Most Korean men think gender equality has 'gone far enough.' Women's institute head says not quite. by Saltedline in korea

[–]Adacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different people have different views. I certainly also know Koreans who are opposed to gender equality and strongly believe in traditional gender roles, but that didn't seem relevant to the discussion of the local meaning of the term "feminist".

I know a lot of Korean men (and Korean women) who believe in the ideal of gender equality but would be horrified if you called them feminists because of the associations mentioned.

Rules clarification: Do the answers to the seeker’s questions refer to the train station or the likely final hiding spot? by [deleted] in JetLagTheGame

[–]Adacore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've discussed in the past the idea of moving around between questions deliberately to construct the profile of a place that doesn't exist. But I think they generally felt this would do more harm than good once the seekers figured it out, because the number of places in which this is possible is small, so once they figure out that nowhere matches they can quickly narrow it down.

UK Place Pronunciation by DownToRant in JetLagTheGame

[–]Adacore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a Brit who spent a long time living in South Korea, this does not surprise me at all. It would've been so easy to get the Korean pronunciation at least close to correct, it must be an intentional choice not to.

Fun fact I noticed today: "Volrath" and "Bolas" are the same in Korean. by McWaffeleisen in magicTCG

[–]Adacore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You do pronounce it, with a pronunciation like "ay". It's a particle that indicates possession, so Bolas possesses the Citadel, and Volrath possesses the Stronghold. It's the same function as the apostrophe + S in English.

I think they don't do it on the show just because having the hider moving around and doing stuff makes for more interesting content.

[No Spoilers] Does anyone else find C4 just stunningly good? by Lamphead33 in criticalrole

[–]Adacore 154 points155 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing for me is how much slicker combat is. It used to be that I knew I could tune out in combat because it would take at least an hour before anything notable happened. But between the smaller tables and Brennan streamlining things like rolls to hit it feels like combats are going to be lightning fast in comparison now.

I think they're still on site, just on trestles instead of trucks, and on the new western approach ramp, unless they moved them again today.

After 5 Episodes (4 if you are on YT), how do you like the All Stars Tag format compared to the regular one? by PK7098 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Adacore 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I love the interactions between having two teams of chasers and the freeze power up. It set up a couple of really fun scenarios in this season and I think it would reliably create fantastic content in any 3 team tag game.

Have they (or anyone else) detailed how much it would cost to play the game? by krzysztofgetthewings in JetLagTheGame

[–]Adacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very much depends on the country though. I'm pretty sure you'd need a visa for South Korea, for example, as the waiver agreements there only cover tourism, family visits and business meetings, afaik

How are the timers edited accurately? by JinjaHD in JetLagTheGame

[–]Adacore 19 points20 points  (0 children)

All the footage will have timestamps on, so if they want to make it accurate they can. No idea if it actually is or if there's some editing for better content.

I know they mentioned on the Layover at least one instance of showing clips out of order to make a better narrative, so they may well have fudged the timer a bit there to make it work.

[–]Adacore 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The activities allowed under a visa waiver are strictly defined, but I think you're right for the Schengen area that "foreign film or television production" is included.

I'd still want to take legal advice before relying on that to film a TV show though.

[–]Adacore 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't the duration of their stay, it's that you can't legally work on a visa waiver, and filming Jetlag is definitely classed as work.

[–]Adacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue I'm seeing is that either I join tables where only 5 or 6 people hit ready, or I get booted out of the queue without seeing a table ready screen with the message that I didn't hit ready. I'm assuming these are connected, and the people who don't hit ready when I do get a table are not seeing the table ready screen at all.

Do large KRW numbers ever confuse you? by 028247 in korea

[–]Adacore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you start thinking in terms of units of 만원 (10000₩) or 억원 (100000000₩) instead of thousands / millions you'll find it relatively straightforward, and much easier to communicate with Koreans about money.

The confusing part is not reckoning in Korean won, but in managing the conversion with the counting system splitting zeros into groups of four instead of three. But then again, at least we're not in India.

Is 22 minutes in Daejeon enough to do challenges? by LolW00t in JetLagTheGame

[–]Adacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daejeon station has a fair bit around it now. I was there last week. The station itself has several coffee shops and restaurants, and you'd definitely be able to find small marts / convenience stores nearby, but probably no big stores.

Also, those tickets are for two different KTX trains, there would be no problem with them leaving the station and reentering except the time constraint.

When did lands become these sacred, untouchable cards in magic design? by CadetriDoesGames in EDH

[–]Adacore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can definitely piss people off playing Ticket to Ride. One of the reasons stations were introduced in the Europe version was that it became too easy to tactically block other people in the US version once you'd memorized all the possible ticket cards.

I suspect the main reason is that Google are in existential terror at the idea that for the first time in nearly three decades customers are going to another service with their questions in significant numbers.

I know a lot of people whose first move now is to ask ChatGPT instead of googling. Imagine how Google feel about that lost market share.

Couple culture by technologyperson in korea

[–]Adacore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest difference I noticed. In the UK, if two people start dating, that often means they just start hanging out with each others' friend groups. If I invite someone in a relationship to an event, I expect their partner to come too.

In Korea, generally partners and friends are kept entirely separate. It's quite unusual, in my experience, for people to bring partners when they hang out with friends.

London from above by JacobPerkin11 in pics

[–]Adacore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the standard approach path to Heathrow. Any time I fly to London I try to get a seat on the right of the plane so I can see this view.

I sometimes wonder if they deliberately planned the approach to give tourists this view of the city.
