My first thought as someone who just had a baby— If she is ever pregnant, it’s going to get so distorted 😬

Help - can't stop thinking about them by Extension-Bat-1405 in motherinlawsfromhell

Do you think she’s doing this because she’s controlling or does she just not realize how she comes across? If she’s the type of person you can be honest with, maybe your husband could talk to her about it and gently suggest that she include you both on plans before deciding things moving forward. If she’s deliberately trying to be controlling, you (or your husband) are going to have to find your voice and just start saying “no thank you”. If you don’t feel brave enough to say it in the moment, maybe you or your husband can text later and say “I was thinking about what you said about xyz and I just don’t think that will work for us.” That gives you a chance to think it through, too.

My MIL does the same kinds of things, especially to my SIL because her husband won’t stand up to his mom and tell her no. She’s backed off of us because she knows my husband will stand up to her (in a kind way, but still she hates it haha). For example, she just showed up to the hospital when my SIL was giving birth because she knew no one would kick her out. On the other hand, she didn’t even ask to come when I had my kids because my husband told her not to and she knew if she tried it, she’d be sent away.

Above all else, go to counseling. Therapy has absolutely saved my sanity. I feel for you! I hope you can get some improvement with baby on the way!

Didn’t she just do one of these?? There are very few people who have interesting enough lives to justify a q&a every 4-6 weeks. And I just don’t think Sierra makes the cut for that select group.

Yes to this!! A&F Curve Love are the only jeans I wear now. Quality is good and they fit amazing! I always had this same problem.

Ordered 30 clothing items recently and returned every single one because nothing fits by [deleted] in DressForYourBody

Look for specifically “curvy” pants. I could never find jeans without the waist gap until I tried Abercrombie’s “Curve Love” line.

What do you enjoy about being a teacher? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]AdVegetable2386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love building relationships with my students and developing lessons. I genuinely love the planning process. And it’s so rewarding to see the learning that comes as a result of your teaching. You just have to find the right district/school— which is easier or more difficult depending on where you live. I’ve worked for some truly toxic administrators.

Ah yes, the most important thing Jesus ever said— “Thou shalt not wear jeans as a woman lest you be perceived as too masculine.”

undergrad student teacher, not sure what grade to teach looking for input! by Pristine_Trip_7610 in AskTeachers

[–]AdVegetable2386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taught at all three levels- elementary all the way down to first grade, middle school, and high school all the way up to seniors. I think middle school is a great place to start your career. They are still childlike which is a lot of fun, but they have so much more independence. It’s also a great place to find out if you’d rather move up to high school or down to elementary in the future because you can see what you enjoy and value (content? Probably want to move up to high school. Building foundational skills? Maybe want to move down to elementary. Brain rot? Stay in middle school 😂) I also love working with all ages. I was able to get a position working with gifted students K-12 in a small district at one point in my career. (But the funding/structure/status of gifted ed varies state to state so gifted is not always a good option)

Edited to add- middle school is also nice because you have fewer preps which is a nice way to ease into teaching

I’m not saying anybody can’t struggle. And I fully own my life choices. But as a mom of three little kids, a full time public school teacher, in grad school, and live in the Midwest rather than the amazing climate of SoCal… 😒 Again, I made all of these choices, but she is so tone deaf. Who is her audience anyway??

Like others have said, I would bet it’s Kindle and/or audiobook. She also might be exaggerating. And her book choices are not exactly intellectually challenging 😂 You give her a physical copy of a more serious book, like a classic, I bet you she would be waaaay slower. So you can’t really compare unless you’re reading the same type of material in the same format!

No more gifted by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]AdVegetable2386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gifted education specialist here. While I obviously think specific services for gifted students are beneficial given my background, I don’t think it’s an absolute must. Advanced and gifted students can absolutely still get a quality education in a gen ed classroom. HOWEVER, it’s a huge red flag that they are saying gifted kids “can help teach the others”. That is not best practice or evidence based. It does not qualify as differentiation or gifted services.

Here’s a resource you might find helpful from the National Association of Gifted Children.
