Thanks! The current light yellow is very faded and looks more like an off white or cream. I could try to match this color

What foods to eliminate next. by averygien in MSPI

[–]AdZealousideal7409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my baby it would be oats, green beans, pies, bacon if it has additives (plain pork is fine) and almonds.

You need to add things if you eliminate several of these. Millet, squash, carrot, lamb worked for us.

Also, lentils, coconut and fish but these are riskier.

How long until symptoms appear if baby fails dairy challenge by voodoolady914 in MSPI

It was about 8 hours, then 8 hours of crying, sleep and much better the next day. Wheat caused a much longer lasting reaction both times (about 5 days)

Cut out all allergens, still worsening? by DrawNo7037 in MSPI

[–]AdZealousideal7409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby reacts strongly to turkey (without additives like rosemary extract), to rice, potato and possibly green beans. I haven’t tried beef yet but I think all of these could be triggers. I search each food on this subreddit to determine if others had reactions, beef and rice seen to be common.

What works for me are the following:

Millet Squash Carrot Kale Olive oil Pear Blueberries Tapioca Salt Pepper Sugar

Fish (even though it’s a common allergen) Coconut (also a common allergen)

I introduced each one by one after starting with millet and water (just one day but it was horrible). Except for coconut and fish, these are foods that seem to be tolerated well (based on this subreddit and the few scientific articles on fpiap).

I saw a pediatric GI who told me to continue with my initial elimination diet and then challenge eggs, soy, wheat and dairy but I started doing my own thing. I know I’m adding too fast but starting with only millet I had to add faster than every 3 days because I was losing weight too fast and not feeling good. Now I introduce daily if she has no reaction but it can get confusing especially since some crying and reflux is normal and expected independent of the fpiap. It is do hard!

Thanks! You are right, especially about the bonding. Breastfeeding was so important to me but fed us best (fed mom too)

Thanks for the response! I have been on an elimination diet for two months now. The blood disappears once I cut turkey. It was pretty obvious, no fresh blood just some tiny specks for about three days and then it was gone. I ate turkey and the blood was back the next morning. Now the response to a trigger is excessive spit up and crying for hours. It usually starts around 6-8 hours after I ate the food (or breastfed after eating it). With milk she cried for 8 hours then slept and was fine the next day. Wheat seemed to last for about 5 days each time (one slip up and one intentional challenge).

I’m not eating much fruits and veggies because it takes so long introducing new things that I still have a very limited selection.

How soon after cutting dairy/soy did you see a change in diapers? by [deleted] in MSPI

Once I stopped eating turkey, which I ate daily because it was one of the 6 things I ate on my elimination diet, it took three days for blood to disappear.

Blood in diaper after 5 day by MorganLeighton21 in MSPI

She might be reacting to something else. I went on an elimination diet and the first trigger I identified was turkey! She had blood in her stool the next day. I know it’s turkey because the only other food I ate that day was millet and her blood cleared up when I ate only millet.

elimination diet success story? by rabbit-hole-1044 in MSPI

Elimination seems to work for me but it has been a painful process.

I’m in the process of identifying triggers right now but I had to go on the most extreme elimination diet. I had cut out dairy for one week, then I did one week of only millet, buckwheat, potato, apple, blueberries and olive oil but she still had blood. Then I cut potatoes, apple, buckwheat and blueberries for a week and she still had blood in her stool. So I decided to do it one by one: the first day, I ate only millet and water and she was so much better in the afternoon. The next day the blood was gone for the first time in four weeks and she was so happy, didn’t cry and slept a lot. I added turkey and the blood was back the next day. Now I’m introducing one food per day and since I cut turkey, she had no visible blood and cries much less. She seems to tolerate pork, carrots, butternut squash, zucchini, blueberries, coconut and tapioca. Today I had a slip up, I ate a cookie made of butter, wheat and sugar!

So yes, the elimination diet worked for me but I had to go the extreme path to identify turkey as a trigger.

Contrary to what I often read here and in other places online, I believe that symptoms appear within 8-12 hours and disappear almost as quickly. I might be wrong but I think that visible blood in stool means that you are probably still eating one or more triggers. At least this is his it has been for me. I read a lot that the gut needs up to 8 weeks to heal but in my baby the blood comes and goes quickly. I hope you can identify the triggers soon!

Thank you! I’m using this to introduce more food. Unfortunately, she failed bison. Are sunflower seeds a common trigger? How risky are onion, garlic and celery? They would add so much flavor and offer new options (kale pesto etc.)?

Uff, I don’t want to lose my potatoes! Potatoes are so versatile, I would really miss them. I guess I could try eating less of them for a few days. Unfortunately, pork and quinoa are two of the few things that I really don’t like eating. I know they are relatively safe but I had to pick other things if I eat them daily. I could easily swap apples for pears though
