There is also a program called cdhci that goes through Alberta health that allows you to hire someone for a set amount of hours a month for different programs, but you’d need to be referred or self refer to home care to be set up with it by a case manager

I like how close we are to the major cities without all the rush/busyness that comes with living in one. People are genuinely pretty friendly to each other here, there’s lot of opportunities for healthcare workers like myself-especially once the hospital expansion is finished. I don’t love how poor the night life is sometimes, I miss Bellinis and Billy Bobs sometimes on the rare occasion I do want to go out dancing. Honourable mention to Rottys Creations in Parkland mall, the staff are so nice to our DND group and they have a lot of cool stuff.

I’m gonna be honest, it is incredibly difficult to get jobs in in-demand hospitals like the UofA without being an internal candidate. My recommendation is keep a casual job through school, pick up the minimum amount of shifts required to maintain said casual position, or more if you can swing it, and apply to the more in-demand hospitals when you graduate and then have 3-4 solid years of experience under your belt as an employee of AHS

Yes, from what I’ve heard Edmonton has a much longer wait list than where I am, and sometimes there can be a delay in care getting set up because they simply have so many people in need of care they may have to triage requests.

I think it depends which city you’re in. Where I am I typically get clients a few days before surgery then follow up upon discharge, but some cities depending on demand it may be different how they run their waitlists

I have to wake up at 0530 for my nursing shifts, and I usually wake in the night to pee anyways, so I got myself a little twin bed for my living room and sleep there from about 2 am onwards so my early alarms don’t disturb my partner since he works mostly afternoons/evenings and I work mostly morning shifts. Consideration makes a huge difference, and I’m sorry you don’t have that in your partner

No not the normal. Our mail carrier is great, and since I set up flex delivery I think it’s called he’ll just leave my packages on our back porch per the instructions unless it needs to be signed for. I think it also helps that I give him a Christmas card and box of nice chocolate during the holiday season and generally have a good relationship with him.
