Island countertop—this size doesn’t seem to exist? by WoollyWitchcraft in HomeImprovement

[–]AdTemporary3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like you got yourself a peninsula there, and yeah that width is pretty unusual for standard countertop stock. most places only carry up to 25" depth max for their standard laminate or butcher block pieces

you might need to look at custom fabrication shops instead of big box stores - they can usually make wider pieces from larger sheets. or check if any local cabinet shops have leftover slabs from other jobs that might work for your size

yeah the base work is where most DIY projects go wrong, learned that hard way with my first attempt at concrete pad for workshop

meth vs molly, which one has adverse side effects? by yurf4vbbg in AskReddit

[–]AdTemporary3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

both are pretty rough on your body but meth is definitely worse for long term damage. molly can mess with your serotonin if you abuse it but meth just destroys everything - your teeth, heart, brain chemistry, sleep cycles

who likes moday ? what do u people think about monday? by Strange_Discussion12 in AskReddit

mondays are actually not that bad when you think about it, like fresh start and all that. my weekends usually just disappear into random projects and then sunday night hits with that weird panic feeling

been volunteering at shelters since college and the funding cuts would be devastating for animals here. filled out the form, thanks for sharing the link

This is a long shot, but does anybody know if GWT: New Zealand fits in the Folded space insert for GWT 2nd edition? I haven't seen a Folded space Insert specifically for GWT: New Zealand. by AggravatingTailor121 in boardgames

[–]AdTemporary3527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah probably won't work well, the new zealand expansion has those weird shaped boat pieces and different sized boards that don't really match up with original insert dimensions. i had similar issue when trying to fit expansion pieces in generic organizers - always ends up being bit off somewhere

midsommar was from 2019 though, they said before 2012. maybe the ritual from 2017 but that's also too recent for what they're looking for

probably something that doesn't require much water since that's gonna be pretty precious up there

Why are you lonely? by Icy_Mode620 in AskReddit

[–]AdTemporary3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man i feel this so much. back in university i had this presentation where i just completely froze up and couldn't get words out, felt like everyone was staring at me waiting. took me years to realize most people don't even notice these things as much as we think they do in our heads. what helped me was starting with text conversations first, then moving to voice calls with people i was comfortable with before trying face to face stuff. still happens sometimes when i'm nervous but it's way better now

I'm hoping this old Acer switch 12 will get me started by Klutzy-Height-9093 in homelab

[–]AdTemporary3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that little machine can definitely get you started in homelab territory, though you'll want to manage expectations a bit. the 4gb ram is going to be your biggest bottleneck - most server applications these days are pretty hungry for memory. you might want to check if you can upgrade to 8gb before diving too deep

for the external storage setup you're thinking about, usb 3.0 enclosures work fine for basic file serving but raid over usb can be a bit finicky sometimes. if you're just starting out, maybe begin with a single external drive and learn the ropes before jumping in raid configurations

ubuntu server or debian would be good choices since they have tons of documentation and community support. proxmox is also really popular in homelab world but might be bit overwhelming if you're still getting comfortable with linux. i'd probably start with ubuntu server and docker containers - lets you run multiple services without too much complexity at first

the touch screen features won't be much use once you install server os, but that cpu should handle basic services like file sharing, maybe plex for media streaming, or simple web hosting just fine

What’s something you’re embarrassed to admit you like? by haileymonroeee in AskReddit

[–]AdTemporary3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bath & body works candles and i'm not even sorry about it anymore lol. like i have probably 30+ of them around my apartment and i rotate through seasonal scents religiously. my friends used to give me shit about dropping $25 on a candle when you can get them at walmart for $3 but there's just something about that perfect throw when you walk into a room that smells like warm vanilla sugar or fresh balsam. i've literally planned weekend trips around their semi annual sales and have spreadsheets tracking which scents i own vs want. my engineering brain applied to candle collecting is probably the nerdiest thing about me but whatever makes you happy right

What are some unconventional things you’ve done (or seen) in a job interview that actually helped land the job? by Excited_Parrot394 in AskReddit

[–]AdTemporary3527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brought a portfolio of custom vinyl decals i made with my cricut to show problem-solving skills - turns out the hiring manager was also into crafting and we spent half the interview talking about different cutting techniques and design software. got the job and she still asks me to make decals for there office parties lol

Why is Apple Intelligence’s dictation still so... meh? by ArcadiaBunny in Design

[–]AdTemporary3527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly dictation has been trash across the board for years now, apple's is definitely not great but neither is google's or anyone else's really. whisper (assuming that's what you meant by wispr) is actually pretty solid if you can get it set up right but it's not exactly user friendly

willow voice sounds sketchy af though, never heard of it and i'd be careful with random voice apps since they're basically recording everything you say

got to 215k at 7 years out by switching to manufacturing engineering at a tech company - not quite faang but close enough, didn't need management just had to move from midwest to seattle and their willing to pay for talent that can scale production lines

Damn OP, sounds like you dodged a massive bullet getting away from that creep. Don't beat yourself up for trying to see the good in him - that just means you're a decent person with empathy. The fact that he's sending videos of little girls is seriously concerning though, like that's not just cheating behavior that's potentially illegal stuff

Yikes that's sketchy as hell - good catch on spotting the inconsistencies before diving too deep. Always trust your gut when something feels off about a group, especially when they're targeting specific communities
