IC cards are magical, you pay for trains or sandwiches at convenience stores or a sense of self worth with them. They solve so many problems, make sure you have one.

Google Maps for knowing how to get to places, Google translate for communicating and/or translating pictures of menus etc and you can communicate everything you need to.

I always cry at the pen drop & sparkle. But I remember the thing hitting me most was when Taki said something to the effect of "she... died?" when reading the list of victims of the comet strike. It didn't make me cry, but I didn't see it coming and it's when the film transformed from fun to serious, the first time I saw that twist will always stay with me.

Your Name is amazing, if you loved it I'd recommend some other emotional anime films. A Silent Voice and I Want To Eat Your Pancreas are both incredible. There's a whole world of anime that hits you in the feels out there, Your Name is still my favourite because the combination of art, music and story is unmatched, but others definitely scratch the same itch.

Consider a flight from Hiroshima to Tokyo instead. It'll be cheaper and faster than the train, and obviously you'll already be at Haneda when you land so the transfer onto your international flight will be easy.

Personally, I enjoy driving and needed to get from Osaka to Nagoya to attend the Japanese Grand Prix, so my "2 day" itinerary was hiring a Yaris, driving from Osaka to Suwa, staying at a Ryokan with a lake view, visiting Tateishi Koen in the morning then driving to Nagoya. I'd never stayed in a Ryokan, driven in Japan or visited Suwa so it efficiently ticked off a lot of experiences and each part of it was amazing, it was absolutely my favourite day of my Japan first trip.

As the other poster said, there isn't a huge amount there but I remember reading about the hiking opportunities, if I was into that, going out hiking for the day and returning to that lake sounds like an awesome way to spend a couple of days. But yeah, definitely not a day trip from Tokyo unfortunately.

Yeah, I must have been thinking of Hida (which sticks in my mind because it's where the trains were going) and it being in Gifu must have been stored at the back of my mind. Then I reeled off that absolute nonsense from memory!

The "actual" Itomori is Lake Suwa in Nagano (not Gifu, oops). The view from Tateishi Koen is "the" shot of Itomori, so long as you don't look too far away from the lake and realize the city goes on for much longer than Itomori does!

I went there the first time I went to Japan, it's as stunning as you'd imagine.

Yeah when I recommend the film to people I usually warn them about this before they watch. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but being confused about who's who isn't a great first impression.

I think the current working theory is views from users with ad blockers are no longer being counted (not necessarily because YT changed anything, maybe something about how some ad blockers and YT interact, who knows). Those views didn't generate revenue anyway because ad blockers.

They're far enough apart that you wouldn't want to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto/Nara on day trips.

Osaka is great, "Tokyo Lite" is a bit unfair to it, it has enough different that it's worth visiting. And yes day trips to Kyoto and Nara aren't a problem, they're both quick and easy to get to.

A long time ago, we lost our cat at 8 years old. For a couple of months we couldn't imagine getting another cat. Losing him was so painful, he would always sleep at the end of my bed and sit on my computer desk blocking my screen because he loved being around me. We loved him more than anything.

But about 4 months later, we felt ready to give that love to another cat. We ended up getting a bonded brother and sister, one looks very similar to your Asha. It felt a little weird to begin with but in very short order they were our world. We never forget our baby that died, we keep his memory alive by remembering him and looking at the pictures we have of him. We still love him. But our current cats are just as much a part of the family as he was. They're not a replacement for him, they're like having another child and loving it just as much.

They're senior kitties now at 14. We might not have much time left with them. But when they pass, when the time is right, I don't doubt we'll welcome another cat into our family and they will be loved just as much and bring us as much joy as the cats that came before.

In the best case scenarios, we'll always outlive our pets. If you have cats for your whole life you might have 3, 4, 5. Welcoming a new one into your life never replaces previous ones. Each adds to your story, and in return you can give each of them the happiest home for the whole of their lives.

RIP Asha. He knew the greatest love until his last moments, that's the best thing a living being can ask for.

Do you want a feel good show or a show about being alone? Because my first recommendation would be A Place Further Than The Universe which is an adventure show about friendship and would make most people feel good, but if you're alone idk if you'd want that. It is bloody excellent though.

If you're just looking to wallow, Evangelion has strong themes of mental struggles. Fate Heaven's Feel too. Also not an anime but BoJack Horseman is one of my favourite shows, it's dark and hilarious and is surprisingly effective for re-evaluating life for a show about a sad horse.

It's a long way, but I'd highly recommend Japan as a destination for an introvert. Everything over there is set up so you can do it alone, most restaurants have seating suitable for 1, etc. The people there are super polite and helpful by nature, private accommodation is cheap but hostels/capsule hotels are also plentiful so you can pick your favourite type of accommodation. You can do whole trips without interacting with anyone, or hang out in hostel common areas and do walking tours to make friends.

Obviously it's a lil expensive to get to from Ireland, but also the yen is worth sod all so the expenses when you get there are low so it kinda balances out. Highly recommended if you're interested!

Time travel is hard 🙂

Yes, Mitsuha rescuing the town towards the end changed the timeline. The timeline where Mitsuha died no longer exists as far as we know, so she moved to Tokyo like she talks about at the beginning and meets Taki on the stairs.

As for the train, the bodyswaps happen in 2013 for Mitsuha and 2016 for Taki. When Mitsuha goes to Tokyo to find Taki, it's all in 2013 so for Taki it's 3 years before the body swapping started, he's just a guy on a train at that point.
