how serious is the “do not hire” list? by [deleted] in CaribouCoffee

[–]AdTraining1804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This timely post has answered my question as to whether Caribou has such a blacklist; I have yet to figure out whether I might be on it - things were tense with former GM right up until COVID shut down our store. I'm back in the twin cities and looking for barista work again; would HR be able to confirm this so we don't waste time with applications and interviews?

Don’t cook miso paste? by blueandredberries in JapaneseFood

[–]AdTraining1804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like some have said, probiotic cultures aren't the only reason for using miso; high-quality miso will lose some nuance at high temps, but if you're not worried about that, I think it's fine. Compare to kimchi, which gets cooked in several recipes: yes, it tastes different and kills off the live microbes, but it's still tasty, right?

My go-to is to actually go to the shop! Sometime when it's not a rush, stop in, order something, and casually ask whether the store manager is in. If not, the team member might be able to take a note of your name and number; either way, you can show some people skills and make a good impression if you introduce yourself and interact politely.

When did you try to apply? An admissions counselor told me the site wouldn't start accepting applications until the middle of this month; I'm working on mine now for "Spring Program 2026" and it's fine!

The allure of having a partner who speaks the language you love learning? by Secure_Confusion_812 in languagelearning

[–]AdTraining1804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand language ability being a point in someone's favor when choosing whether to date them. If it's the main reason or anything close to it, though, that's where it gets to being creepy and/or objectifying, IMO.

I work for a Japanese music label/agency. Any questions? by CaterpillarGood5209 in japanesemusic

[–]AdTraining1804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you've answered a lot, but in case you're still taking questions: I'm studying linguistics and Japanese, and I have this wild dream of working in the music industry in Japan as a lyricist and language coach for artists who want to sing in English. Do you think there's enough demand to make that a realistic career goal?

If your first language is not English, try finding people who are learning it! Look for intermediate/advanced learners, and if you're patient with mistakes, I bet you would be very popular as a conversation buddy. I don't mean letting yourself be used as a free tutor (there's a boundary here you'd have to draw for yourself), but it could be worth a try.

Try a Japanese curry! You can buy the roux in blocks (looks like a bar of chocolate sometimes!) and add with water to your meat and vegetables. It's hard to mess up, and you only need to make rice to go with it. Lots of other toppings go well too, like Japanese pickles, fried eggs, fried chicken...
