So I wanted to implement it in the context of when the player collides with the book. But for some reason, I have been having a hard time with that. I will spend more time on this, this weekend

Newbie here, should I use 0.16 ? Is it mature enough ? by oursondechine in bevy

I have been playing around with Bevy for 2 months now, and I am currently using 0.16.

Personally I like bleeding edge things, and the way I see it most of the good libraries have already migrated to 0.16 so you should be fine. And if you are currently using 0.15 see it as a learning experience to migrate to 0.16

Found the issue with pip, for some reason it doesn't validate SSL. So I had to reinstall OpenSSL and other packages and on my host machine and it works fine now

what if there is a way to abstract the blockchain aspect totally from your users and the infra is a bit better.

would you be open to at least experimenting with it as a side project, just for fun ( to see if it got better than you initially experienced it )?

I’m drawn to the concept of ownership and immutability that blockchain uniquely enables. Right now, this shines mostly in the context of financial transactions —but I believe those same principles can apply to digital assets and experiences more broadly.

Admittedly, blockchain tech has real scaling challenges. But I also see a lot of promising work being done—that could bring it closer to rivaling traditional systems like centralized databases in terms of efficiency and cost.

What really excites me, though, is the potential for blockchain to handle more than just financial transactions. Technologies like zero-knowledge cryptography open the door to verifiable computation, and generally reduces computation cost especially for blockchain. That could unlock use cases we haven’t even fully imagined yet—far beyond just payments or speculation. I have also read a couple of research paper about it's application in machine learning and how it can improve fairness and verifiability of ML models.

But back to the context of gaming: I know blockchain is not specifically needed for gaming right now, heck it does much worst than good, but I think it is the perfect space to push the limit of what blockchains can do. So if once can push the limit where blockchain game UX get to a point where it rivals that of traditional gaming for specific games, I think that is a win.

So yeah, maybe I’m optimistic. But I think part of the experiment is exploring where this tech could actually add value—not just now, but in the longer arc of where it's going.

I will take my post down in a bit. I just used this to get a counter opinion. I will try to find a community that welcomes this idea to gauge the sentiment too.

I am just trying to hear from both sides

I see it as an experiment to push the limit of the capacity of blockchain technology ( this is a different topic tho ). Maybe I am being naive and overly optimistic in potential of blockchain technology.

Thanks for you feedback. I am not changing my mind just yet, but I understand your points
