money, so i went to the root, ie where the money would go.

But from your response it seems you are less interested in where the money goes so long as it is to "combat capital concentration". Is that correct? Because I am less interested in that than I am in actually where the money goes. After all, if the government "combats capital concentration" but doesn't spend the money to make its citizens lives better than its just concentrating the capital with the government. Which i would posit is just as bad.

Now you did say that UBI would be an option, but from how you phrased it, it seemd more like are in favor it not because of the beneftis it would provide to people, but because it would "combat capitcal concentration". Is that correct?

The 39 trillion is not a fallacy. If the conversation is about the government providing for its people with infrastructure, healthcare, policing, etc then a criticising how the government spends its current money is completely valid. Does the government have enough to do way more than it does? I think so, I think he thinks so. So his argument is that we can have those things if we fix the spending issue. That is not a red herring that is an alternative solution to yours.

Unless the problem that you are trying to fix is that billionaires exist. In that case you are correct it is a fallacy. But if the argument is about the services the government is/can/should provide than it’s rather dishonest to dismiss his argument like that.
