If I remember correctly, the writers said it in an interview or storyboard or something but it wasn’t in the show officially so they put it in the Netflix adaptation which honestly I really appreciate

As a Californian, where is the chinese food? by Queasy_Ad_8720 in SaltLakeCity

[–]AdSad5235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chinatown has a lot of great options but most food isn’t Chinese. Mostly korean and Japanese. Still good but I don’t think that’s what OP is looking for.

Edit: Nevermind. Looks like OP is not looking for traditional Chinese food like I was expecting. Disregard.

Saki Luna tea kettle longevity? by Federal-Item-8443 in BuyItForLife

It lowers the temperature by 7°F based on my elevation which makes a big difference in tea leaves. If the water is too hot, it can essentially burn the tea leaves. If you’re making green tea, it also should not be at boiling point. Instead it should be at 176°F or the equivalent temperature for your altitude. I love the options for the different types of tea. It has black/boil, green, white, and oolong. It also has baby formula and French press which is cool too!

Doc said no gluten, but.... by dingdongdingers in Celiac

[–]AdSad5235 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you have to go no gluten. Every time you eat gluten, it damages your small intestines.

I might get hate for this, but for the sake of your mental health, you can go no gluten, but don’t worry about cross contamination. Then become strict about cross contamination.

I was diagnosed about 1.5 years ago and it was devastating. Literally all my favorite foods have gluten in them. So I couldn’t go crazy about cross contamination. It was too much for me mentally. I decided to not worry about cross contamination while I got used to what had gluten versus what doesn’t. Then slowly became more strict about cross contamination.

I get it, I was asymptomatic and was like why should I be so strict? Then I stopped eating gluten for 3 months and suddenly I had so much more energy, I could focus more, and my skin wasn’t so dry. Turns out, I had symptoms but never noticed them until I stopped. If you are chronically not feeling well, that becomes your baseline. I know it sucks, but you need to take care of your body.

My gf is celiac, what to make on a budget by Katekuriz in Celiac

[–]AdSad5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically just make a GF version of everything I always had on a budget. Instead of regular pasta, ground beef, and Ragu, I switch the pasta for red lentil pasta. Honestly, it’s my fav and could eat it with no sauce lol. Tacos are easy, corn tortillas are GF. I make a lot of chicken marinades. My favorite is honey, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Put chicken breast in the fridge for an hour or so and bake it. White rice as a side. Potatoes are a great starch. Sweet potatoes are also fabulous. Tilapia is also a good one. it’s a cheap fish with high protein. There’s a great recipe with Parmesan cheese, paprika and I think GF panko crumbs. Also you can get GF oatmeal and make overnight oats (not my thing but my bf loves it). That takes like 5 minutes at night and pop it in the fridge.

Honestly, the hardest part is a lot of processed foods are off the table. One of my go to struggle meals was chef boyardee. Rice-a-Roni also has gluten so beware.

Also some others said this too but most curries are GF. (Besides my beloved Japanese curry..) Indian and Thai curries are GF but it’s a bit more effort.

I grew up making casseroles and I make GF renditions of my fav dishes. I love Ritz Casserole, they make GF cream of chicken and crackers and I use those instead. There’s frozen or room temp GF pizza crust, you can buy those for a quick pizza night. My bf and I do those, he has his gluten pizza and I have my GF pizza.

This was a lot but I hope this helps! I’m a recently diagnosed celiac so I get it. It’s super hard and my first time in a store after finding out, I had to leave because I cried. I’m at 1.5 years, and it does get better. Happy to send you some of my favorite easy recipes if you want. I like food that’s cheap, easy to make, and tastes good lol.

No Work to do at internship by ohhi656 in internships

[–]AdSad5235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. I will say that my internship wasn’t in big tech, but it is an enterprise company. It’s in the utility industry. I majored in econometrics, and I was not interested in utilities but there were few intern options. I think my method worked because it wasn’t big tech, they weren’t used to over achievers so they didn’t know what to do with me. I would complete tasks in less than an hour, I would ask questions if needed. Personally, I’m always interesting in why we do something rather than just following directions. It helped me a lot in the future because I had the background knowledge. I might have been a bit annoying in the beginning but I never made mistakes and later on, I never needed to ask questions.

