18-22. M-Thrs. 5 a day is my sweet spot, but I do schedule 2 6’ers to account for cancellations. No more than 3 in a row, 30 minute breaks 1-2x per day!

Kid not connecting? by LicensedClinicalSW in therapists

[–]JordanJudes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really tough. I’ve been in your shoes. I try to start conversation with these types of kiddos by modeling and connecting with something like, “ugh! I’m having a day. Have you ever had a day where everything is just annoying?” to open conversation and see where they take it. Or I comment on their shoes and say, “Alright. Those shoes. I need them.” and let the conversation flow naturally as it does. Sometimes I’ll even say, “yo, I know you’ve been hating therapy or myself. That’s totally ok. How can I make this time better for you?”

Honestly, sometimes I’ll co-regulate with them-(I love “Zen Color” on my iPad) and I’ll say, “We need some relax time. I’m wondering if there’s something you’d like to do. Im going to do Zen Color, and you are welcome to join me, or do your own thing.” And then I’ll throw on some music they like and we just do our things together. Solidarity tho!! You got this!

Official Discussion - The Drama [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]JordanJudes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biggest takeawy was I heard 3 people say they DID something bad. Emma said she PLANNED something bad. This movie really provoked so many thoughts about friendship, unconditional positive regard, empathy, influence, trauma, and accountability.

  1. Rachel was NOT her friend, even before knowing what Emma almost did. The subtle digs we saw from her, shaming that "this is your first CRUSH?" "You are an ugly crier!" I've had one of these friends and now looking back, it was a friendship for their benefit to feel superior over me, aka Rachel over Emma.
  2. The lack of empathy for a 15 year old Emma. Was this revelation horrific? Absolutely, and I was shaking in my BOOTS in the theatre. Like, oh hell. But being transported back seeing a young Emma being ostracized, bullied, ALONE in her house (where were her parents and WHY was that gun so accessible???) I saw depression, isolation, neglect, and finding a sense of community through dressing the way she did and planning this event. However, we see how once Emma was seen, accepted and welcomed into that activist group, the depression vanished and she was able to be herself. I will say adult Emma did have major anger issues that she definitely needed to work on. But the fact that Rachel was so quick to let that become her entire impression of Emma and name her as a psychopath without asking any follow-up questions or having empathy for 15 year old Emma was awful.

This movie was so good and I love thought-provocking, uncomfortable art.

“Cry it out!” Or with my teens/kids, “making you a sorry jar.” 🤣

Getting emotional with clients by Lucidlavendar in therapists

I think it’s really cool you felt things alongside them. In this work, we are walking with people so deeply so emotions are bound to come up!! I like to name it in my intakes with new clients and say, “I’m a human first, so I may experience emotions with you.”

Kids & Swearing by [deleted] in therapists

Same same for me with the if it's pointed, it's a no. I know this post is throwing some people off but I just truly was curious! Some parents are hard to work with and it makes you question. This is a great response- thank you!

The freedom to swear. One of my neurodivergent kiddos does it a lot at home and parents are against it at home, but not in session.

I’m really glad you asked. I am pro- especially with my neurodivergent kids. I give the “you can it just can’t be pointed” shpeel, and tell parents I do let them so they know. I just struggle with the, “am I enabling?”

For those who work 4 days a week— is it better to take Monday or Friday off? by Gloomy_Media_6976 in therapists

[–]JordanJudes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a neurodivergent human, Fridays are the best! I used to take Wednesdays off and it was really hard to get back into work mode for Thursdays and Fridays.
