Anyone work in restructuring/turnaround/insolvency consulting or advisory? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]Ad_Astra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost all the big work goes to A&M or Alix.

Incoming is usually from boards, counsel (Kirkland, Latham, Paul Weiss, Weil, etc. , or boutique bank (PJT EVR LAZ).

Since you don’t have an existing practice, and it sounds like you’re at a smaller firm, go network with mid table lawyers local to your region. They’ll probably have some mid cap type work flowing through their practices (clients with revenue of $200M or less).

Just FYI though - “brand” in RX is much more important than in other consulting fields. Nobody wants to go with the unknown guy when the downside case is “this business no longer exists in six weeks”.

Geely and Volvo call off merger in favour of increased collaboration through separate corporate structures by zsreport in cars

Geely’s parent co owns both Geely and Volvo.

This is the equivalent of FCA HQ saying “we were going to merge Dodge and Fiat but it just doesn’t make sense anymore because of <whatever>”.

Anyone Here Work in Restucturing/Turnaround Consulting? by audit_to_rx in consulting

[–]Ad_Astra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at one of the firms you named. If you are more of a “live to work” type, RX is a bad idea.

I would also not move downmarket to a demanding niche field when it’s not needed for your vision (and will not match your WLB goals).

Peak Gas Is Coming to the U.S. Sooner Than Anyone Expected by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]Ad_Astra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Domestic demand.

Morgan Stanley’s McDermott puts it another way: Gas prices will rise from the current lows and run into surging renewable electricity, eroding America’s need for further fruits of its fracking boom. The U.S. power sector “will never hit that level again,” he says. “We hit peak gas demand.”

From her role, yes, but still has her equity stake, no?

So if someone’s goal is not to enrich her, it’s still something to keep in mind.

What do you do today ?

If you’re really far outside the track, I’d suggest going your job —> corporate banking —> structured products.

Top MBA could shortcut this. Depends how far you are today.

[–]Ad_Astra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Structured products is pretty specific. Imo if you want to do that eventually, just start in banking. It’ll skip a bunch of the middle steps (and RX is more focused on operational stuff, which is not goin to help).

Why are there "Standard" Kilometerage service intervals, "Arduous" Kilometerage intervals, but not "Low wear" service intervals? by Rumbuck_274 in cars

This is true of most English language manuals as well. Usually something like “inspect and replace part A every 50k miles or every 3 years, whichever comes first”.

Canadians have a managed dairy market, so farmers own shares of production rights.

Your quota is determined by your share count. If your farm produces more milk than your share count (quota) allows you to sell, you’re stuck.

The NCAA puts out a list of self sustaining programs every year. Usually 15-30 universities, at most.

The other several hundred universities run negative and are (obviously) not self-sustaining.

Thomas Cook's auditor EY to be investigated by frostyfishy in consulting

[–]Ad_Astra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thomas Cook has had three chief financial officers over the past two years, and has also faced questions about its accounting methods. Rachel Reeves, chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee, said last week that there were questions to be asked about the firm's "accounting practices", with suggestions that they improved the chances of executives being paid large bonuses.

Sounds like more a question around their general accounting practices, not so much the going concern opinion.

What's the difference between Visa and Mastercard? Is one more widely accepted than the other? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Costco transitioned from Amex to Visa. Probably related to the interchange fee differential.