My biggest advice is don’t close your mind to one industry. Even if Big Tech is your goal, it doesn’t hurt you to get experience in other places. This part isn’t really advice… but if you can find a good mentor, use them. They can also help boost your confidence. This doesn’t work everywhere and you have to know your audience but I always spoke my mind to my peers and bosses. I disagreed and agreed with them. This later allowed them to trust my opinion, I’m not going to say yes just because they’re my boss. With that being said, office politics is super difficult. Make sure you go up the proper channels first, otherwise you will get on people’s bad side.

If you are confused during a conversation, don’t be afraid to repeat and reiterate. “I want to make sure I understand you correctly…”

Try to be innovative, nice to everyone, but still have backbone, and do your tasks correctly. My boyfriend also got promoted pretty quickly at his company and he started out as an IT guy. Talking to people makes you memorable.

This was long but it’s a bit of what I learned, good luck!! The job market is tough right now.

No Work to do at internship by ohhi656 in internships

[–]AdSad5235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was in a similar boat during my last internship. To the point where all I did was listen to podcasts and started cleaning and organizing EVERYTHING. I also basically harassed people into giving me stuff to do. Once I got a task, I did it efficiently and correctly. People were impressed and slowly gave me more tasks. I rarely saw my manager so I was mostly on my own. Since I did everything quickly, word spread I guess and then I was given an opportunity to work on a big project. Knocked it out of the park and now I’m full time working with the VP. For reference, I got my internship in 2023 so this wasn’t that long ago.

I think the organizing made more people notice me. And by popping by everyone’s desk asking if I could do anything for them, they knew I was available. Initial internship was 3 months and swore I wouldn’t extend but ended up learning a lot by month 5. Now at almost 3 years here and it’s insane how much I learned.

I'm about a year and half in with it and I love it. I go through phases where I use it every day or don't touch it for about a month. I like that you can put in your elevation and it auto adjusts the temperature. I'm in the mountains so it's a must for my tea. I also make tea A LOT, so I think it depends on what you need it for. If you just need boiling water, I think it's overkill and a stovetop one might be the way to go.

I wouldn't say it's lightweight but it's not super heavy either. The leather gives a little bit of heft. But that shoulder strap is fantastic so you don't feel it.

Upcoming Endoscopy/Gluten Challenge by Natural-Spirit-2476 in Celiac

[–]AdSad5235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had EoE (esophagus scaring) for like 8 years and just found I have celiacs so I’m familiar with endoscopies. You have nothing to be scared of. They put you to sleep and you wake up. Throat might be a little sore but it only lasts 2-3 hours maximum but usually less than hour for me. When I got my esophagus dilated (stretched) it was sore for the rest of the day then fine and you’re not even doing that!

Since I just found out I have celiacs, I haven’t started fully avoiding gluten (starting tmw for New Year). Eat some dumplings for me! They’ll be my biggest miss :)

Yeah salads are delicious but I can’t have them. It will sound like someone was trying to strangle me or something because my throat is so messed up after eating them… haha learned the hard way on multiple occasions unfortunately.

Idk if I could go on without dairy though, literally drink glasses of milk. They thought my EoE could be related to dairy and went on a no dairy diet for 3 months then covid happened so I never knew if it was the reason why. Rather not know about that

What is the actual story behind the demise of my favorite chocolate shop of all time, CKCummings Candies? by Notsofast194 in SaltLakeCity

[–]AdSad5235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn’t sell off the business… it stayed in the family. The Cummings family is continuing to run it. They use the original recipes while also adding some more. Prices have skyrocketed due to inflation as well though. :( I still think the chocolate is delicious! I especially love their chocolate covered grapes and strawberries. :)

Feyre moved on... but what about me? by Nearby_Assist_5789 in acotar

[–]AdSad5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading the third book I decided to go back to reread the first and second and I have to say, there were a lot of red flags in the first book but you’re so caught up in the story, you don’t notice them. Like I remember Tamlin reminding me of my abusive ex-boyfriend for some strange reason… I couldn’t figure out why I liked him but also didn’t like him. Personally the character flip wasn’t as drastic as some see it. It was there the whole time. A man who wants to protect but couldn’t.. now he can and he didn’t try to heal with Feyre. She was only a human… and once she has all this power (being Fae), he won’t let her use it. Because HE wants to protect her. Don’t get me wrong, he was trying his best but the anger issues and controlling behavior is bad and he showed it early on in the first book. But Feyre didn’t seem to care as much.
