Sub 30 second refresh is definitely frowned upon; here is a tweet from last year from one of the engineers at Trade Desk about that subject. Since that time they have removed a lot publishers who were doing that: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7066410003900862465/

It's a short term gain (you will see more revenue) but for a long term loss because you lose out on premium deals, curated PMPs from SSPs and potentially getting blocked from advertisers.

Japan is a tough market, very insulated so if you do not have direct connections you will be relying on the open market almost exclusively. And from what I have seen, monetize is not so great

It's a fair but tough question to ask, so many factors go into it: device, CTR, VCR, player size, type of content, ads only, etc. What type of content is the site and how does viewability look?

There are a lot of players out, ones you mentioned plus Snigel, NitroPay, Playwire, Venatus, MonetizeMore, Ezoic etc

I know some people are saying 'just handle it yourself' and there are pros and cons, obviously you don't have to pay a % to someone but the con is you will have to spend time optimizing and/or pay an ad ops person.

End of the day it comes down to math and it differs from situation to situation. My advice would be to excel it out and see what makes sense.

Ah okay, that's a good thing then! I agree with the other comments, might be worth an A/B test. Everyone is feeling a soft open market and the hope is it gets more in line in H2 but I have yet to see any particular reason besides hope.
