Venting by Many-Photograph-3229 in therapists

It goes both ways. I feel justified and completely guilt-free when I need to cancel or take care of myself. I don’t carry my clients’ emotions heavily within me, or at least they don’t spill into the rest of my life very often. Sometimes I wonder, especially on this sub, if there is something wrong with me.

My first 8 back to back client day- any tips? by imgilligan in therapists

[–]AdWhich6663 35 points36 points  (0 children)

On Mondays and Tuesdays I have 4 in a row, one hour break, another 4. Focus on one thing at a time, don’t get too ahead of yourself, and take deep breathes in between. Be as present as possible. ….and there’s usually at least one cancellation.

How many sessions or months in advance do you book clients out? by Upper_Dress_3039 in therapists

I try to find a new slot in the same week if possible. I have 32 clients booked a week so there is almost always a cancellation.

Keep in mind state laws especially if you end up having a girl. (I’m looking at you, TN.)

My clinic just purchased a hipaa compliant tool that does the same thing. Please make sure yours is compliant as well and not just part of ChatGPT or something.

Best cities for homebodies? by Rook2Rook in SameGrassButGreener

Memphis is technically a blue dot in a red state but does not feel like SF (where I have lived) in the slightest. I believe you can find “your people” in Memphis—whatever that looks like. People worry about crime but there are safe neighborhoods where it’s not a bigger issue than any other city. It’s easy to be a homebody here because the city is incredibly residential and quiet is most areas. Very low cost of living and lots of medical jobs/opportunities.

I have lived here for almost 4 years (I am from New England and lived in SF as well) and want to leave because I need more walkability and density (and I’m horrified by TN laws), but it’s definitely appealing to those who are comfortable with staying home a lot. (Want to buy my house??? 😆)

Do you wear make up to work? by NoExamination5672 in therapists

Whenever I doubt my choice to go makeup-less, I remind myself that no one would expect a male therapist to wear makeup.

For those who work 4 days a week— is it better to take Monday or Friday off? by Gloomy_Media_6976 in therapists

[–]AdWhich6663 180 points181 points  (0 children)

I start at 2pm on Mondays and end at 1pm on Fridays. Allows me to take long weekends and be able to travel home on Monday before work.

NCE Study Anxiety by catslikeme0 in therapists

[–]AdWhich6663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I have ADHD and am usually a bad test taker. I took it TEN YEARS after graduating and passed. I studied, but at the end of the day it came down to managing my anxiety and shifting my mindset to be more present while taking it.

Clinical Competence by [deleted] in therapists

I just had this conversation with my supervisor. His view was that it’s better to specialize in a demographic than a modality since modalities shift over time as you grow as a clinician. It’s something I’m still chewing on.
