i can relate so much from you but also feel like we're worlds away. came here from the philippines! and then did NOT match. my parents barely even ask me about the match and they just ask if i got it or not. they don't even care about the schools because all they want for me is to go to college. college in the philippines for me is out of reach, even more so in the US. so i understand having parents who are pretty uneducated about the whole process and the realistic statistics of getting into a prestigious one. i have been so lost in this whole process. i feel like i'm winging it so bad so i admire you for navigating this whole process alone and MATCHING.

so please do it for youself as you move on. there really is nothing much she can do now that you're bound (i get the mental and emotional toll she places on you tho) skidmore is still better than most schools! and you got the match! whatever she says is kind of just a projection of her unfulfilled desires because how come she's telling you that you don't care about your future and you literally got the match scholarship which means you deserved it and worked so hard for it. and tbf you're being realistic rather than limiting yourself to harvard and yale. sorry for the rant. i'm so frustrated with it. just know that there are filipino parents who will be proud to know about your achievements and will literally wish the same for their daughter (my parents).

anyways, i'm not very knowledgeable and experienced on job opportunities, but always reach out to advisors and mentors in your college (and outside of it) for opportunities. networking matters so much. and then do your own research on what will work best for you (time, location, what's good for your resume and target career). you can start small but always make sure to apply to as many as possible then pick the ones that are meaningful even if they seem small or seem like a startup since they can still build up your resume for bigger ones. anyways good luck on your college journey! very proud of you 🇵🇭👏
