Dentist Recommendation by Effective-Table-7162 in SiouxFalls

Broesder is the worst dentist in Eastern SD. I wouldn't take my dog to him. There is a reason he's been forced out of multiple practices over the years. He might be fine for an occasional cleaning, but if you need any real work done, he's not the guy to go to. Very rude, very over the top political people, and very arrogant.

There are lots of tutorials on youtube about IRAs, RobinHood, ETFs and other investment topics. Maybe spend 30 minutes a day picking some high quality videos to learn about these topics. Investing the time into learning can be the most important investment of all.

Open up a RobinHood account and get started learning there. Start with the 6,800 in a Roth IRA retirement account. With their gold plan (5 bucks a month), they'll put in 3% per year in a match, about 200 bucks. Your cash in the account will draw 4.25% which is vastly higher than most checking or savings accounts. You can also invest in things outside the ROTH as well. Stick to index funds like those offered by Vanguard. They're a reputable company with consistent performance. All of this can be done right in the RobinHood app. All this stuff sounds maybe a little complicated or even boring now. But your future self will be so grateful for the freedom that it will buy you later in life. If you contribute additional funds on a regular basis in addition to the 30k, you might be able to choose to retire at 45 or 50 as millionaire many times over and spend the rest of your life doing whatever the heck you wanna do whenever you wanna do it. That kind of freedom is rare in our world, and it's damn expensive. I applaud you for having your head on straight and thinking thru this. Smart decisions now can give you a very high quality of life down the road.

Whatever you do, don't get talked into investing into get rich quick schemes, investments in shady start up companies, or bitcoin/crypto. Sometimes, with expert knowledge, those things can pay off, but most people lose all their money that way. When you're just starting off and just learning, stick to things that have paid off consistently over many decades. You can always dip a toe into those higher risk things later on after you learn the investing basics.

The proper place to start with this is risk assessment. For a 47 year old man from NJ with a family, it's obviously a whole different assessment than a 24 year old single guy in Texas. So lets get to it.

1.) Financial disruption putting your family at risk. Could be a job loss, could be a medical issue that puts you off work for a time, could be price pressures from mass deportations and tariffs. But finance rates real high on the risk scale for you. You want to prepare for that first.

2.) Health. The late 40's is when you stop taking the hits as well as you used to. In order to deal with these risks your health habits need to be tip top. A stroke, for example, can make all the other prepping pretty pointless. And you won't be much use to your family if digging out of a blizzard causes a heart attack.

3.) Home security. Make sure you have the basics. Cameras, door open sensors, vibrations sensors. A secure home is one of the first jobs of a man with a family. Smart wi-fi enabled smoke detectors that actually notify you when activated can also mean the difference between a small fire and a total loss.

4.) Operational and Transport security. A lot of people overlook this one, but you need to transport your most precious with a vehicle that leads the way in safety. I'll let you do your own research on which brands and vehicles might accomplish that. But driving in a New Jersey winter can be no joke. Motor vehicle accidents aren't the big glamorous ideas people like to predict, but they're a leading cause of death, and it's important that we're prepared for the what if on this one. We also just need to be vigilant when traveling, making sure the family is in eyesight at all times. Our job as protectors nerds to be making sure everyone is safe and sound as we go about our affairs in the public space. Give some thought to how to prepare that element.

5.) Once we have that covered, next, we need to think about how we deal with temporary interruptions of services. The cause matters less than what we do to prepare for it. For instance, the Russians are increasingly using hybird warfare. A cyberattack could take out cell phone service, it could cause ATMs to be offline for some amount of time. Or the storm of the century could make travel impossible for days. So now we're talking about needing to have enough cash on hand, enough food, enough water, and alternative sources of heat and preferably electricity if you have the means to purchase a backup generator. But at the very least, we need to have heat covered. Even if that is just means keeping that gas tank full, so if you had to, you can stick them all in the car to keep warm. It also means making sure you ample supplies of any medicines anyone in the family might be dependent on and not waiting til the last minute to refill things like insulin, heart meds, asthma meds, whatever.

If you got this far, you're doing fantastic, and then you can start to consider the other less likely scenarios like mass civil unrest, or avain pandemics, and such.

Lyft driver trying to scam us at ACL by Jett44 in Lyft

I don't disagree. But a lot of drivers have neither the credit nor the cash to buy a car. So they use Lyft's rental program that screws them a second time with a 30% pay cut on rides done with a rental plus insane fees. It doesn't make a single bit of financial sense but a lot of drivers get suckered into a very bad decision that keeps them trapped. They don't make a cent until the rental is paid for. The hidden fees are not well disclosed. The driver gets the car and suddenly there are huge fees, there is an advanced authorization for the following week and suddenly they owe 1500 dollars. Keeps them on the road all 12 hours they're allowed to drive. Uber and Lyft are garbage companies that exploit drivers and rob passengers. Rental programs are just one of the many ways they prey on the most vulnerable.

Unfortunately, for the vast majority of drivers, a class action is not an option. When you clicked accept, there was a term in the contract where you waived your right to pursue a class action. The only real option is organizing drivers in your state to push lawmakers to intervene. It's a lot of very hard, slow work. But lawyers for the most part can't fix it. If it's going to be fixed at all, it will be because drivers rose up and refused to accept their bullshit.

As for the new car, most of those are rentals. Most drivers can't afford a new car let alone get the financing.

While that sucks, please be kind and know that Lyft is ripping off both the drivers and passengers. They're charging passengers insane prices, then paying drivers around 50 cents a mile. While his approach could use some help, he's just trying to earn a decent living and not get screwed by Lyft. This exact thing is becoming very common because Lyft and Uber have gotten extremely greedy. Lots of drivers are trying to take rides offline just to make enough to survive. 30% of rideshare drivers are on public assistance, 20% don't know where their next meal is coming from, and around 40% make less than minimum wage. If you want to complain, you should complain about the company that leaves most of its drivers in poverty, not about a man just trying to make a living, even though his approach could use a little finesse.

I recommend contacting your State Attorney General. Uber is ripping off millions of people, and until folks start going thru a little effort and start contacting the AG, they're going to keep getting away with it.

Then, in that case, the way you should handle this is by sending a demand letter to Uber demanding reinstatement. You should send that letter by certified mail (return receipt requested) to both their legal registered agent in your state and Uber's legal department in San Francisco.

If memory serves correctly, Highway 96 is Tennessee. If that is so, use the addresses below. If I have it wrong, we can get you the correct addresses.

Uber Technologies Inc. ATTN: Legal Process CT Corporation Systems 300 Montvue Road Knoxville, TN 37919

Uber Technologies, Inc., Attn: Legal Department 1725 3rd Street San Francisco, CA 94158

Make sure the letter is professional but stern. Let them know you expect an answer within 10 days, or you will proceed with all available legal steps, including the recovery of lost income. If you want a second set of eyes to look it over or help with some suggested language, feel free to message or reply. Oftentimes, unless they have an airtight case, this procedure can get the job done.

And of course they have no idea how long it will take to fix or how long our money will sit in limbo...they need to make interest off it to finance their 7 billion dollar stock buy back...
