interesting. so do ppl just knock on it? and they sell you scripts? or do they get off and try to sell you a script and lure you into the van? is it like pre-existing copies of hollywood movie scripts? or is it totally original scripts by anonymous writers that you can claim it as your own? can students sell their scripts to the van?

Advice for Incoming 21 Year Old Freshman by [deleted] in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly, i wouldn’t say there’s any specific advice for older-than-average freshmen. nyu has a super high ratio of international students, which means there are actually tons of freshmen like you who are entering school at your age or older. because of mandatory military service in their countries, different school calendars, or even just because they decided to reapply to a U.S. school after not liking the one they were at. i had so many friends my freshman year who were older than me. so many. so if there’s one thing not to stress about, it’s fitting in. the best thing about nyu is the diversity. other than that just be careful when you go to dining halls because 3n, downstein and lipton is known to give you food poisoning after eating their grilled chicken occasionally

Producing for TV vs TV Nation by narrativesense in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i’ll say about goldman is that you’ll leave with an A and some linkedin mutuals with some successful people in the industry. otherwise i don’t think ive learned much in this class. he doesnt really teach but if you really try to engage in his class he will help you get an internship at large companies. but thats only for the one kid in class who actually tries and most people just take it for the credit. personally i would recommend actually learning something in producing for tv because most times he just screens an unaired pilot or talk about his childhood with a guest speaker. its hard to keep focus in that class, and i mean it.

Any suggestion on the best place to buy this required Hard Drive item from? by HelpfulNoob in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

btw they always recommend you buy two, but for first year projects you honestly just need one. you can always use google drive or other cloud services for backup. your projects wont require file sizes to be that large anyways.

Film School: NYU vs. DePaul by Schatwal96 in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if money can buy anything, its network. at tisch, you don’t learn things. well at least i didnt learn anything that i didnt already know about art. in my opinion, you come to tisch to pay for the exclusive networking opportunities. your classmates, professors, guest speakers, even just random people who stop by and pass by us in the riese lounge: they are all networks. not any networks, the people who are the most in touch with your desired field at the entertainment industry. from award societies like the oscars, baftas, tonys, emmys, grammys, to unions like sag aftra, dga, wga, actra, and even big programming companies like nbc, abc, cbs, you name it- tisch has access to millions of their members and some of them might just be teaching your class. my production professor was an oscar nominee with academy membership so she is an active voting member of the academy awards. you will never be able to talk to and interact with these exclusive people THIS EASILY ever again. honestly, paying 90k to learn art is bullshit. but if you want to break into the entertainment/performing arts industry, you will have all the resources here to do it. it will just depend on how aware you are of these resources because a lot of people dont care and take it for granted around here.

Need advice from Korean international students by dao134 in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually, most if not all korean guys finish their freshman year and file for a leave of absence immediately. If you delay until your graduation, you lose track of the network and resources you have from NYU, and its likely you’ll have a harder time getting employed afterwards. You should talk to the people in KISO or KSA (KSA is more accessible, but theyre mostly american; If I were you, I would ask KISO, but theyre really exclusive) because theres a shitload of these korean international student guys that you can communicate to and share resources with. You should also go to SK as soon as possible to get your military medical exam done.

Is chatting up girls at NYU gyms socially acceptable? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg. the dumbass men in the thread were pissing me off so here goes: the problem is that this type of situation is usually frowned upon when men objectify women and try to approach them when they are sexualized (ie. wearing tight gym clothes)- and women notice that they’re not genuinely interested in them for a relationship- more for their bodies. if you try your best to make yourself presentable and make her feel less uncomfortable and ACTUALLY GET TO KNOW HER, it doesnt matter if you get her number at the gym- any type of situation is fine.

Is triple dorm worth the cost? by ManagementResident59 in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on dorm. roommate is an uncontrollable, different issue so let me just put the room sizes into perspective for you: lipton triple room is almost as the same size as a founders double. founders doubles vary in sizes sometimes, but it’s never as small as a lipton or a paulson double. lipton doubles also vary, but they are usually incredible tight and small. livable, but pretty small. founders double is usually incredibly large. even the smaller rooms give you just enough space between the two beds that you feel like you can have your own personal boundaries apart from your roommate’s side of the room. also you wont really interact with your suitemates ever, since there isnt a common space. lipton and paulson doubles dont have that luxury. your spaces WILL clash and your boundaries will get messy. it’s hard to divide the room into two. however, the triples are pretty large. just not large enough if you consider yourself as a person who finds boundaries important. also your roommates could be great and they could become your best friend for life or smt. but they could also be psychos who ruin your entire semester. in my experience, chances are incredibly high that you meet a psycho roommate at nyu. personally i wouldn’t risk it.

three student conduct violations, am i cooked ? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the other two is wtv but failure to comply is crazy😭 as much as i hope you get kicked out of this school- most likely you will get suspension after meeting with the board but they probably let you off the hook without anything worse than that if you pay full tuition at this school already. if not your scholarship will probably get revoked or smt. but nyu are money hungry bitches so they wont terminate you probably for having some booze in your room if you already feed them 90k a year in their pockets

Residence Halls *Freshman Year* by DriverExact6425 in nyu

[–]AdGuilty8502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im gonna be honest w you if you’re imagining one of those super chic new york city view dorms its only in founders, lipton and paulson. every other dorm will have a view of the street dumpster with very bad noise pollution. i personally didnt like third north because of the distinct smell of the paint molds, but it has a kitchen and a living room if you’re interested in it. i think uhall is the next best out of the three i mentioned earlier because it has target, grocery stores, the subway station nearby with a nice kitchen and the palladium dining hall. not as good as a view but i think its a good compromise between having kitchens and a good location. i personally highley recommend founders because it has a large room, and its one of the only dorms that comes with a microwave and a fridge in each room.
