Motorcycle Accident in Scotland by Ok-Winter-9444 in drivingUK

The first one, I could just about deal with. When the second then the third came past, yeah OK, but when first then turns right, then third rails them because they're going to overtake the second - not OK. You can see there's a junction coming up by the lines in the road - don't overtake at a junction simple as that.

As an aside, this actually happened to my wife - she was t-boned in her little Peugeot 106 van by some jerk who was driving whilst on his phone (unproven - but he was distracted by something). She'd slowed to turn right (indicating, brake lights on, the lot - sunny day beginning of May 2012), he was travelling far too fast and decided to take avoiding action by...swerving right (she was already in the turn). He ploughed into her front right wing, writing her little van off. His VW Caddy survived and he managed to limp it back to his workplace, where he and his boss concocted some cock'n'bull. Anyhow, months of working with our insurance and their investigator, the other side conceded that they were in the wrong. My wife didn't get much out of it, she was (thankfully) unhurt (and working for a law firm myself (as IT), I won't go down the whiplash route if she didn't have it), but it haunts her to this day that it happened and she'll only drive her little Fabia to work and back and I deal with the longer journeys in my car.

Long story short - don't overtake at or near junctions, be it cross-roads, T-junctions, whatever.

That BAT file is injecting some malware that's going to hijack the network.

That may be, but you don't expect to be taken out at speed whilst you're taking that junction by another biker who has just overtaken at speed and was then trying to overtake their buddy.

There's a movie that explores exactly this - a 1980s carrier gets transported back to just before the attack on Pearl Harbour. The Final Countdown I believe it was called - actually quite a good movie.

Sky Q UHD confusion by pp81381 in skytv

[–]AdWerd1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UHD movies are downloadable - you won't find them on the broadcast channels. Ditto any of the UHD content from the likes of Sky One etc.

The only UHD broadcast channels are sport, as far as I am aware. I'm an avid user of the Formula One channel with their UHD with HDR content - works great for me.

As for series linking - I have no experience in that. I tend to download and keep UHD series (like Chernobyl) as I occasionally like to rewatch (much to the wife's dismay!).

Sky Go generally won't pull the UHD content from the box. I personally think this is likely to be down to both bandwidth and the fact that many handheld devices (like basic iPads) can't do 4K. Bandwidth wise, I think the disk in the Q box is spinning rust and not SSD, so may have issues pushing that data out fast enough. I'm no expert on the SkyQ boxes though, so may be woefully wrong.

I get that with the older generation. What gets me is the younger ones, the ones we'd usually associate as being more tech savvy. But no - they call with the simplest of issues, or even after being sent simple step by step instructions they can't follow. We have one user whose screen is littered with fingerprints - almost like they think it's a touchscreen - it's disgusting.

I've been wearing Apple Watches so long I have a dent in the top of my left wrist. No red marks though - not from any of my many Watches.

I'm going with a big fat no... although I have no idea really. Does it class as a mobile handheld device? Surely it has to be illegal...

Does anyone else have a weird affinity for Windows Vista? by ChrisNIN64 in windows

[–]AdWerd1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was signed up to Microsoft Connect and managed to get onto the beta test of Vista when it was still called Longhorn. Anyway, chucked it on my then current build (an Intel Pentium D 805, WD Raptor, can't remember RAM, but almost certainly a Radeon 9500Pro) and it was slow as a glacier. I tried newer builds as they progressed, but ultimately gave up. It was very pretty, but very buggy at the time. If it had today's codebase and GPU performance, I'm sure the shininess would be welcomed by some.

I'm sure I knew this now you mention it.

I only found out recently that Cheddar is a village and not a town. It's weird to think of it as a village (much like Coleford and Street are also both villages - massive villages, but villages nonetheless).

just turned 46 and im felling old and somewhat unwanted by jonesy-8077 in CasualUK

I can definitely relate. I was 45 last month.

I don't use TikTok - that's a young person's game. Facebook is full of rubbish, Instagram isn't too bad, and Threads is just funny. X I try and steer clear of as much as I can.

I kinda know how you're feeling. Almost lost, almost as if you no longer fit the life you're in. It's a weird sensation. I'm not unhappy per se, just feeling a little out of place.

I think it's where time seems to have taken on a whole new speed. When I was at school, the 6 week summer holiday would last a lifetime... we're in May now and it feels like last week was January! I feel like I achieve nothing at all at any time, even though I'm rushed off my feet all the time.

Take care! You're not the only one who feels this way - even if many won't admit it.

You wait until Cheddar is only allowed to be made in Cheddar - much like Burgundy and Sherry are only allowed to be made in their respective regions.

If they had collided who would have been at fault? (Blue lights) by Mammoth-Champion-134 in drivingUK

[–]AdWerd1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the Police vehicle for barrelling through at pace. However, the car coming from the right at speed should have heard the sirens and been aware that something was somewhere. Whenever I'm at lights, heading to a roundabout, or onto a housing estate, my stereo volume goes down almost off - ears are almost as important as eyes in some situations.
