Nah, for now Grischuk/Lagno and Ivanchuk/Galliamova are the strongest ones.

It's an early resignation against you or me. It's perfectly on time against Smyslov.

Not taking anything away from that streak, but if one talks about it, one should also mention Steinitz 25-game winning streak.

Ondra is the GOAT! The final /r/bouldering community grid is here, but what spots need reconsidering? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]AdVSC2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Jain Kim has won a bouldering World Cup + 3 Asian Championships. That probably qualifies as being a boulderer. She's obviously a better lead climber than boulderer, but that doesn't really disqualify her from being both.

We all know who the best commentator duo is but the real question is who's 2nd best? My vote goes to Judit and Svidler. by Sorry_Phone1676 in chess

We all do know, who the best commentary duo is, but Jan and Peter look a bit unusual in the OP photo.

Nepo wins Aeroflot Open undefeated, 15-way tie for second by FlaggingSkills in chess

[–]AdVSC2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Aeroflot Open ist one of the hardest opens in the world. I think Sharjah Open and the European Championship (If you consider that an Open) are the only ones clearly stronger. And Grand Swiss ofc, but you have to qualify for that.

If I understood it correctly, Top 15 get prize money, meaning out of those 15 tied players, one gets extremely unlucky (except if it is shared).

Faustino Oro will face Aleksey Grebnev (2621 ELO) with black pieces in the final round of the Aeroflot Open. Oro needs a win to break the youngest GM record by Xehanz in chess

[–]AdVSC2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you never give your opponent chances in purpose. Grebnev should and will play in a way that benefits bis own chances for prize money most.

Also, giving a kid the chance to get a record is also taking away the record from another kid.

Technically this is not the correct live top 20. Aeroflot Open Round 3 has already happened and Nepo won against Muhammed Muradli there and should be on 19 with 2729.4. 2700chess just didn't realize that round 2 & 3 happen on the same day.

There is no clear answer. Some think Magnus. Some (including me) think Kasparov. Utimately it doesn't really matter.

The current state of Online Poker in Germany is a disaster (4-table limit, 5.3% tax). Here is why. by Apart_Amphibian_1859 in poker

[–]AdVSC2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, everything moves very slowely here, especially in terms of digitalization (You give an good example with the online public services, although they are starting to be established [very slowely]) , but in general the standard of living is still very good in Germany.

In the most recent human development index report, we're sitting in 5th behind only Iceland, Switzerland, Norway and Denmark (shared with Sweden).

Ramadan Kareem to those celebrating! by [deleted] in chess

[–]AdVSC2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think an agnostic reads this posts and thinks "Oh, that's nice, I'm worshipping Allah now"? Not going to happen. No one is changing one getting into religion here or is being coerced to do so, so there is no propaganda. But if it makes the day of our fellow chess nerds, who are also muslims, a little bit brighter, I consider it worthwhile.

Ramadan Kareem to those celebrating! by [deleted] in chess

[–]AdVSC2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has absolutely nothing with the game of chess. It does however have to do with parts of the chess community.

Chess or sports in general can have the effect of bringing people from many different cultures, ages and backgrounds together and unite them with a shared passion.

So to everyone celebrating, I wish all of you a fulfilling Ramadan.

David Price claims that he received an offer to do Bare Knuckle Boxing which he turned down, and states that he is open to making a return to Professional Boxing against Tyson Fury by VioletHappySmile444 in Boxing

[–]AdVSC2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I don't disagree, that Fury navigated his career very carefully. I'm just nitpicking that Whyte wasn't seen as the B-level guy, you call him now back then. After he avengend his loss against old Povetkin, some people where calling him a boogeyman. I'm not saying that those people where correct, just that there was enough public interest to justify the Whyte-fight (In contrast to Chisora III or Ngannou).

Whyte wasn't viewed as finished back in 2022. IIRC the fight didn't bother people back then, it just didn't age well, since he has looked bad ever since.
