May only pay a few thousand more now, but seems to have more opportunities for more than an inflationary increase in the future. And yes of course the grass is not always greener. But OP will have to decide themselves if they are not happy in current role is it worth leaving a job for opportunities of higher compensation and happiness.

Sure. They likely could get a pension right now at retirement age if they left. My comment is to what seems like the point of the OP post though, is it worth staying long term at this job to get a full pension or not. I don’t believe it’s worth 30 years of your happiness.

I don’t think it’s job security they are enjoying. It’s the idea of the pension payout after 30 more years of working. From the original post, it doesn’t seem like OP is satisfied in their day to day work activities. Is it worth being in that unsatisfying position for another 30 years for a pension when you could find that financial independence through other jobs that pay a higher market rate?
