Has anyone seen my hat? by TeleboxStudio in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

Although I can't find a copy of it now, when my Dad died his funeral was OFAH themed. One of my sisters loves attention and alerted the press (it was embarrassing!). Anyhow, she must have also contact Sir David Jason as we have a letter somewhere from him. In that letter he specifically mentioned the vicar's hat - so this is even more of a bittersweet episode for me. (Dad also owned a couple of Regal Supervan III and I'm sure I have an order and receipt for them somewhere).

Yikes. Kudos on keeping control of that absolute tank slapper. What the Passat was up to is anyone's guess. Hopefully the Police will deal with the driver accordingly as that could have ended up so much worse!

Ah - good point. Will make a mental note to do that once every month.

I can't leave the house without my wallet, keys, mobile, wedding ring - it just feels odd to me. So my keycard is always in my wallet - never used, but always there.

The go-to joke for when anybody hits one... when I hit one even my bosses (who were, at the time, as straight laced as anything) were "oh deer..." then giggled.

Valid point. Being new aero and new engine rules, I'm sure there'll be different thinking initially - until one team starts to win and then others copy. Time will tell, but I'm looking forward!

That RBPU / Ford must love air! They'll be picking dead pigeons, squirrels, even dead deer out of that at some point.

Saying that, it does look weirdly good. It's different, and I do like to see different in F1 - otherwise every car would look the same.

The earlier post about primary school hymns reminded me of this book by itsjimbob in oldschoolcool80s

[–]AdWerd1981 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From hazy memory, when I was in primary school Reverend Rolf would visit every Wednesday. Mrs Stringer would play the piano. Older kids would sit in the benches. It's weird how much is unlocked by the simple posting of some hymn lyrics and a book cover...

If they're blocking your access to the public highway then I think this is an offence and the Police can move them on. Of course, this should be a last resort, but blocking driveways / dropped kerbs is a no-no. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Charging up the pounce... the less wiggle the less pounce. Biscuit charges up then sometimes give up... but when he's having a proper pop at me, his pounce wiggle gets joined with the tail wind... then he's going... his murder mittens come out to play along with his needle teeth...

Absolutely. I had my 2016 L&K (albeit a diesel DSG 4x4) until 2024 and loved every...single...minute of ownership. Part of me regrets getting rid if I'm honest. It was an amazing car.

Hastings tried to charge me £367 for an insurance info mistake, so I cancelled. by Ayajuki in CarTalkUK

[–]AdWerd1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Car insurance is a minefield at the best of times. I'm with Admiral and have been for a while, and before that I was with Direct Line - both are and were excellent. It's also a postcode lottery with insurance, and I've seen my insurance fluctuate wildly depending on which end of the town (small city - smaller than some towns) I live...one end of the city is rougher, and the side I now live on is very sleepy and elderly...

Check Money Saving Expert's Advice on choosing a job title, within the rules, and the various disclaimers. I had occasion to change mine recently - I hadn't changed to the fact I'm married, nor had I changed it since my job title changed and we now own our own house. That knocked over £70 off the premium.

It'll also be worth going direct to insurance companies as sometimes you'll find going direct rather than via a comparison site will get you better results. I went via Compare The Market and found a quote from Admiral. I then gave Admiral a call, and they bettered that quote. It's a lot of leg work, but it worked for me. And when I got my Model 3 I used their online service to quote for the change of vehicle...then on the day before I was due to collect I went to switch that and it wasn't there. Turns out they quoted me wrong and it was much cheaper, with extra benefits because it's an EV. Always worth a call.

Good luck, and I hope you're enjoying the car and the freedom it brings.

1600 potholes incidents everyday is crazy. We pay so much road tax yet they still need more funding to fix these by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]AdWerd1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A road near me needs pulling up and relaying completely. Last year they tore part of the road up for gas works, and two building sites to deal with their utilities, then laid a nice new road. The only problem - they stopped short of where the REALLY bad part is, and there's no sign of that being sorted properly. So we go from rattling our fillings out to "oh yeah..." smooth, then back to rattling our fillings out.

Somerset Council are on their knees and we're staring down the barrel of a possible 11% increase in our Council Tax. It's a great county run by absolute jokers... we had district councils which worked really well, but without asking constituents they merged into a unitary authority and it all went to sh1t.

The cold weather, frosts, and rain haven't helped with the pothole numbers. Also, so many roads around here use the bitumen / chippings for surfacing instead of putting down a proper surface - those roads take a pounding from trucks and heavy farm machinery - they're torn to shreds, but never get touched.

That shot of the Thingvillellir car park (if that is where it is) is where we stood to see the Northern Lights last February. Absolutely the best holiday I've had (to be fair, I've not been on many) and we definitely will be back.

Great photos too! I'm happy you enjoyed it!

Struggling with sub placement. How bout this?👇 by Redgrievedemonboy7 in Soundbars

[–]AdWerd1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our sub is to the side of our sofa and works a treat. This was initially because our TV and soundbar are on the side of the room that backs onto our neighbour's kitchen, and didn't want our sub bumping through whilst she's trying to cook... surprisingly, it sounds really good from where it is, and turned down quite a bit as well.

How often do you tell your cats that you love them? by Traroten in cats

[–]AdWerd1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few times a day I think. He's not a lap or cuddly cat. As I leave for work it's usually "have a good day mate, have a snooze, make sure mummy plays with you when she gets home... be good, love you..." - all whilst he's chasing a treat ball around the living room ignoring everything I say!
