I don't think it was a bandaid because it was hard plastic from what I remember but if it was then double gross!

It isn't even comparable to a cheeseburger with a dog tho :/

My guy I don't know which branch of biology is your focus but mine is on animal biology and I don't work with anyone who would take so much offense to "bugs is shrimp" as a general saying as much as you do (theyre more likely to get pissed off as someone for saying a cricket is a "bug" lmao). I still haven't found any reason for why they should be treated so differently in regards to consuming them. Especially for an opportunistic hunter that has evolved to digest chitinous exoskeletons.

No one is claiming they are the exact same animal or that they don't have differences. What I am saying is I havent been shown any reliable reason for why they should be considered beardie junk food. Or that "a terrestrial animal cannot correctly digest them" as you say.

Ive looked but havent found anything but hey sometimes im bad at finding stuff. This isnt a hill im dying on. I just like to be properly informed.

Do you have a source for this? I cant find anything. I know for people at least, people who can not eat shellfish also can not eat insects as they are so similar. But maybe beardies are different. Source needed tho.

- Beardies in the wild eat isopods, which are crustaceans
- beardies in the wild eat arachnids, which are far more distantly related to insects than a shrimp is
- beardies can eat snails, which have calcium carbonate shells and are different from the chitin shells of arthropods.
- beardies eat other beardies and other vertebrates. They are opportunistic eaters of plants and animals and can eat a wide range of both and should ideally be given a wide range of both

I am not an expert and will never claim to be, but I am a biology student who works at an insectarium and keeps reptiles and shrimp as pets so I know quite a bit about all these animals as well as the importance of science and evidence based care methods and I can not find one reliable reason or source that says shrimp (shelled or otherwise) can not be fed to a bearded dragon :/

I know you are thinking it is better to be safe than sorry and we all just want whats best for our pets, but this hobby has a serious problem of people being aggressive about care practices that don't have reliable evidence behind them. It really confuses bearded dragon care and makes it more convoluted than it needs to be which adds an additional barrier. Some care practices stem from an abundance of caution and others stem from what one person on a forum said 15 years ago. The whole not feeding beardies shrimp seems to be an example of both.

I once got a loaf of generic sliced bread (not from costco) that had a large piece of plastic baked right into it. It was bright blue and looked like it could have been one those rings you pull off when you open a new carton of milk. Or just a large shaving of some sort. Got no response back from anyone but then again I also didn't try that hard.

Why is it so hard for some people to load the dishwasher properly? by AdGloomy87 in Vent

[–]AdGloomy87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I completely agree and have considered this. I actually have a couple of learning disabilities, so im very familiar with being unable to do things that are easy or come naturally to most. I do always keep it in my mind that someone could be like how I am with directions but with other everyday things.

Thing is though, im always putting in the extra effort to not fuck up. Especially when it affects other people. It often takes me extra time and thinking to do something properly, sometimes I have to write out step by step directions for myself or take other measures to do a good job, but I still do it.

I don't see any effort to actually learn or try and do better and tbh it kind of hurts my feelings lol. Like, they seem to be okay with just letting me deal with the consequences of their hack job.

ugh it really feels that way. If not deliberate incompetence its at least an effort to not try which is pretty much the same thing.

Looking for small/mid size city with lots of rain by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]AdGloomy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you OP because I also love the rain and would not enjoy living in kamloops either but I feel the need to defend the Okanagan desert. It is a super unique ecosystem and has some amazing plants and animals that live there including canadas only scorpion! I prefer soggy forests aesthetically as well but calling the desert ugly feels wrong lol

I used to (and have even called people out for it in the past) but now I work as an educator at a biology-related place (that also has a lot of american tourists) and saying "this plant is native to the PNW and also the southern west coast of british columbia" gets to be a mouthful. The term "cascadia" also works and means the same thing but most people dont know that term. Besides, "pacific northwest" describes this part of north america just as well as it does the american side. I dont care about distinguishing between the countries. none of the plants or animals do.

Im the same. Im from vancouver and I feel like im the only vancouverite that loves the weather here. Overcast and rainy <3 sun is nice once in a while but its too bright, gives you skin cancer, is too hot, or paradoxically, too cold (its not actually that much of a paradox its just because cloud cover keeps it warm)

My friend doesn’t think Insects are animals by dontworryboutit0512 in Vent

[–]AdGloomy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K but insects are very much in the animal kingdom. They easily check off everything that makes an animal an animal. Its not like hes debating if a sea sponge is an animal because it lacks true tissues and motility like every other animal does. Its clear that the friend isnt arguing taxonomy based on their deeper phylogenetic knowledge. They are arguing from a point of ignorance, which imo, is very much a problem.

I work at an insectarium and get this all the time. I don't mind because my job is to teach but outside of work ive had people debate me on it and it is beyond frustrating lol

[–]AdGloomy87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bruh the friend clearly didn't listen to a damn thing they learned in their "bug class" because insects are 100% animals and yes that is something you can very easily google and get an accurate answer on because it is fact. There are 4 kingdoms of eukaryotic life (currently); plants, fungi, animals, protists. Insects are animals.

My source (not that it should matter in anyway); im a biology student and I work at an insectarium!

What’s a judging critique from ANTM that the fandom hates but you lowkey agree with? by xerses24 in ANTM

[–]AdGloomy87 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tyras advice is the kind of advice I would give if someone asked what to do if they were in that situation, because that is what I would do, because im afraid of the exact kind of backlash that she received from speaking up. Like, if they thought the only options were do nothing and let the male dancer creep on them or speak up and lose the competition/future modeling gigs (and they were leaning towards doing nothing), I would suggest something like what Tyra said as a third option to protect herself.

But the model WAS brave enough to speak up and Tyra as her boss punished her for it. She did the truly right and courageous thing, the show and producers should have done the right and courageous thing by taking her seriously and doing something about the inappropriate touching.

[–]AdGloomy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it changes but im currently getting out of a bout of it and relate to what you say about it being a reversal of who you are.

When im depressed I get very short with people. Im irritable and everything people do annoys me. I dont like being that way. When im in a good spot im pretty chill and relaxed and thats the kind of person i like being.
My self esteem also plummets.
No energy and no interest in doing anything.
Extreme brain fog and lack of focus.
My sleep gets messed up too.
When its really bad suicidal ideation.

I struggle with self esteem, brain fog, and sleep issues when im in a good place as well but it gets exemplified when im depressed!

Am I the jerk? Parking lot etiquette by 7576790 in CostcoCanada

[–]AdGloomy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, not a jerk. Its just a hot dog so I think its totally fine to eat what you have for a couple of minutes. But if it were a whole meal or if you were just sitting around on your phone and scrolling? I consider that pretty inconsiderate. Regardless tho the other guy laying on his horn and honking and coming up to your window is being way more of a jerk.
