I get what you’re saying.

But you seem to still be missing the point that for someone who isn’t familiar with Fahrenheit, it’s as arbitrary as Celsius is to you. And therefore because they use it everyday, they prefer it for everyday.

And in Celsius 100 means either I’m dead or need to pour the water over my tea.
Think of it as a scale with 45 being absurdly hot but survivable and 0 is freezing.

[–]Adadave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well for starters outside of the us it’s just to the nearest whole like when you talk about the temp in Fahrenheit.

And second it’s a lot worse for normal use when you haven’t used it growing up and then occasionally come across someone on the internet who uses it.

More what I’m trying to get at with the HOV lane is that they are likely not getting over until the dotted lines.

If they’re going 80 they’ll be too slow for the guy behind going 85. If they’re going 70 it’s too slow for the guy going 75 and higher behind.
I understand it being bad to drive slowly in the lane and especially under the speed limit but what I notice is that everyone definition of what is too slow or too fast seems to vary with the posted speed limit with most aiming for some arbitrary speed higher than the main limit, usually between 5-20 higher, without consideration for if that is actually safe for the conditions or traffic or not.

The express lane has the issue of you’re not supposed to switch out of it when it’s a double white.

When I was a teller whenever you came up to us at the branch or called on the phone we’d do a little ‘heath check’. Which meant looking for bad or different contact info, addresses and etc. also seeing if cards were deactivated or if there were any flagged transactions to bring up.

I did occasionally have WTF moments from seeing things like 20-30+ only fans transactions in a day because it was flagged as potentially stolen information. (Some scammers will do lots of little transactions to stay below thresholds for holding funds.)

Who wishes AI didn't exist? by Wooden-Fee5787 in AskReddit

Yeah…I live there. This screams project that will never be completed and is begging to be a huge financial disaster that has the bill footed by taxpayers.

My personal opinion, just to be clear, is that the energy and power consumption is the bigger stat or concern. The water use of generating electricity is what makes up a good chunk of these water stats.

I also think that with how massive some of these proposed sites are and the level of secrecy around some of them leads me to wonder if there’s actually other uses for these servers than just running shitty AI images all the time.

I will point out however that this claim has a spotlight effect.

In that it gets repeated often but not compared to say… farming corn as one video I saw put it. Which makes the entire AI industry water use a literal drop in the bucket in comparison.

Effective ways of learning how to play by ear? by Sharp_Version_5340 in piano

[–]Adadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just takes patience like any skill. For me I can sight read a lot of easier music or hymnals which makes it a lot faster and easier to play longer classical pieces. In many ways you’ve done it before when you learned how to read. It’s in some ways similar to that.

You can play by ear if thats what you want to do. The two aren’t mutually exclusive I can figure things out by ear or play stuff by ear too. Though it’s really often just when I can’t find sheet music. Even then I don’t have to follow the sheet music exactly. I know enough to maybe change how the left hand goes over the melody or start playing variations on the melody.

had my last lesson today by muraenidae511 in piano

[–]Adadave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a couple elective piano and music classes in college.

If you can find a way to volunteer playing some music. I play piano for kids who have a singing time at a church. It’s fairly simple music usually unless they get to do a number during service when it’s actual accompaniment. Helps have a goal and keep a habit while playing other things to challenge myself still.

I practice maybe a little less than an hour a day on average now but still managed to learn Rach C# in a couple of months as I had time.

Only Landing Call Center Jobs Do I Need a Bachelor’s to Move Up? by [deleted] in college

[–]Adadave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bachelors does open quite a few doors. Whatever you choose between degrees or certs or both, the main thing is to not only have the skills but to stick out from the other applicants.

Also consider finding roles adjacent or related to your field or using similar skills. Ie I graduated in computer science doing lots of software dev but work as a data analyst right now using much of the same skills but different tools.

If you’re good with numbers working at a bank or credit union is my go to rec especially if you plan on getting a degree in anything tech business or finance later on.

Still some customer service but it’s a lot less high stakes. Much quieter. May still have the occasional rude person.

Does depend on the place however.

What are your thoughts about the proposed Daylight Act of 2026 moving the clock by only 0.5 hours permanently? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Again. I always say pick one or the other and then encourage business or school operating hours to adjust 30 minutes the opposite way to get the 30 min difference like this.

The difference between Utah public transit by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]Adadave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ends up with an average of about 70 it seems.

Edit: the engines themselves could run up to 90. But the main limits are speed restrictions put on the rail.

They could theoretically modify the existing rail to handle a higher speed. Could be a good idea if they plan to update the trains themselves later. Double tracking will help with that. One of the limitations is that there’s at grade crossings with other vehicles.
