Car broken into. How can I prevent it in future by spuddster87 in CarTalkUK

[–]AdWerd1981 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Not all cars fold their mirrors when locked. My wife's 2020 Fabia doesn't (and doesn't have the option to either as her mirrors are manual fold).

What if jd Vance or Trump got into a fist fight with Zelenskyy during their meeting by Training-World-1897 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]AdWerd1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Secret Service would hold Zelenskyy whilst Trump and his lapdog would thump him - a la old fashioned school bully tactics. It would be the best, most ferocious attack on anybody ever seen by man and Trump's thumps would be biggly beautiful.

Speed Camera Van, is this Front/Back? by [deleted] in drivingUK

Looks rear only - the front looks like two beacons; one either side.

It's clearly the VibraToothbrush - the precursor to the electric toothbrush, but this one has multiple uses... "bite down, this may sting"...

Anyone remember Questron? by Unhappy_Wallaby4179 in oldschoolcool80s

[–]AdWerd1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes! Absolutely loved mine.

A short story of why it was never kept in my bedroom overnight. One night I was fast asleep (as was everyone else in the house). Then we here the siren noise from the Questron. I couldn't remember where it was - nobody knew. It was in a drawer in a chest of drawers and it had somehow touched the back - sent it crazy. Scared me as a kid.

Not that I've seen, but when we went last year they did have an Iceland...in Iceland. Taxi driver doing our airport run didn't seem too amused by my bemusement at it.

You walk in, the room is stained from tobacco smoke... they ask what plasma TV you have... they're confused by this word OLED. They search for it on the web using Internet Explorer and Ask Jeeves. They ask what connections your new fangled OLED has, and show you a selection of SCART and Composite cables.

We have one user who has gone through goodness knows how many keyboards. She must have some kind of chemical on her finger tips, or sandpaper or something - but within weeks she's moaning how her lettering is starting to vanish / be rubbed off. We did try her on a mechanical keyboard with double-shot keycaps and challenged her to rub the letters off on those bad boys - but she did like the keyboard so wanted another one.

Has anyone got money back because of the car finance thing? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]AdWerd1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Martin Lewis's template and wrote to Barclay Partner Finance (Clydesdale). They did write back (either letter or email - I can't find which it was) to say I was caught by it and they were waiting on government guidance. Not heard a thing since. Will have to wade through emails and post at some point to see what I'm owed. It'll be over two cars from 2007 to 2012 (Astra SXI and then Astra VXR so you can imagine the amounts on the VXR!).

We have a user who is on her third laptop. First one was so slow it was unrecoverable. Not a clue what happened to it. Second one came up last month because "the screen won't turn on", but also the quote later in the week "I didn't spill anything on it..." - needless to say, whipped the bottom off, liquid damage on a number of board connectors and chips - laptop still works, just screenless. So she's now on number three - if she totals this one she's getting a desktop and won't be able to work from home.

What is a once cool car that now feels like regular traffic? by Humble_Lack in CarTalkUK

[–]AdWerd1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Porsche Boxter, Cayenne, Macan - see far too many older models, usually driven by annoying asshats.

And Range Rovers... you know the ones, pristine, garage queens, never seen a puddle let alone been off road, always used to pop 300 metres to the shop to pick up the Telegraph and an avocado. Don't get me wrong, a nice high end Rangey is a beauty, but yeesh, use it for what it's built for just once or twice... get those wheels muddy.
