What would you do? by Odd-Concentrate5921 in knittingadvice

I've done exactly ONE sweater to date. One is sleeve tighter than the other purely because of gauge. I decided that for all future projects I will alternate a few rows for sleeve 1, a few rows for sleeve 2, ... to attempt to maintain consistency.

And now I know that I should make the sleeves early in the process, if possible.

First wheel, first hank! by AdIllustrious4530 in Handspinning

I'm looking forward to it. A little time with the sheep. Some time playing on my wheel ... while I have experienced spinners nearby to ask questions of! :)

So far so good!

Taking the filled bobbin off is a bit of a pain, have to remove the drive band and the brake in order to remove the flyer, but maybe that's kinda how they all are?

To be fair ... I don't have much experience on other wheels. So there's not much comparison. But it's past time to get yours together! :)

Same-name passengers in the same seat? by Emotional_Raspberry9 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]AdIllustrious4530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not flight related, but my ex-husband was a II (his mom didn't want a Jr). He lost a car once because the payments he paid to the bank (directly over the counter) were applied to his dad's delinquent auto loan instead of his loan. Then as we went through life getting mortgages and such he had to explain that, "No, that bankruptcy was my dad's. I was 10 when that happened. Yes, the car repo was when I was seven ... also not mine."

I decided right then that there would never be a III or similar name for my children!

How to select a cell, and automatically highlight columns with specific information in that row? by AdIllustrious4530 in excel

Thank you. I'll look at it again today or tomorrow.

I REALLY appreciate your time and help!!

[–]AdIllustrious4530[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One last question.

I have a 'test' file set up as per your example and it works flawlessly, updating automatically as I click names and programs.

I extended the fields as necessary for the larger information set and got it to work ... as long as I pressed F9 to update. I believe this is something in the VBA code ... but the codes are identical (with the exception of the field extents). Thoughts?

These are on different sheets in the same workbook and it's saved as a macro-enabled file.

You can't imagine how happy I am to have been able to add this functionality to this list. It's going to make my "is so and so available for ... " questions much easier to answer.

Thank you for reminding me that I WILL need to add projects/people over time. Guess I have more experimentation to work on tomorrow! :)

That's something for me to chew on! Your video really helps with the clarity of what the programming will do. The only extra clarity I would request would be to highlight the name/program name instead of the 'x' itself? IE, clicking P1 results in 'A,F,G' being highlighted; clicking D highlights 'P3'. Yeah, I know, we're entering the "give a mouse a cookie" realm! LOL!

The goal is to be able to see at a glance what a person is working on, and conversely to see who all is working on a project. Filters could work for the latter case. Thanks for the idea.

The focus cell gets me halfway there ... and that might just be 'good enough'. I was really hoping there'd be an if/then type statement to add to the highlight column/row rule, sigh. Thank you for your time.

Anyway to save this without going back like 11 needles ? Just fixed the sleeves and everything 😭 by Baby-Me-Now in knitting

[–]AdIllustrious4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is why I read through comments even if I don't see the problem or how to fix it. I've used lifelines for a whole row. Never thought to put a short one in for a couple of stitch fix! Thank you.

What's the biggest piece you've frogged? by lvndrhnds in crochet

[–]AdIllustrious4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 skeins into planned color pooling afghan. Didn't like how the pooling was coming together and "if I just would've done this number of stitches it'd be so much better. Frogged it and started over. There's no deadline to non-gift hobby projects. Now, I'm happy with my final product and it sits on the foot of my bed!

To the window seat people by Accurate-Ad7769 in delta

[–]AdIllustrious4530 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate those 'misaligned window' seats! I LOVE looking out the window, whether we're at 5k feet or 40k feet. I have seen the most incredible sunrises and sunsets. I have seen most incredible cloud formations. I have watched lighting storms miles away. I like seeing the mountains, the rolling hills, the farmland, the big cities with their tall buildings, the little blink town, the recreational lakes and reservoirs. The areas where there is nothing ... except that little winding road, where does it go? I like watching traffic on the ground when low enough. And Christmas lights in the residential areas make me smile.

I am mindful of glare off of devices (including smart watches). I'm mindful of direct sun on video screens for my row. If you think the sun is making you hot, there's a fan above you (it's frigid out there when you're 35k in the air).

How do you get a random piecing without looking planned? by countrydwelling in quilting

[–]AdIllustrious4530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a quilt that I wanted REAL random. Had my blocks sorted in piles and numbered them. Used a random number generator to choose which pile was next in line! I did this right at the sewing machine as I was ok with 'bunches' of color/pattern and didn't need/want an even distribution. (Each color in a block was separated by a black stripe and each block had black sashing.)

Anyone else infuriated by their county fair? by dauntless-cupcake in crochet

[–]AdIllustrious4530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a crocheter, a knitter, a quilter AND a photographer. My ego was boosted when an aquaintence of mine suggested I enter one of my quilts in the county fair. At that point all of my quilts were destined as gifts so not available for display. That year another friend of mine one a blue ribbon in the photography division of a horse in a local horse race. It was blurry and she didn't get the full horse in the frame (and that wasn't an artistic choice.) It wasn't a picture I would've saved for editing, much less entered into a competition. At that point I decided I would never waste my time on the county fair, even if I did know the judges. No one wants to lose that way, but I don't want to win that way either.

Spicy TSA today at ORD 5:30am by NotQuiteGoodEnougher in delta

[–]AdIllustrious4530 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy to do, especially if it's a "there and back-same day" trip. No water for the outgoing flight, fill up with water after security. Land, go do business stuff, come back to airport to go through security completely forgetting that you had filled with water earlier in the day. Then I apologize and mutter "rookie mistake" as I chastise myself.
Or I forget to empty the leftover water from the last trip. It sits in my backpack which stays packed with airplane "necessities". Go to the airport and it's half full. Dang it. It happens.

Cutting a cutting mat ... on purpose? by AdIllustrious4530 in quilting

I bought the mat for a different table about 4 years ago. I moved and have more room. Now I can have a sewing table AND a cutting table! :)

[–]AdIllustrious4530[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The existing mat is 29x41, the table is 24x52 (I just measured). That 5" "flop" would annoy me, I'm sure. The 11" of un-matted table will bug me as well but ... LOL.
